PS5 Size Comparison

Bigger, uglier and slower then the next gen Xbox. It's going to be a tough time being a Sony fanboy :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

It's not fair to call it bigger, because while it's taller, it's less voluminous due to being narrower. Technically, the Xbox Series X is the bigger console. Having said this, I wonder which one is heavier.

We need to wait and see how deep it is. The Series X is quite shallow the PS5 could easily be more voluminous.

The PS5 looks really nice imho. Yeah it looks like a router but it's something different.

Just worried about the air vents being at the top of the console if I have it lying flat in an entertainment center shelf.

Although it might have less volume. It does look bigger.

I think that height might cause a few problems getting it into media cabinets etc... I'm looking at my PS4 tucked under my tv and I know that PS5 wouldn't fit.

You're missing a dimension though.

From the side it's almost twice the width of the Series X.

The PS5 looks like one of those fake chinese systems..

And it's big.

It also gives me PS3 vibes. Sony don't usually embrace a lot of curves.

It's big, but laid flat, my TV stand can accommodate a lot of horizontal space, less tallness, so the form factor of the PS5 is a non issue to me.

Is the vertical stand supposed to be used in horizontal mode like that?

Is it better for the long-term health of the system to keep these horizontal or vertical? I've always kept horizontal but it seems like this one is meant to be vertical.

If you look at the picture they have different stands with different angles for the different versions. Basically confirms you need it no matter how you place it... That seems like a bad idea.

You can see it in very high resolution on their site https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ps5/

The wider sides of the PS5 would have to be significantly wider than any of the vertical sides of the XSX (which I'm assuming are all equal) in order for it to be more voluminous.

Using Gimp's cut and paste functionality, I've determined that the front of the PS5 is 221 pixels wide and the front of the XSX is 344 pixels wide; hence, the front of the PS5 is 64.2% of the width of the front of the XSX.

Hence, in order for the PS5 to be more voluminous than the XSX, the wider sides of the PS5 would each have to be at least 135.8% wider than each of the vertical sides of the XSX ([100% - 64.2%] + 100%).

Additionally, since the top and bottom of the PS5 are obviously narrower than the top and bottom of the XSX, the difference between their lengths and those of the XSX's top and bottom would have to be compensated for by the wider sides of the PS5, meaning that the PS5's wider sides would have to be greater than the aforementioned 135.8% of each of the vertical sides of the XSX.

I think that we can assume that the PS5's wider sides aren't large enough to meet these criteria.

Horizontal has usually been cooler. I don't imagine this will be different, the vertical orientation has always been a marketing favorite

I think I actually like the VGER design of the xsex a bit better, there is a sort of beauty in the simpler design, whereas PS5 is kinda in my face about itself

You have the dimensions?

Don't forget the required stands make it a bit taller.

And by the looks of it, the vertical and flat tv stands aren't even the same. So you might need to buy both if you're thinking about flip flopping between standing it or laying it flat.

An alternative is just lay it flat balanced on a book that's about an inch thick.

Hear me out, maybe Sony pulled a fast one with those renders. Intentionally making it look big for a little bit of that trendy trendy free marketing. Then when we all go to pick it up at luanch we actually see a system within the size of the PS4 pro. 🤔

Regardless the thing will sit vertically very nicely with my set up. May even compliment it.

I do like the design of both, but honestly, as soon as I start playing the games I'm going to forget about how they look (unless they overheat or are loud).

It is not that big it will look alright next to my tv set. The XsX will look stupid next to it. Like the shorter, fattier and slowest brother.

My first impression is that it is over designed and kinda ugly. Now add to that it's enormous size. I still have an OG Xbox one and it's huge and hard to find a place for it. This looks bigger than that! I'll be waiting for a slim version.

I don't understand the need for the disc less version of the PS5. No disc drive will be a minor difference in cost. For a digital only version you would expect it to have "more" hard drive space. Sony can't do that without doubling the size of the SSD . That would be a pretty big increase in cost to jump to 1.6 TB of space.

I have a feeling they announced it, but the digital version will never be seen in retail. It's really something that doesn't make logical sense.
