PS4/Xbox One Sunday Retail Stock Check: December 15-25

Ps4s are there. Most stores just don't put them out on the floor. My Walmart has them all the time but the electronics guy says they keep them in the back so word doesn't get out and there is a mob.

That doesn't add up. "We have them, but we won't put them on the floor because too many people would buy them. Instead, we'll stick them in the back and only sell them if asked." That's a terrible way to run a store, and Walmart execs are some of the best in the business at running stores.

Went to Target yesterday during the 10% off + Saturday before Christmas madness and at 3:00 in the afternoon there were 7 Xboxes in various cases in the electronics aisles and 0 PS4s. Lots of every other system as well, just no PS4s.

Just checked 4 stores (Target, Wal-Mart, Meijer, GameStop). All of them had full cases of XB1s, but it's hard to tell how many they really had since only 4-6 will fit in a case due to the big boxes. No PS4s to be found except one at Wal-Mart.

Lots of PS3s, didn't see too many 360s, and a moderate amount of WiiUs. 3DS of all kinds everywhere.

Weird, I thought PS4s were going to have a massive shipment today? Or maybe they already sold out? Or are they holding it for Sunday

By the sounds of it, it looks like the demand for the PS4 is still sky high, while it appears that the Xbone has enough in stock to satisfy its hardcore base.

I'd probably call that bad news for Microsoft, since the Xbone has saw nowhere near the demand that the PS4 is experiencing. Expect the Xbone to nosedive in sales.

Though I don't plan on buying either yet, I've been keeping track for fun. In two Walmarts and two Targets In Salt Lake City and nearby Centerville, I've seen 16 XboxOnes and 0 PS4s. I thought I saw a lone PS4 on a Best Buy shelf, but it was a display box.

I realize how anecdotal all of this is, and it could be attributed to restocking times or supply issues, but at least from a consumer's perspective the XboxOne is not the "hot Christmas item."

Just what he told me when I asked. Says they have 40 in the back but only sell them on Sundays to get people in for the AD. And the only offer 10-12 for sale each Sunday. Offered to sell me one because I was in uniform. But they had none in the case so I tend to believe him. So either he was lying and they had none and he was going to look silly if I decided to purchase or he did have plenty in the back. Sure they will freely put them out once Christmas is over.

Plus you act as if Bestbuy hasn't been keeping supply off shelves till Sunday these past few weeks.

Went to a GamesStop yesterday to trade in Ghosts, saw two Xbox One's on the shelf and not a single PS4 in sight.

Xbox One still in stock on Amazon UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GAOQAYK/

Has been all day, but still only at #27 in rankings. Also in stock online at Tesco, PC World and GAME (bundles only) since Friday.

PS4 in stock at GAME only, but as with XB1 just bundles.

PS4 with 1 game bundles have been in stock at argos.co.uk for home delivery for a couple of days now. I think you could get one delivered before christmas if you order now and pay the extra £4 for next day delivery.

EDIT: XB1 also in stock at argos, including the base £429 model.

There's a difference between keeping them in the back for the Sunday ad (which makes sense) and keeping them in the back "so word doesn't get out and there is a mob". I mean, the entire purpose of the sunday ad to get the word out, right?

Tesco online have had them in all week at least. They either have had a huge shipment or the demand isn't there, which will be worrying for MS come next year if it's the latter.

Well he used the word Mob. Says they don't won't people lining up everyday. Its whatever to me was simply relaying the idea that just because they aren't on the shelf doesn't mean the store does not have any. Which you seem to agree with.

Still haven't seen any images of PS4's on shelves.

Damn it, Sony. Make more! I'm getting tired waiting for mine.

I know. I hear reports of PS4's out there, but no pictures. Almost everyone has a camera on their cell. It makes me wonder if the reports are true.

Wouldn't they advertise them to get people to come in. Always thought the point of supermarkets was to get people in and then get them to spend money on all kinds of stuff even if what they originally wanted is sold out.

The point of the Sunday thing is to keep people coming in each week nothing to do with mob control. If they had a resupply each week they would welcome the hordes.

Checked in the Walmart in Inverness, FL, not a giant area but the clerk said they were going through PS4's much faster than XB.

I knew someone who worked as a rep for Nintendo from 2005 to 2008. She said that Nintendo did the same thing to elevate the demand for the Wii. They would always have a stock pile of Wii's in their warehouses but would only ship a few sporadically to different stores in different countries.

Yeah my uncle who worked for Nintendo said the same thing. He also got to see Street Fighter V.

Every single place I've been in the last couple of day have had both ps4s in stock and xb1. First time I've seen ps4s readily available (Kalamazoo, Michigan).

