You're comparing an incremental update to 2013 hardware to top of the line 2020 hardwareIt was smaller and more powerful than the One S or the PS4 Pro

You either weren't around for the Series X is a fridge and will never fit under my TV, or you are trying to shift the narrative now.
Im not sure which is happening yet.
This dude has one in their house and can verify these claims.![]()
I'd bet decent money that most wives would rather have a PS5 on display in the house than an Xbox Series X.
One device looks like it could be in a modern art gallery. The other is a black plastic box. Again, I don't care personally. They will both get put into my media cabinet. But the designs of both consoles absolutely reflect the culture of both companies.
Yep i don't question my wife's hair tool purchases and she does not question the electronics by me. I am not dumb either and run wild but with millions out of work i can understand if 500 now is a bigger purchase to people who were doing fine pre covid-19. I still have my series x savings waiting for pre orders but not everyone is so lucky. What's with the alarming amount of people in here being told what they can and cant purchase by their wives? My wife and I have a partnership. I dont bitch at her when she buys something I dont like and she doesnt bitch at me. We like for each other to have things we enjoy. I'd hate to have chosen a life partner that I have to screen all my purchases through.
It's a 500 dollar purchase not a life changing decision. I cant imagine a reality in which my wife would complain over such a thing. Sorry for all of you that are in those types of marriages though. I do understand that we all make choices we have to live with![]()

I agree if my wife was the kind of person who told me no to a system purchase because how it looked we would not be married lol. Wtf it sits in the entertainment center it is not displayed as art with spot light. Some guys just cave easy to any excuse its ugly gtfo. I see it as a control thing.I agree with discussing financials with your spouse if you're on hard times or if it's a big purchase for sure but the issue seems to be being made with its size and how it looks and people's wives dismissing it out of hand. Havent heard anyone mentioning cost in the wife argument yet.
To reiterate, I'm glad I've never had to think before buying something "would my wife be ok with this?"
It does if you don't pretend I said that.So you wanted something smaller AND more powerful?
That doesn't make sense
So you're saying if you're wife came home and shat on your dinner table you'd lap it up? Please. Get off your high horse. What's with the alarming amount of people in here being told what they can and cant purchase by their wives? My wife and I have a partnership. It's called compromise. You can be considerate towards others AND tolerant of other peoples dislikes, not just the latter.
I'm presuming that your wife hates some things and you don't actively go out of your way to bring those things into your house -- That's what is being talked about here.
Some people's partners are sensitive to things like clutter etc. No need to act like you're better than everyone.
According to some recent details, the size is due to an increased need for cooling, among possible other reasons.
When one commenter asked on LinkedIn why the console is so bulky--as spotted by VG247--PlayStation's vice president of UX design Matt MacLaurin replied: "Thermals. This gen is little supercomputers. While the 7nm process delivers amazing heat performance for the power, the power is very extreme."
However, there might be other reasons for the large size. A leaked patent seems to suggest that Sony is building a cartridge that might work with the PS5. Some observers have speculated that it's an external solid-state drive that will slot into the console for memory management, but there's no official word if that's the case. We still don't know how much the PS5 will cost, or the PS5's full line-up of games, but odds are likely that more details will come out over the coming weeks.
Wonder how many fans that thing has.![]()
The PS5 Is A Big Console For A Good Reason
According to some recent details, the size is due to an increased need for cooling, among possible other reasons.www.gamespot.com
lol, you dont have a wife i guess.
no, both are terrible for a living room, but ps5 is bigger and more noticeable.
My living is already full of electronic devices, i dont need each of them to be a diva. Itd look like a circus.
A good example is Alexa; its there, it merges on the room and its passes pretty much unnoticeable. Same for my MBP. Thats the ideal.
It is the box (where you have the PS5 inside) size... not the console.Damn, if that's right it makes me sad. My floating shelf is 500mm x 300mm and I was worried about the depth for this reason. Nearly 500mm on its side is fucking awful. Means it's a top shelf job which is practically touching the ceiling :/ You also have to have a inch or so added to the depth to cover HDMI connection and the power cord plastic. So it would be more like 400mm deep
Hoping that's fake - If it was flat, then a wall mount might actually have been a cool way to show it and take the shelf down.
I don't know how you came to that conclusion — if 1/20 people liked something I did I would consider it a failure.
Come on dude, anyone can play this game. Not going to talk about my personal situation on a website but let me try your style:
"You must have a wife with no taste".
or
"You must not be in charge of your own house".
Let's not do that silliness.
No one outside of the makers really know how these things will feel in a living room right now , but again, given Sony's and MS' culture, I think Sony cares quite a bit more about design and how a product "feels" to live with. They are a Japanese company after all. I mean, Apple used to admire them for how they designed their consumer products and they drew a lot of inspiration from them in the past. No one in the tech industry really admires Microsoft for anything. They are a company built on basically stealing ideas and implementing them for cheaper mass consumption. And I stand by my opinion that each design reflects the culture of their company, and that that PS5 almost surely would have a higher WAF *in general*. One of the boxes looks like an electronics toy, the other could easily be grouped with a couple other pieces and look like a small bit of decor in a room.
Considering the size, you have to assume it's in the box, fingers fucking crossed.Internal or external power brick tho...
I'm actually really looking forward to the promised teardown.
Yeah, theyve never had an external power brick yet on a PlayStation but you never know. I hope they let us take the lid off as well like the pro to clean it.Considering the size, you have to assume it's in the box, fingers fucking crossed.
It's independent of whether you have a wife or not. I like minimalism, dont want electronics imposing its very subjective style to my living. You know, its my living after all.
"given Sony's and MS' culture, I think Sony cares quite a bit more about design"
Completely disagree. I think both are great designing products. MS has amazing products, at least since Zune, but nowdays Panos' based hardware is great. And particularly on the console side, Xbox One X is fantastic.
To give you an idea, my living room is similar to this:

