Infamous 2 being free as a result of this is really not that far fetched.

Now, it may piss off a few retailers, but it's not like Sony stuff is flying out the door right now anyway.

Not a chance in hell my friend.
How would Sucker Punch pay their staff if the game was given away.
NO company is that generous.

If it was free then it wouldn't make much of a difference to retails except they wont have to wast space by advertising it or putting the case out on show.

Lots of wallpapers, avatars and a demo - yes
Free £30 game - nooooooo waaaayyy buddy

They're getting paid to NOT get a break. Nobody deserves anything - you get what you pay for. They pay for work done, they get it.

What if Sony foots the bill?

They're going to have to do some serious damage control as it is.

You can't be serious. The services will be down for over a month most likely. You think that's all they will give a way?

No. We will probably get lots of stuff but in regards to infamous2 yea. What else could you get with it.

That's a massive bill. Sony need to make up for lost profits as it is with psn being down.

Personally i'd be very surprised if Sony give us a date. When it comes back on they'll confirm a few hours later to lessen the initial rush on the servers. if they give a specific date chances are it will be switched on earlier, again, to try lessen the load on the servers.

Good thing I bought Yakuza 4 now and not on launch to pass the time.

Not that I really play PS3 games online, I just use it to buy games and send annoying messages to my friends. Now I have to use text messages like some sort of animal :(

Damn so the PSN maybe down during e3? You think they'll talk about it during their conference?

"By May 31" means it can be up early or at the latest, May 31.

Cant really expect them to give free games that are not even out yet. Its ridiculous.

On the other hand, at this rate, the free PS3 games better be full PS3 games, and they should ditch the "you pick 2 out of 5 " and just hand out all 5.

I can agree with this.

I'd really like to choose PoP 2008!

Wasn't there a rumor about Sony possibly retreating the "gift" thing because they claim they are not at fault?

No. It's posted as fact on the blogs, I have no idea if you had a dream, or read a really shitty website.

I don't seer how the May 31 date is new news. They already established the PSN store would go up later in the month. That's the only thing that won't be available when PSN goes up

It's not, a website posted about a phonecall to Sony this morning (Sony iterated what they said before), and everyone decided to run new headlines even although we covered this 8 days ago.

It's just pessimism. People aren't happy unless they're being doom-sayers running around like it's the end of the world.

I heard something like that.

Sony need to entice people to use PSN again and install confidence that it's a safe service, so saying that would be shooting themselves in the foot.

´but it´s a DATE..

Ugh... 'journalism'. What he meant by "fully up" was everything working, PS Store included, and we already know that's not till the end of the month. There isn't any new news here.

Edit: lol, beaten.

Uh, giving out five games would basically be like giving out Infamous 2 or some other full priced game. So, that's equally goofy.

I admit, I'm not that affected by this since PSN is a free service to me and I'll be getting free goodies out of something I've never paid for. But this mess all but solidifies that PSN will be a paid service in the next generation. And THAT pisses me off. =/

It's more the sweeping under the carpet the fact other parts of it were meant to be up first, the deadline of which has already past.

And it may be semantics, but when you move from by the end of the month (implying a bit later than the other services) to actually saying the very last day it's like you are giving yourself absolutely as long as possible. It just doesn't inspire confidence, even more so when you keep missing your deadlines as it is.

They shouldn't give dates or deadlines until they know they can hit it, as it stands they obviously don't know when the work will be done or when it will be ready to roll out. It shouldn't be next week this, or by this date, it should be up on xxx. It's up to them to give people confidence, not more grounds to doubt them.

How is this a problem with journalism? The article included both your "fully" language and the fact that this represents no change in the plan.

I'm bummed that after finally playing and finishing RDR's campaign I can't give the online mode a go.

But I have to say that somewhere in the world, this guy is shouting people drinks in a bar.

You dont see the difference between giving out a game that is not even out yet, Infamous 2 for free, or giving first party tittles that already sold more than enough like Warhawk, WipeoutHD, etc etc.

Hell, Infamous is already on psn store, just give it out as free marketing for Infamous2.

A lot of the headlines are very vague - And these journalists know for a fact a lot of today's readers are just that, headline readers. Especially when it comes to things like posting your headlines on twitter.

Headlines such as "PSN may stay offline until May 31". That suggests no PSN till May the 31st, quite clearly. Where as that is not suppose to be the case and wasn't the message given 8 days ago when Sony said end of May for all service. They said basic PSN up within a week, which has not came about now, however Sony haven't discussed that so a logic of now placing May the 31st for the whole service is not validated.

Of course some blame has to go to people who can't read a fucking article.

May 31st is most likely when it's going to get turned back on at this point. This is truly getting ridiculous now. My fear of E3 passing without PSN just might happen. We'll see another threat of a major attack get published on the 30th and Sony will come out and say "Sorry, we gotta do a bit more testing."

Sure, we're all getting a free month of PS+, but free games are sometimes offered to PS+ members, so whatever free games are offered during that period, that's what we'll get (probably PAIN, Rag Doll Kung-Fu, maybe WipeOut and a random PSone classic, etc.).

Free stuff is nice, but people seem to be forgetting that PSN is a free service and, as much as it sucks, Sony doesn't really owe anybody anything.

I wonder if I'll notice anything different. Its going to be weird when it gets back up, I download a new firmware... and don't see a difference. Of course I don't have a clue as to what they could do but I'd rather have new features then picking from a list of games I probably don't want

Time to bring the PSP comics store to PS3!

This

But aren't we nearing the 3 week mark? This is pretty bad man.

No way they would do that. Giving out free games that expires when the sub runs out... i mean, Sony cant be that dumb.

Normally I would agree with you, but I think they do owe people something for putting identities at risk with stolen data. I mean, it's not all their fault (really, the hackers are to blame), but some small compensation eases the pain a bit. I think some people are getting a little ridiculous with the free stuff they want, though.

There was an implication of online service included as a feature when buying a PS3 or PSP. You're especially up shit creek if you bought a Go, since that's absolutely reliant on the PSN for getting new games.

The new firmware should have the bowing video as the boot-up screen for the first time.

Free month of PSN for PSN+ users had better be upped. At the current compensation rate, PSN+ users almost already lost a month of paid service... if it's not up until sometime closer to the May 31st date, that's 6 weeks of service. I'm going to be grumpy if I'm only compensated 4 weeks time for that.

Giving away games that are old and don't sell any more is very different.

Second to that if we do get a decent game, I will bet it will have a large DLC tie in (e.g Warhawk or Wipeout) just to squeeze that bit extra cash.

PSN+ members get a free day for every day it is down on top of the free month.

Has Capcom said anything about the PSN situation? I hope they change their DRM practice after this mess.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They really need to get with Netflix, too. There's no reason you should need an active PSN connection for Netflix.

That's an awful idea.

How bout a re-structuring of PSN Plus where all free content you get with it NEVER expires, and everyone gets six months free. Current paying users get an added six months free. Complimentary $30 bucks in your PSN Store wallet. PSN store schedule is restructured so that content releases every day, not just Tuesdays. Or even a free Sony bluetooth headset?

Already confirmed in the faq on the blog that plus users will get 4 weeks plus prolonged sub for however many weeks PSN is down.

I have a feeling the 31st is the day they have had circled as the absolute last day they can get it back up. If PSN isn't up until then, I expect a large portion of their E3 conference to cover the issue as well as what each region will be doing to compensate for PSN being down.

Before I expected them to just briefly touch on it.
