PS4 sells 1 million in UK

Nice news for Sony...

it may be coincidence but Xbox one deals are very aggressive in the Uk at present

you can get a Xbox One and Destiny for £308 at present

He probably thought the UK=Europe. Can't think of another explanation for those silly comments.

Judging by a recent thread in the off topic forum, there are quite a few people that think this.

I Love PS4 sale milestones threads, always have the best breakdowns. I wasn't on GAF in 2007 and 2008 I'll bet I missed a few classics back then

So is week 42 all the way up till last week? And this week will pretty much mean the start of increased consoles sales again in the run up to Xmas thanks to Destiny today.

Seemed a little slower selling this year so far but then again big releases were slow coming.

Surprised it remained 1.5:1 ratio with the XBone after all this time. Had a feeling the XBone may have reduced that since Titanfall and price drops/bundles but the fact it remains the same means MS have a lot more work to do in the UK. This Xmas is really key.

Edit: apparently it includes the Destiny bundles.

I expect sales to pick up for both xbox one and playstation 4 in 2015. It just feels that mosy of the heavy hitting titles are slated for that year.

MS must be disappointed by the Titanfall effect, they must have been banking on it driving sales until Christmas shopping.

Some great Xbox One deals in the UK at the moment, only today seen console with Halo and Destiny for £350 or console plus any game for £308

We have a special place for people who think that Europe is a country. It's the last place.
That...that's not real, is it? It must be a joke. Nobody's that uneducated.

Congrats to Sony on their million+ UK sales, I'm sure there's gonna be a lot more sold today.

What, fire sales already? XCube.

Holy shit how I laughed at the fact that they could see the new players were Xbox players. Cod generation.

Yeah, I thought that was very interesting. Not that it occurred, just that there are numbers - and that Sony is keeping track of said numbers - that correlate sufficiently cleanly enough that someone at Sony can make that statement. Alas, ahm998 has derailed the thread with a mostly innocuous statement.

So third-party tracking services should release their data to satisfy your specific curiosities?

------------------

Here's what I know

US - ~3.76M as of August 2nd, 2014
United Kingdom - 1M as of Sept. 9th?, 2014
Japan - ~0.678M as of August 31st, 2014
Germany - 540k as of June 31st, 2014
France - 2013 YTD = 240k
Italy - 210k as of June 26, 2014
Spain - 181k as of February 2014 [Soon to be 205k]
Poland - Nearing 100k as of September 2014
Portugal - 2013 YTD = 21k

Australia - PS4 surpasses XB1 sales
New Zealand - PS4 sales surpasses XB1 sales

So with all the information I have seen thus far I can account for brief windows of maybe a dozen regions. The information simply isn't there and no tracker is going to release it on their own accord. I don't really see why we should disbelieve the 10M announcement when you're never going to get a detailed breakdown of sales that account for all regions

There's also likely another 200k in France by the end of May, if we assume that the 2:1 ratio against XB1 was maintained in 2014. Which it likely has, if not increased.

edit: see here for how I got to that number

Soo, is there any chance Sony (and MS) will come out about two weeks from now to announce Destiny-related hardware sales bumps? Or is it silent running until November? They'll obviously have to announce 1-year numbers in November.

Or Sony cannot afford to lose investor/shareholder confidence at this point. Their credit rating is junk. If they lied about their numbers, goodluck getting any money from investors for future R&D. Not to mention a huge lawsuit from its shareholders, and a freefall in share prices.

Yeah the way things are going kaz is going to have to order off of the dollar menu when he is out for lunch. Times are tough.

If we look at the figures it's easy to see why. At midnight last night Destiny went on sale and this morning the PS4 shot through the one million sold mark in the UK. For Sony, Destiny is a system seller, with the £349 PS4 Destiny bundle the main attraction.

from the eurogamer interview. Very clearly sounds like they went through the 1m barrier as soon as they counted those Destiny day one preorders. Wonder if they've just rolled them all in or were literally counting actual sales?

Hopefully we get some percentages at the very least from Charttrack next week. I'm sure MS will be hoping for a decent percentage increase so they can at least mention Destiny again but I guess it'll depend on the PS4 increase whether they want to cause comparisons and then therefore put them in bad light for doing so.

I'd imagine they did not count pre-orders, unless everyone pre-ordered at midnight :p

That was not in quotes though.

Strange how quick we are to forget that the Wii was supply constrained for a good part of its first year. Sony has managed to resolve that in a much quicker fashiom.

It's really difficult to compare the two.

Not sure if epic troll bait or a sad commentary on the education system.
You can't troll here, so everything what you type is what you are.
Think about it, their hands actually move for typing and the words are coming out their mind.

Well they have 2 major exklusives with Sunset overdrive and HALO coming out this year.

I am sure this will narrow the gap (but of course not closing it)

I'm not sure old Halo games are going to shift significant units here. The game will sell well, but shift hardware?

SO is kinda weird, it looks like it could be fun, but outside GAF etc there doesn't seem to be a lot of hype behind it.

I won't call March/April "a much quicker fashiom" :D

Right before Destiny which will now boost the console considerably.

Looks like it will take Xbox One quite a while to sell 1 million in the UK

Metro.co.uk article.

"The Xbox One has sold only around 1.2 million consoles in the whole of Europe, compared to around 3.8 million for the PlayStation 4."

Oh wow. After destiny this could be 4x1...

Of which half of those for the XBone are UK. Ouch! To think there's almost as many PS4s sold in the UK as there are XBones in Europe.

That's supposition by the writer based on the timing of the announcement.
