PS4's next software update, Masamune, will be available on 10/28

So with Shareplay, COOP should be smoother than real game online coop right? In other words, it should be pretty much lag free or the same as any other internet coop? Games like Geometry Wars 3 and NBA2k15 should be faster w/ SharePlay under COOP? Or the same as regular online coop? We shall see!!

If anything, it should be worse than normal on-line co-op because you have to send a huge video stream instead of small state updates, and prediction which is normally used to hide latency won't be possible. Will probably still be good enough in many cases, though.

Youre not sending a video stream with SharePlay coop. Both need to have the game therefore are playing with their own game on their on ps4. So the latency should be the same or better (hopefully) than online play.

As far as I am aware, both players don't need to have the game to play co-op through SharePlay.

It is good news to hear that the video capture was fixed in 1.75. The only game I ever try and get video from is BF4 which is why I just assumed the feature was still broken. It's not like Sony mentioned that they fixed that feature in the patch notes and even before 1.75 you had people in threads acting like the feature worked as designed.

Thats what "stability" updates are. Their mostly just hotfixes for things. Would be nice if they listed fixes though.

from what I can tell BF4 is still fucked when it comes to recording clips but other games in my collection like Destiny, TLOU, and Diablo have all worked fine.

if you remember back near launch BF4 wouldn't record in-game audio when recording a later (BF4) update fixed that issue. seems like the games might be at fault.

Seriously, I don't expect anything in BF4 to work. After months of the campaign working fine, I took a break and I went back earlier this month to try to finish it and it would crash every time at the same two spots in the level. I retried 6 times before giving up.

I think your confused about how SharePlay works.

That's patently wrong. SharePlay is just a form of RemotePlay that allows a friend on PSN to access your PS4 while you're playing it.

Based on remoteplay I'd say it will be better than game's with bad netcode and worse than games that have good netcode.

Well I know for one using share play do not require both parties to have the game. They sort of made that clear when Sony announced it.
How it all works makes me say hmmm... But we will see come next week.

is the chat still part of the live on playstation stream? whyyyy...the chat box should be static and high quality. hate that if someone has a shitty quality connection the chat is also shitty looking

I am creator of Remote Play OT, and will gladly create similar thread for Share Play. :)

I'm so stoked about this update.

Also, why did it take Sony a year to add YouTube uploading when they've had Facebook since launch? YouTube is way more important.

Not that I'll probably even upload anything. It just has me curious.

SharePlay is limited to one friend right? You can't have a 4 player Towerfall session with SharePlay right?

yes, I think it's two controllers total but you can have multiple people in the "ShareParty". I don't see why a future update couldn't add more controllers though.

The streamer can go full-screen, so the chat is not displayed.

Example: http://www.twitch.tv/itsdiend

Yep, I read my comments off my tablet.

Yeah I know. But can't they get the chat working as separate from the video encode like on the Twitch website? Makes no sense that you have to wait for the quality of the video stream to catch up to be able to clearly read comment text.

Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding how it works.

It works like twitch now. If you don't have chat on the PS overlay. People can read it on the right when not full screen. When you choose to "show' comments It adds it to the stream as a overlay in addition to the right side like some twitch streamers also do. When the text is in as a overlay, it is effected by the video quality the same as twitch.

Unless I already have the game installed via disc and simply want to download the smaller patch instead of waiting for the bigger download (like say I game) to finish. It's not complicated. Prioritizing downloads is base functionality that should be there.

I live with it fine but it doesn't mean I don't want to see it improved either.

It does. It picks up where it left off.

Prioritizing downloads is something the console should do, not something we should have to do manually ourselves, there's no reason it couldn't prioritize downloads of updates based on where they are on the most recent used list. Or restrict downloads when using network features in games.

I really hate the idea of using a manual pause to try and control downloads, it's kind of like meddling with what you don't understand. Modern networking has all kinds of tricks to interleave multiple downloads and make most efficient use of bandwidth, a manual pause is such a clumsy and clunky way to manage that.

