PSA: Titanfall is the years best multiplayer shooter. (It's also only $20 atm)

That's still too expensive. It's hard to get into games other than Attrition at times. I don't see it lasting much longer on PC.

Have they added in any new weapons yet? I got to Gen3 before getting bored but the lack of content, especially weapons was all that killed it for me. Gameplay was awesome.

It's my favourite game of the year so far. Really addictive and most of all, FUN !!!

It's only problem is the fact that it doesn't have enough modes and no offline or campaign mode. But otherwise, the game is a blast !

I'm waiting for it to hit $10 before jumping in, biggest disappointment of the year for me. It was just so barebones, once the novelty of the mechs wore off, there wasn't really much left.

I enjoyed Team Fortress 2 more than Titanfall and I read on here that only 3 people play on PC and 5 on Xbox One. I heard the July 1998 Playstation Magazine Jampack has more content than Titanfall and that was free.

I know nothing of PvZ Garden Warfare. Is it comparable to Titanfall? This'll sound really lazy, but can someone pitch it to me?

Also, regarding the thread title: don't forget Halo 2 Anniversary ships in November.

Fantastic game. The base foundation obviously took a ton of work. When they get a chance to just focus on iteration....boy, the sequel will be unbelievable.

I'm not typically huge on competitive shooters (I'm much more into co-op over anything else), but the mobility in this game brings back some of the things that made me love Tribes 2 so much - it's fun to just get in there and move, but then you're also shooting stuff on top of this.

Specifically because of the fact that you get so much extra mobility, is the reason why it's fun in the first place... As well as the really simple, yet well-designed interplay between Pilots and Titans. Running around in your Titan feels like a better mech game than, say, Hawken, while running around as Pilot feels like a fantastic mobility-centric arena shooter. The two together, playing off of each other, ends up being quite a lot of fun.

Now if only they had some sort of meaningful co-op content available... How great would it be to get Lost Planet-style giant bosses to fight against? Titans vs. Kaiju.

Uhh what are you talking about? Find games very easily.
On Sunday morning on the Australian server (X1) I literally couldn't find a game of attrition after waiting for ages. Was pretty disappointed until I switched to south east Asia and it found a game almost instantly.

For a moment there I was worried I had just wasted my money.

Titanfall is a great game. I would say if you are really interested in playing it you should get it on the xbox one and perhaps the 360. The amount of people playing on the pc is always low while i can always find any game type on the xbox one.

Username is too perfect

But no. I never play in the attrition playlist. Variety or ctf for life. And I never have problems finding games.

And anyone saying the game has no depth is fooling themselves. Also people who played it at launch but haven't gone back since then should see what's changed.

I have this. Played for about a week then realized there was very little content and the matchmaking was really bad. Then heard they were planning a bunch of DLC maps.

I don't understand these people's thinking. You take a game that's already struggling because there's too few players, then you decided to fragment the community further and make it *worse* by releasing DLC map packs not everyone is going to buy?

I generally don't buy DLC because I remember when developers used to release them for free. Or as part of expansion packs, which were always a FAR better deal than any "Season Pass" will ever be.

If they had been smart about it, they would have released some of these maps as free content to entice players back, along with new weapons and overall more content. There was not enough content in the main game to warrant it's price tag, imho.

The actual gameplay was fun though, so it's a real shame they managed to screw it up so badly in other ways.

Had fun playing it, but it doesn't have much content, which made it easy to put down after a while I go back to it every now and then, though.

I'm pretty burned out on shooters, though, The only ones that I plan on picking up are Far Cry 4 and the Master Chief Collection.

not even the best "T-fall" game of the year
towerfall:ascension

but seriously, i tried the free game time on pc, had difficulty finding games on any mode that wasn't attrition
Towerfall has a terrible single player and no online mp whasoever. It's a bit of a laugh if you have people to play with locally, but otherwise the game has very little to it. It's extremely overrated.

I think this game missed it's chance on PS4. Maybe Titanfall 2.

This. You had a competent MP shooter and the hardware to back it up. Instead you took the MoneyHat Challenge and failed (comparatively speaking - thing still has sold around 4M copies).

I had fun with Titanfall for a few weeks, but the lack of content killed the game for me. For a $60 game, it was just way too bare bones. The lack of a campaign didn't bother me in the least, but it definitely needed more modes, maps, weapons, customization, etc. Running through the gens had no payoff and got old quick. I was bored with the game before the first DLC dropped and haven't gone back since.

Meanwhile, PvZ has much more gameplay variety and customization and only costs $40, plus all the DLC has been free. Titanfall would have been more successful going this route I think.

Was hyped as hell for the game, but quickly realized it's another run-of-the-mill console shooter.

I LOVE Halo - the slower-paced gameplay and focus on teamwork really cater to my enjoyment. I can appreciate games like Quake and Unreal as they have an absurdly high skill ceiling.

But Titanfall is another iteration of the recent play style of "Oh, I saw him before he saw me! I got a kill! ... ... Oh man, he was to my side and he saw me before I saw him; damn, I died." Rinse/repeat. I'm tired of games that confrontation wins go the the person who saw the other person first 90% of the time.

