PS5 Size Comparison

This thing is huge.
Any info on the plate thing at the bottom? Do we need it? Do we also need it, if we want to put it horizontally? Because I've only seen images with this.

The system is too curvy. You absolutely need it if you want to lay it on it's side.

so you people saying that size is somehow important for you ? like you would want smaller console ? and why ? you dont have space where to put standing box? i dont get it . XSX is large box because its box form, PS5 is not square or box . so then count how much space is inside box and then do comparison.
dont see any problems with size .

Just to be clear, (going off that chart) you can just about fit the PS5 within the XSX:

Except Sony have made it long rather than wide.

Probably so that, you know, it can actually fit into one of these things...

EDIT:
Actually I could have even moved another part showing that in terms of sheer bulk, the XSX is WAAAAAYYY bigger:

This should be a volume comparison and not a 2D area comparison

Short answer: it can't.

It can be cooler, BUT it would need at least 3 fans operating simultaneously in parallel to create enough air flow to cool the SoC and SSD. The thing is... since those 3 fans can theoretically move as much air as a single 12mm fan (like the one on XSX), you can be sure they'll be noisy af.

This can't possibly be true. The main purpose of the PS5's cooling system is to prevent it from being noisy and thereby avoid the negative criticism to which the PS4 Pro is subjected due to its fans becoming very loud when it becomes hot (which occurs very often).

This is also why the PS5 is designed to be supplied with a constant level of power rather than variable levels of power; the temperature of the console is subsequently predictable and easier to manage. Hence, I doubt that the PS5 will be loud and think that it will be practically silent.

Have you seen the patents for its cooling system? The heatsink makes contact with both the top and bottom of the APU, in order to maximize heat dispersion, which is a novel design.

If their SSD solution is going to require a stable throughput, I wonder how much of the thermal solution is dedicated to the SSD? Most if not all PCi 4.0 SSD out there now carry a thick heat sink on them that rely on passive cooling.

Does tall equal BIG? Cause the PS5 is tall... that Series X is THICC. If my GF was 6'2" and 150lbs I wouldn't call her big. But, If she was 5'9" and 190lbs... yea, she might be big.

You haven't seen the back and sides yet, we don't know how deep she goes.

She might look tall and thin from the front, but who knows how far she goes around.

If the result is that the PS5 is whisper quiet, then the size is worth it. If it still sounds like a jet engine sometimes then WTF

I think a lot of this size is due to better cooling. I'm very curious how often it can REALLY stay at max 2.23Ghz.

A bit bigger from the image I saw. And the PS3 fits easily for me.
Don't forget that horizontally you need the stand, which adds height.

Lots of people aren't seeing that image. I don't know what stand you have, but I imagine if its that big you could fit anything you wanted into it.

It's most likely a little deeper than the Series X, for sure. I'm just saying she looks tall from the front and the Series X looks low and wide LOL

Edit: Overall, i think the PS3 was probably the biggest console ever. It was long, it was wide, it was semi rounded, and it was thicc.

I wish they had the balls to do a full breakdown and show all the components and how they fit like MS did.

I just really want to see what the guts of this look like and see if I can understand the engineering.

I'm sure it's coming. Probably gonna be a freaking WIRED thing again. They're just drawing it out. I'm guessing that they'll probably wait a few weeks, idk why they have good buzz right now. But, they'll likely do a breakdown, or maybe show more games, after the Xbox event.

Oh I didn't see the stand. But yea I do have a lot of space in there. So I imagine the stand still wouldn't make that much difference. Here's a pic of my setup. Not the best pic but you can tell hopefully still:

Yeah you got room. I have big openings like that in mine as well, but I see lots of people running shitty Ikea stands with little to no room anywhere.

Oh shit, I didn't realize from the reveal how big this thing was. I just measured my media center cubby space and if it was just one more centimeter taller, it wouldn't fit. This is probably going to be an issue for a lot of people.

There's probably shelving units/tables being designed just to hold and display this beast. Think I'm going to attach mine to the wall though. 🤔

The one thing about the comparison pic is that it highlights just how good the design and form factor of the OG PS4 was when it was released. Pretty amazing when you think about what they managed to put inside that thing.

The design has grown on me; I think that it's beautiful and that its large size makes it look glorious. However, I still think that it'd look better if it were entirely black.

I'm going to have to remove the top shelf of my media cabinet in order to fit a PS5 in it, assuming that it has to be positioned vertically for optimal air flow.

I dont think horizontal or vertical will matter, the design of the collars will allow for airflow. Just make sure its not blocked on the side where the airflow comes out

Also. Just throw out that entire cabinet. Did you steal that from your school gym or something. The fuck?

Horizontal XSX in that picture a few posts above looks wrong. I know it's designed to function horizontally but it just looks bad. The Xbox nexus logo would presumably be the wrong way too since it can't rotate.

LOL, it's an Ikea cabinet (Link). I've had it for three or four years.

Damn! WW really is sticking it to Batman!
Eh, the camera angle just makes it look that way, but there's actually no contact; the sword is an inch in front of Batman.

Yeah, I really want to see the horizontal width to make sure it will bit on the shelf where my PS5 is currently (or another shelf as the ones on the left and right of my TV stand are all the same width and height. No way I can do vertical unless I just put it behind the TV or move my PSVR off its stand on my Subwoofer (which is an option as I never use it and should sell it anyway). I really don't like having my gadgets out in plainview though and prefer them on the shelves where I can close the doors and hide them when not in use. I like to keep a clean, simple, organized look around the house.

It seems to be 40 x 20 x 6cm? 4800cm3?
It is hard to know without have the others side... I'm only confident in the 40cm tall.

It is around 40cm width.
It is smaller than PS4 in profundity (27.5cm).

People have been complaining about the size of the PS5 since the reveal so has anybody tried to measure its exact dimension from pics?

My guess for max width is 375mm and height/thickness is 95mm excluding the stand. The depth is harder to tell but I would say 220mm-250mm.

Those comparisons to other consoles seem off to me in many cases.

You guys don't have full media rooms dedicated solely to video games, with 7.2 surround sound, wiring through the walls and a separate large media closet to store consoles of any size (or noise level)?

Start taking this hobby seriously noobs.
