I'm very curious on how well the 360 version turns out given the PS3 was the lead platform, and if there are any issues with movie quality ala FFXIII.timetokill said:he's saying the 360 version is, although we haven't seen that version of the game yet. based on how these things usually go, he's probably right that the ps3 is the "best" version of the game, but we don't know what kind of divide, if any, there will be other than the # of discs.
My girlfriend has decided to get LA Noire for 360 because of this mess though for many of the same reasons the other poster listed... she was on the fence about it but this whole PSN mess pushed her to the 360 side.
sk3tch said:It would be pointless for them to remove the ability to edit your DNS servers - because anyone with a DHCP server (i.e. any router) could just define the DNS there and let that propagate to the PS3. Or is Sony talking about running their own DNS and requiring all PS3s to only use that DNS??

To add some context:
- I don't really know or understand the technical stuff that much. All I know is framerate and screen tearing. One is what makes the game stutter or slowdown I believe and the other is when the picture doesn't really line up.
- I have both a PS3 and 360. I use the PS3 for online gaming as I don't want to pay for online. This leaves single player games only.
- I generally tend to buy PS3 games when they're multi-platform because I have an older brother who I occasionally lend games to. I recently bought Assassins Creed 2 on the PS3 because I can imagine him enjoying that. But something like Fallout 3, I understand, doesn't run very well on the PS3 and I can't see him enjoying it either, so I'll likely buy it on my 360.
- I genuinely don't care about little differences. I'm only interested if there's a significant performance difference. Do you know of The Last Remnant for example? It's a 360 game which runs like crap. Now imagine there were two versions of this game and one ran like that, and one ran much better. In that scenario, the version I buy really matters because one is just really bad.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The professor specifically mentioned that although some sites were down for a number of days, explaining the entire situation probably gained them lifetime customers and/or won people on the edge.
The professor mentioned that Sony, on the other hand, continually used vague and imprecise language and refused to detail anything about the situation.

That's what I was thinking, too.sleepykyo said:Isn't a good thing that the professor is using current events instead of reusing some horrendously outdated example?
Solstice said:In a perfect world, that's the way it would be. Of course, in a perfect world, devs would optimize the game for each console, making them equal in the first place.
MoneyLaunderer said:Truth on that one. We shouldn't have to settle for an inferior version of a game. Should be an even playing field.

That blog has a list of all of the games that have been compared by Digital Foundry on Eurogamer, Lens of Truth and IGN Insider. The blog takes the Digital Foundry result as the defining one where the games have been tested by multiple sites, and you can also click the icon next to any of the games to go to the specific article where the games are compared.
For more recent games, you can hover your mouse over the icon next to the game and read a very brief summary of why one version was deemed to be better than the other.

Again, I doubt it would. Fanboys will troll wherever possible, and only the threats of bans in the OT would do that.JaseC said:The idea has some merit, as it would keep the comparison bickering out of the OTs.

Games on Steam can be played in offline mode. Of course online games that use the steam inferstructure like TF2 would still suffer, but most games would probably be fine.LiquidMetal14 said:Imagine having spent over 2k and it going bust. Not that you can't play the games without being online.
Whoops forgot about Capcom crap DRM decisions.

Despite a lot of the shit MS has brought to the console market I am extremely grateful for how well they brought online and social gaming to the forefront.
I could only imagine an online system dominated by Nintendo and Sony *shudders*

At least to Sony's credit, their first party is absolutely dominating this gen as far as I'm concerned and they are just continually investing in new fire. I love that they're not afraid of trying new things and making new hardcore IPs. This is the first gen I think I've ever overall preferred anybody first party offerings to Nintendo, but that is where we're at. It's a remarkable time.
I fully expect Stream to be Nintendo's return to form, though, so I suspect that crown will be Sony's for only a very short time.

ppl wouldn't be able to set ground rules or try and set rules that always favours their console of choice. for example you're only allowed to use 360 non hdd load times etc. - as LoT does.MoneyLaunderer said:If there isn't an OT for this type of topic, there should be. It's relevant for IT classes anywhere, even if there is little to go by right now. Discussing it with other examples is fine. "MIT" or not. Stop being a jackass.
Not if they're not up to date. Wanted to play Portal in offline mode, NOPE.avi, had to sign in and update. And you can't earn achievements while offline, so fuck that noise. :|