I stopped by my Best Buy in Portsmouth, VA to go look at any good Xbox 360 deals and used games they had. I figured now that the next gen was out, It'd be a good time to get a 360 on the cheap.

I said hello the the guy at the Geek Squad...and literally tripped over an Xbox One. I felt stupid but soldiered on. I think they had about 10 or so Xbox Ones lying around, no PS4s.

I also went to the Gamestop next door. About 5 Xbox Ones, no PS4s.

Went to a GamesStop yesterday to trade in Ghosts, saw two Xbox One's on the shelf and not a single PS4 in sight.

Its been in stock all week at the gamestop I went to also at toys r us, we were at toys r us finishing gift shopping on thursday and they had 6 xbones in shelves and no ps4.

I guess I could have taken pictures but I hardly thought to. I can see why some people would troll, but doubt many members of gaf would do that. It'd be pretty funny to have a poster getting caught lying about it though.

yeah, volume stores would never do that. Maybe in Rodeo drive boutiques, but for a mass market consumer electronic devoce at Walmart, no way.

If they have it in their ad for this week, this is the right way to do it. Why would you advertise a product as being in stock and not have any on that day? Why waste marketing dollars to get people to come in and purchase one, only to have it sold out the previous week. Best Buy and other retailers have been doing this. Holding stock for their ads so customers don't come in disappointed.

Edit: Just read the sarcasm, lol.

I actually did something I can't believe I did, which was ask the local GameStop clerk what his stock situation was like. PS4s were OOS and they had Xbones. He said they get fewer PS4s, but not by too much, and they just vanish instantly. This was at Willowbrook Mall in NJ.

This is what my local gamestop manager said yesterday when I went in. They actually had plenty of Xbox Ones and zero PS4s. He said anytime they get PS4s they are gone within the hour. I'm in SoCal.

Saw about 4 PS4's at BestBuy this morning. I had one in my hand, but I decided to put it back to because I knew I didn't need it.

It's probably to prevent someone from trying to steal one, because they're pretty high-demand items right now and for the forseeable future. This is just to keep a random guy from picking one up and running with it. We do the same thing with high-dollar items at my Rite Aid store, just to make sure that the item has been purchased.

I'm looking to get mine on January 3rd. I would be really mad if I have to wait till March to get one.

Anyway, all the M&P(Mom & Pop) stores around me(Brooklyn, N.Y.) are selling PS4's at the price of the XBone. There's no way I would pay over $435(including the change) for this console.

my best buy had 6 Xbox one boxes
But...
they were all EMPTY boxes [and I did ask about empty boxes]
they did not have any stock on hand
never assume

What retard retailer would fill a customer facing shelf with empty boxes only to have no stock?

None with any ounce of sanity would be my answer.

Southern San Diego/Tijuana GAF, went to Las Americas outlet (San Ysidro) last night and the Sony store had a stack of PS4s. I'd say around 15 or so behind the register. Didn't ask if they had more but the sales rep seemed to be really pushing a ps4 purchase on me.

So I guess 3DS and 360 are gonna win Dec. NPD, right guys?

The Wal-Mart I went to yesterday didn't have any vitas in stock and I saw someone pick up tearaway (for $40, no less). Heh, I told her it was $18 on psn this weekend but she said it was for a gift, something to put under a tree.

So vita and tearaway will be the surprise winners in December NPD

Local Wal-Mart here has been doing the same thing. They had 24 PS4s but were holding them in the back and required customers to ask for one. This was a Sunday too. I think it's pretty lame since everything is already locked behind glass so I don't quite see the reasoning.

At least in the US, retailers are legally obligated to have a certain amount of stock available if it's in their ad, which gets printed well in advance of the sale date. If Best Buy is advertising PS4s in the Sunday flyer but sold their entire stock when it arrived on Thursday evening, they can be prosecuted for "bait and switch;" advertising a popular product you don't actually have in hopes of unloading your stock of the unpopular product once you've lured people in to your store.

Possibly to discourage people from buying more than 1. They are still in extremely high demand and selling at a 100$ markup on CL and ebay, and this way you have to approach a worker to go to the back. Chances are they'll remember your face and demeanor and you won't try to come back and buy another (should a scalper attempt it)

xbox ones being everywhere is worrying for microsoft, supply has defiantly meat demand, they should be selling out at this stage of the game, not have stacks of 10 xbox ones at every store

Saw about 4 PS4's at BestBuy this morning.

Is it OK to start saying "pics or didn't happen" as a response to all these reports? I mean, we DO se a lot of pictures about Xbox Ones on the shelves, but not a single one with PS4's.

Unless all their consoles are placed in one country trying to overpower another console who hardly sees shelf time.

Just different marketing between both.