See why a 45 cm long colorful device is not a good idea?

That is the living room of someone who does not have young kids. Also that wall would make an excellent candidate to be projected onto (if it was a light grey) and then you can put all of the AV equipment up on a shelf behind your head so you can barely see it.
So why not just say that then instead of "lol, looks like you dont have a wife."
Take responsibility for your own taste dont blame it on a make believe spouse.
Because the original message made a reference to the opinion of a wife, Mr. sensitive boy.
As long as it is quiet with no issues don't care about the size.
Ha! Hmmmm. But how would you factor in the fact that people are more likely to just like something just because they SAW IT rather than actively disliking it -- which is usually a pretty strong sign that someone has gone out of their way.But only 50,000 people disliked it out of 24 million. So....
Reading comprehension eludes you.
What part of what I said confused you?
I literally said we like for each other to have things we enjoy.
I literally said we have a partnership.
My wife and I are equals. I pity those in relationships that aren't.
Comparing my wife taking a shit on the table to two adults respecting each other? Can you get more insanely hyperbolic?
Imagine thinking someone who has an equal partnership with their wife is on a "high horse."![]()
The fact that you didn't see the humour in what I wrote and actually pity me for that means that you definitely, definitely deserve each other.
I can barely comprehend the sanctimony in your post.
Are you Misterxmedia? Here, I found an easy way to end this nonsense. This is how big the PlayStation 5 is and it's absolutely ridiculous.

So don't buy it then. There are many choices I make based on aesthetics. It's independent of whether you have a wife or not. I like minimalism, dont want electronics imposing its very subjective style to my living. You know, its my living after all.

i mean, i wont, but thought it was worth pointing out.
Don't tell me that. Tell the replies in that Tweet sharing it to other people. lolSeems fake.
Edit - It is fake.
- The proportions are different from Sony pics.
- There is no reflection of it on TV
- There is no shadow of it in table even when you move the camera over it (the shadow goes to the desk)
He just used AR.
Edit - I just found out there is an AR App that let that has the PS5 model with big proportions and people on Twitter are using it lol
I read the comments... some few spotted the thing.Don't tell me that. Tell the replies in that Tweet sharing it to other people. lol
