PSM3 reviews DMC4 and Burnout Paradise!

Yeah because DMC2 really looked great, didn't it? No wait, it never did.

I have the overpriced demo and if DMC4 doesn't give me more value for my money then something is seriously wrong, and it definitely isn't my logic!

No, you're logic is definitely wrong, because you're pretending that you KNOW a game will be awesome. You don't. You just want it to be.

And no, sorry, DMC2 never looked as bad as it ended up BEING.

You're being dumb in saying that a game you never played should have a higher score. That's not something that's really arguable. It's stupid and fanboyish to say something like that.

That "overpriced demo" is a racing game, it essentially has infinite replay value.

Well, the small quotes coupled with the scores don't really tell much at all. Personally I'll wait for something more substantial, kthx. I still have my preorders of GT5:P and DMC4: LE :D

Actually, the whole hoopla with DMC2 was that it looked great in videos/previews but sucked ass once played.

That was because people were expecting it to deliver the winning formula which DMC1 contained. I expect DMC4 to deliver the winning formula which DMC3 contains.

The difference? DMC2 didn't actually deliver the formula, whereas I already know what DMC4's gameplay contains (real-time style switching, devil bringer, awesome weapons, an actual STORY, etc). Its going to be a beautiful extension of DMC3, and I'm going to love it.

DMC2 doesn't even exist anyway.

Reviews aren't meant to evaluate value...
That is exactly what they are meant to do. They are supposed to let you know if a game is worth purchasing or renting. XBLA reviews would look really different if they were full priced products.

And low scores for DMC games don't worry me at all. The mainstream press didn't really get behind DMC3 at all.

LOL @ everyone claiming DMC4 is another DMC2.

DMC2 was never playable to the public. DMC4 was and people already know what the gaemplay is like and what to expect in the final product.

DMC4 got a low score because its on the Xbox 360, if it was exclusive to the PS3, the score would've been higher.

Maybe You are right, the are using the 1up review system (only the other way around)

I had no interest in this game, until I saw one of the latest trailers. I loved God of War, and this looks just as epic and fun to play. I played a bit of DMC1, but never got past the second level on DMC3 (don't mock). I guess I didn't get the mechanics properly, 'cause I managed to get pretty far in Ninja Gaiden before I lost interest. And I finished the final level in God of War, which I think is considered pretty tough.

Anyway, maybe I'll buy it, depends on my economy at the point of release.

So going on what slim information was posted, we can infer DMC4 gets points off for lacking mainstream appeal (which I'd argue it has, maybe not as much as God of War but it isn't exactly lacking)

but GT5 is the simulationiest car tuning simulation that ever simulated a simulation and a slice (albeit a substantial one) of it gets 8.2?

>insert chatter about inconsistency in review scores and their lack of value as proper tools for critical analysis here<

My guess is that DMC4 is and will be getting points off for being more of the same. Doesn't matter to me, I want more of DMC.

Fine by me if that is the case, haven't played a DMC game since the first.

GT has huge mainstream appeal.

nah, gow is a cakewalk, the hardest part is jumping hell.

and only because of the camera rotation.

I think 80% is a good score. Means the game is above average. Sure I wished for the game to be a 9+ but it being an 8 won't make me not buy it.

A few things:

DMC1, DMC:SE (mostly received scores in the 9's) but the 8's it did receive were from majority European press. Same applies with the various Ninja Gaiden versions.

Just because this is one of the first reviews for DMC4, doesn't make it the "indicative" one (gaf always does this). Computer Games Mag gave DMC3 a 3/10 -- what if that one was the first review for the game? Let's wait for the 90 other review DMC4 gets before you call it a non-9+ game.

EVEN THE BEST GAMES GET A FEW 8's. DMC1 did, DMC3 did, DMC3:SE did, Ninja Gaiden did, Black did, Sigma did, even God of War has.

PS: You guys also notice no game received a 9.0+ in that magazine (PSM UK), maybe they don"t throw around 9's as much.

PPS: Penit (Finland - reviewer) gave Burnout Paradise a 7.7 -- oh my god, the suxxors. Uh no, why does GAF fixate -ON ONE FUCKIN REVIEW?-

I'm interpreting the DMC4 review to mean "Fans of the series will love it, but if you didn't like Devil May Cry this game won't change your mind." No reason for concern here.

I interpret the review as giving the game a score that most European publications have -always- given the DMC games. (that is a notch below western reviewers) Different games appeal to different regions. Ninja Gaiden also has the hardest time penetrating in Europe. But they do love their god of war! Wait for the 90 or so reviews DMC4 will be getting from western reviewers. Don't fixate on this one just because it's an early review.

Wait, they actually review their games out of 100?

No need to defense. I'm surely buy the game as other fans. But the review score start to worry me. 2 publications with 85% and then 80%? I haven't play the game yet , but at this point it seems DMC4 might not be "the best DMC game in the series" as I(we) expected.

Even though the majority doesn't get into hardcore action game much. But you should know that DMC has a lot of mass appeal. With 85% and 80%, it is not a very good sign. Remember when RE4 got 100% for first review ? It was a bit overrate , and then the overall score came down to 95% or something. I'm sure we will see a lot of 90% for DMC4 ,but finally it would be somewhere around 85% which is not bad but not very good neither.

DMC4 gets a lot of attention from non-fan so I really hope it (should) does better.

How the hell do you give SOF a 62%, especially at the $60 price point of the PS3. It's a 30% game on the PC for $40, for $60 I'd give it like a 5%.

The Burnout Paradise scores makes me go "Huh?" but everything else seems fitting. I already pre-ordered DMC4 Special Edition and due to past entries I know what I am getting and that I will love it. How is everyone finding a way to bring up DMC2? I mean is a B (5.0/50% is not average we all know) the new D? Then again this is Gaf.

DMC3 received and average of around 85% in reviews too and brought the series new fans, and redeemed the series for old fans. I expect DMC4 to get the same reviews DMC3 did and I'm sure it'll be well received with fans.

From the early demo I played at SDCC, I really can't see this game being worse than DMC2. If you liked DMC3, then I'm sure you'll be right at home with 4.

Doesn't PSM3 have a rumors section? Which rumors did they steal from surfergirl this month?
I almost felt like like picking it up and checking that out myself yesterday, but alas I don't have the time to bother with my PSM3 reportings any more.

Wait...DMC 4 got an 80% and this thread is only at 2 pages??? DMC Defense force needs to do some serious recruiting!:lol

Should we really care? DMC3 got the same scores and that didn't keep it from being, far and away, the best action game last gen.

Oh yeah, add IMO somewhere in that sentence so I don't ruffle the feathers of the Ninja Gaiden fanboys.

LoL Did you even read my sentence before quoting it and spouting this shit? I said 80% is a GOOD score, above average, and just because it isn't 9 it WON'T make me NOT buy it. <-- 2 negatives negates each other...

A Turok demo needs to be released on XBL/PSN NOW.
You'll have your demo before the end of the month.

As for the Turok score...well, they can't all be 9 out of 10s. *shrug*

Hey bish, how old is the build of the game in the Gamestop demo? I am just wondering because it seems like it didn't have final polish yet.