Well to be clear there is a difference between burn cards and skills, since cards allow for a wider range of possibilities. But I suppose you meant skills.
Right now I mostly use cloak as my main skill, because it's the more commonly useful. It can make you harder to notice across the map, and even when fighting at close quarters it can give you a small reaction advantage. And it is a decent counter-measure for wall hack too, since your opponent can't see you then IIRC.
I can see how the parkour upgrade can be very useful too, especially for people who are good at it. Being able to move faster, and cling to walls longer, gives a great strategic advantage to skilled players.
The only scenario where I'd use wall hack is in situations where you would have enemies defending a point. In that case it is very useful to see where they can be hidden before entering the room.

Well the wall hack has a very low refresh rate (on purpose of course), so that the orange silhouettes are usually where the enemies were half a second ago, not where they are right now. At close quarters, you'd be tempted to shoot at an empty space while the opponent is strafing on you. And the fact that the "real" image is half hidden by the blue/orange overlay doesn't help.

As a general rule, I'd say the wall hack is useful against enemies that don't move much. But in Titanfall, there is a lot of moving around. :)

Probably yes. Although I don't usually rate them by efficiency, but by the way I like to play, or the "feeling" of the guns. For example I like using the light machine gun for its loud "tuht-tuht-tuht-tuht" sound and increasing firing rate, even if it's far from the most efficient weapon. Or the R97 with silencer for the fast "trrrrrt" at close range. Sometimes I feel like sniping with a rifle, or just farm bots with the smartgun.
It's like playing a fighting game, you can have one or two main characters you're best with, but changing style from time to time is fun too. :)

Sorry I don't have time to give a full reply. I liked the LMG as well but it was fairly inaccurate, and there was a "Slammer" modifier I believe that increased damage to Titans. So I made the assumption that the gun's role was more of an anti titan weapon. Since it was fairly inaccurate & that modifier was unique to that weapon.

But I think we are similar in our tastes to a degree. I WANTED badly to use the LMG. I just couldn't find a good role for it to play in TDM.

Thanks again Alx

Got to Gen 10 in two weeks, tried the first DLC and liked it. Second DLC was trash.

Probably trading it in soon.

Oh wait, you're on X1. Nevermind.

Phenomenal game. No other multiplayer FPS comes close in regards to player movement freedom. Titan vs Pilot gameplay is too much fun. As long as there's a healthy community (there is on x1) I'll keep playing.

Yup, when people like to talk about Titanfall like it is some return to arena shooters like Quake or Unreal it just shows how little they know about those games. This game is 90% COD especially in it's gunplay. It is full of random things that have crept into multiplayer game design since COD4. Burn cards, 'grunts' (bots), weapon and attachment unlocks which create imbalance, exterior out of game meta garbage, people spawning behind eachother, it is all designed to create chaos so everyone gets kills. It's annoying design and the reason people are dropping it like crazy and there never was a competitive scene is because it's clear it is another cod-type console shooter that has very little depth.

I agree, completely. Especially the statement "... designed to create chaos so everyone gets kills." Sure, a better player will get MORE kills; but anyone who has played a shooter before can hold their own after a few games against most players.

There's to much ... gunk(?)... thrown in, that it dilutes the raw skill necessary to out smart, out maneuver, and out-gun your opponent.

I will say, the wall-running and traversal is really well done; there's a really good "flow" to the gameplay in its movement. There is room for improvement, but overall, I'm pleased with how well it controls when you want to zip around. And I can appreciate their effort to bring back vertical gameplay; something severely lacking in games like Call of Duty and Battlefield (thought BFBC2 had some unique elements in this regard, though).

I just cannot get behind the randomness of it all.

Too many guns, too many burn cards, too many spawn points... just too many things to account for, that in the end, you just have to hope you're better equipped for a confrontation than your opponent.

I really want to get it because it is only 20 bucks, but I remember having issues getting into any games on my 48 hour trial

I dunno, I had more fun with Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare.

Kind of sad that this is true, but this is exactly how I felt as well.

EDIT: I guess I shouldn't say sad. Plants Vs. Zombies is a good game. I just had more expectations for Titanfall I suppose.

i honestly think people who enjoyed PvZ more just didn't put up with sucking at TF long enough to get good at it.

i sucked for a solid two weeks straight, now i'm pretty good [still not the best], but my enjoyment improves in conjunction with my skill.

i was excited as all heck for PvZ on PC, played it for two hours and thought "time to get back to a real game" [ie - TF].

maybe the unique mechanics are just off-putting for some players? it certainly takes a whole new skill tree which doesn't come quickly and/or easily...

Small suggestion : maybe you could look for games being broadcasted on Twitch, and check how long it takes them to find a game. From my experience it's quite easy on Xbox, EU area and mostly Attrition/Marked for Death mode, but I suppose experience can vary with platforms, areas and game modes. But I find it hard to believe the servers can be as barren as some claim here.

it really is a great game. excellent even. great cod feel in the gunplay coupled with genre leading movement (nothing compares). titans are just the icing on the cake, its the pilot gameplay that really makes this special. shame there is such a backlash against hyped (xbone) games these days.

I really enjoyed my time with titanfall but I think the subject should state best so far....cause destiny is going to be the best.

I agree with the OP. Best shooter of the year. In fact, I might even say best shooter in years. It's the closest anyone has come to matching the COD magic that has so many people hooked.

Aside from the fact that it's not 'hooking' anyone. I'd imagine COD4 has a livelier community on PC than Titanfall does right now. For a MP-only FPS game released in march, that's pretty damning.
