bad information from bloomberg: sony hasn't said it will take until may 31 to fix psn. there is no new info on when service will be back. sony us says the bloomberg was inaccurate, just taking info from what kaz said a wk ago about getting back up in may.

Clearly Dean did not actually read the Bloomberg article. Also I'm not sure how he reconciles his claims that Bloomberg was both inaccurate and merely repeating information Sony already stated.

I'm sure am enjoying my Steam® PC experience since I don't even have to buy subscriptions to online services or space dollars to buy my games or DLC!

I've been playing Crysis, The Witcher in preparation to TW2, and even playing some games that I bought on recent weekly sales at peanut prices like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Medal of Honor! And all of them at the highest resolutions possible, and with all the graphical bells and whistles turned on!

Add to that the ability to post screenshots, and gameplay videos online. Manage my Steam® PC friends and chat with them. All of this in a whole-package free of any additional charge! It's a complete steal. And I for a change am not the one being stolen.

Steam® PC the way games were meant to be played!

I'm just joking! Don't hurt me... Please.
You're not joking this is true, every single word of this is true.

While I miss PSN, this downtime has given me the chance to whittle down my backlog. The wife on the other hand is missing Home something fierce.

Published this afternoon on Edge Online.

Chris Svensson, Capcom Entertainment’s corporate officer and senior vice president, has said the continuing unavailability of PlayStation Network is costing the firm “hundreds of thousands, if not millions” in lost revenue.

In a post on the Capcom-Unity forums, Svensson said: “I’m frustrated and upset by [the outage] for a number of reasons. As a consumer, I also play games online on PS3, which I can’t do... and likely my personal information is also compromised. Secondly I like to buy things in the PlayStation Store and that I can’t do right now.

“As an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage [is] obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget. These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans.

And Capcom won't be the only ones feeling the cost of this.

The article also highlights something which I didn't realise. Due to the DRM of Bionic Commando 2 on the PS3 it is completely unplayable due to PSN being down. This draconian DRM makes me less sympathetic towards Capcom.

So much misinformation dammit.
Sony could fix this, but they let their starving customer base get its information from internet rumors instead of from Sony itself. People are desperate and Sony is tight lipped.

The reason? Probably because they dont even have a remote clue as to when its coming online. When systems go down in my company we work until the problem is resolved, and there is no such thing as 'knowing' when the system is coming online. The system comes online the second after engineers decide its finally functional and the switch is flipped.

In this case, its a tough situation for Sony. They have customers getting mixed information, rumored information. Customers are pissed, upset, disenchanted .. and Sony could help by communicating better. However, what can Sony say? They probably have no clue when the system will be up, and people expecting a hard date have little knowledge of how managing a disaster like this works.

The whole situation is just ... well, its a disaster in just about every regard. Sony is scrambling, Sonys customers are scrambling ... and nobody really knows whats going on. I do not expect Sony to come out with a hard 'on' date for the system. Planning it isn't how you do this, what they'll probably do is trickle in services geographically and probably sub regionally. Rumors will get out that PSN services are coming online and shortly after Sony will announce its roll out plan.

Ultimately Sony needs to do a better job at communicating between now and then. How they do that? No clue.. but they have got to give some kind of regular update, we can see first hand that by not doing that, people are getting restless.

Final Fight is also crippled because of the outage.

That's why I think Sony should have a no or reduced royalty period. Bite the bullet to encourage publishers to continue to make games for your online platform. If they don't at least do this, I can see more DL titles becoming 360 exclusive.

just realized i purchased $50 psn voucher code late april, it doesnt have an expiry date or anything right?

I think I read they don't, but after a year they do? I bought a $20 one a few weeks ago I'd like to use.

That would suck if they don't work. Wasted money.

Thanks. :)
Two PS3 games is a very good deal, I wonder if it is full games (like Infamous) or PSN games (which makes the deal less than very good, but still nice).

Give me your credit card and I will send you two free games! That would be a great deal for me!! Sorry Sony you have failed your supporters...

Hence my shinny new 360 (damn need friends now lol)

Yeah, that seems awfully high? Maybe worldwide sales?

Well, it is worldwide sales of an extremely large backcatalogue. Also, their DLC for particular games cannot be sold as well. I can see it being in the millions, easily. Everything from PS1 games to SSF4 DLC costumes, to full games....yep.

Why do you keep coming into this thread?

So, no one cares about Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2?

I think everyone who tried it kinda doesn't want to pick it back up :(

Nah, I don't believe it's in the millions either. Couple of hundred thousand absolute maximum. Digital sales are always skewed heavily towards their initial release. I imagine things even out after a few months, but there's no way they are earning millions. I just don't believe it.

Have a hard time believing it'll reach the millions when Capcom didn't release any games in April/May. Can't think of any big dlc released during that period either.

Also keep in mind Capcom has to project lost sales, which muddies things - people who were going to grab SSF4 or MvC3, for instance, on PS3 but don't feel like a single-player (currently) game is worth it. I can still see the millions, dammit!

Wait... Somebody still used Xfire? What?

I'm just fuckin with ya

Considering steam only added screenshot support recently, and Xfire still enabled video stream and recording... yeah. Not much point now except for the game time log. Steam needs to add that too for Non steam games.

we won't see a playable psn until may 31 for sure

I mean just online prolly won't be up until may 31st and then sometime in June we'll see the rest of it up

imo

Chuuuuuuuuuuuuurch.

I spent like 12 hours this past weekend playing the Witcher. What a damn great game.

On target to finish it by next week as well.

So the hackers are hacking themselves?

'WHO HACKS THE HACKERS?'

SORNY needs to hire Wario64.

Exact same thing happened when AnonOps originally split off of Anon. In fact, as far as I know they are constantly fighting off DDoS attacks from spliter groups who think that Anon should not be associated with 'Hacktivism' and want Anon to go back to being all about the 'lulz'.

The first Ops info site 'partyvan.info' was compromised years I seem to remember. I still don't go back to PartyVan for fear of what random shit might be on there.

If we believe IRC....and speculation, then it could really come up this week if actions were just to ward off the weekend 'atk".

What side are we rooting for?

everyone's losing right now and it's kinda glorious. aside from the people that just want to play their PS3, which really really sucks. I think the internet drama is consolation though.

This whole thing seems like a game-changer (no pun intended) for sony and online networks in general. We forget that these huge ass networks that store our credit card data and personal info are still relatively new and have kinks we don't know about. It makes you wonder how many other companies are slacking on security just because they don't think anyone is stupid enough to target them. Maybe after this, new security protocols will come out to prevent these kinds of massive attacks.

May 31st eh? That really sucks but eh, what can ya do? Best they spend the time testing and what not so we can see things get back on track. Really sucks for developers losing money off this. I'm sure by next month, it'll be a past thing unless developers start posting their losses. What a crappy year for Sony. I wish them well though for the rest of the year. Don't worry! I'm still getting your NGP if you price it right!

Do you accept encrypted creditcard info? ;) =)

I just wanna say, even with all this nonsense, I've had 2 friends, not in cahoots, buy their first PS3 WHILE PSN has been down. It certainly doesn't seem to be a deal breaker, they're just looking forward to it coming back up. I just thought it was a hilarious juxtaposition to the nerd-centric nay-saying happening on the internet.

Games purchased, Friend 1:
Castlevania
MVC3

Friend 2:
NBA 2k11
Mortal Kombat

That's actually pretty funny. PSN will be amazing for them because a lack of PSN is all they've ever known. :)