If you've got three downloads running and you pause two, then you could quite easily make all three slower. It's like going back to the days when web browsers downloaded images on a page one a time. Your router might see the drop in traffic and prioritize a youtube video someone's watching on another PC, your ISPs traffic shaping software may hand off your thick chunk of bandwidth to someone else. The best thing a console can do is greedily download as many things in parallel as it can. Which is what the PS4 does.

The only use I can see for a pause button is to stop all network traffic when you don't want the console using any. I could see how setting an optional cap on data would be useful that the console should try and stay below.

That's why I see a pause feature as something I do not want, but feel free to pause away ;-)

Well, whether you watch it on Twitch or in the Live from Playstation application, the comments are to the right anyway. I don't see any purpose for encoding them into the stream.

There are two parts of shareplay; one where someone takes control over your ps4/game while yoy spectate and one where you and a friend can play local coop games over the internet. Aka couch coop remote play style. To play couch coop with share play BOTH need the game. A good example is Towerfall.

A couple pages behind you'll see a screenshot showing the two variants of shareplay.

Does anyone else think that SharePlay should also be supported on the PS3?

PS4 host + PS3 client should be doable. Cell has enough horsepower to decode a 720p/30fps H.264 stream.

I could entice a lot of friends to buy a PS4 that way... just think of the possibilities. :)

Also, does anyone know how much upload do you need to stream in pristine HD quality (720p/30fps) with zero frame drops and decent compression? PS4 Share H.264 videos have a bitrate of 8 Mbps. Does that mean that you need 8 Mbps of upload speed?

No, that defeats the whole purpose of SharePlay.

Both need to have PS+ to play co-op, only the one sharing needs the game.

I am just reffering to the co-op option through SharePlay, e.g. A mate has FIFA, I don't, but I can still play a match against him as if I was at his house.

This lists what I am reffering to -http://techcrunch.com/2014/10/23/playstation-4-ps4-update-2-0/

No, there are three parts. One, a friend simply spectates. Two, you let your friend play for you. Three, both play together. None of these require the remote player to own the game. However, 3 does require the remote player to be a PS+ member.

Aside from"they want to sell ps4s", the ds3 is not a feature complete substitute for the ds4

This is when the chat is being run as an overlay on the PS4.

This is someone on PC displaying chat as an overlay as well.

In both circumstances the chat is dependent on stream quality.

This is PS4 stream without the chat as an overlay but viewed on twitch.

If you go full screen on twitch.tv and the chat is not an overlay, you won't see chat from PS4 or PC

Watching a stream and suddenly the quality drop, the chat becomes unreadable and you need to exit fullscreen?

yup. or just in general...any stream lower than High/High HD the chat text is fuzzy and gets worse and worse the lower the quality gets

ok i guess i just don't understand why you can't have the third one whilst still having the actual stream in a larger window...too resource intensive? for example, watching someone broadcast using playroom. if the stream quality drops...i have to minimize from full screen to be able to read the chat.

oh wells...i guess maybe the real problem is that there are so many people trying to stream on shitty connections and im barking up the wrong tree

Just read a post about the upcoming update from PlayStation Germany on Facebook and these are the most-liked comments:

  • I just want the messages to work as they should.
and then:

  • WE WANT A FLASH PLAYER!!! Sony just don't want us to use movie2k (illegal streaming platform), everybody vote this up so they will have to implement this anyway and we can use movie2k like on the PS3!
  • We don't need the fucking music player! Nobody uses MP3s anymore!
  • No support of audio CDs is a real bummer...
  • A friend at gamestop just told me that GTA V isn't coming to PS4 anymore. Everbody vote this comment up and I'll use this as a petition! #WeWantGTAVForPS4

I feel for the people in the social media department.

Not true in both cases only one person needs to own the game.
