PSN still down, internal testers online in various games though

Demos, or Games on Demand, on Xbox Live are glorified iso files. Once they are downloaded they are instantly ready. No installation required but to put the file(s) in the right directory, basically.

What sort of explanation do you want? I'm not seriously expecting them to give us a detailed post-mortem of the hack and subsequent rebuilding of the network, rife with technical information that would-be hackers could exploit. Not only that, but you'd also have every armchair techie and forum wonk out there reading things into any info they provide. That kind of crap is fine if you're a fan of forum drama and retardation gone wild, but not so great for the rest of us.

I'm fine with 'Hackers found a hole in our security and we're rebuilding our network to eliminate that hole and tighten security across the board. We'll have things back up and running as soon as possible.' Getting the shakes from PS:P2 withdrawal, maybe, but still fine. Though I really hope this doesn't drag on for too much longer. :/
 
I always found the install after downloads annoying. Some times a relatively small file will take FOREVER to install.


Another thing that annoys me with PS3 (and 360) is how you have to wait for the game list to load, I managed to make my PS3 faster at start up by separating the games by type and thus the loading of game icons in the list only starts when you click a folder.

My PS1 classics folder has like 9 games and it takes upwards of 30 seconds for all of them to pop up.

That happens when you have other stuff downloading in the background while installing.

I specifically remember downloading something, I think it might have been folklore DLC? and it downloaded pretty quick but the install took quite awhile for the file size in comparison.

I am pretty sure I did not have anything else downloading at the same time because I usually only download single items at a time unless I bulk download demos.

My first guess was maybe older content on the PSN store used a different(slower) method or compressed the data.

30 second sounds like something is wrong there. I have far more games on the 360 and that loads extremely fast... well, compared to 30 seconds :/

. Look, I said when it's up. Of course you can't buy things from PSN yet but if you buy the prepaid cards then you can make sure the money gets to Sony as soon as possible. Every bit helps.

I have no idea how it applies to his "we should be nice to Sony!" stance, nor his friends supposed optimism, though.

Has Valve ever come out and said anything about this PSN outage? I can't remember them ever really saying anything. Anyways, they had a sale this week at Albertson for Aluminum Foil so I bought two 18 inch by 75 feet heavy duty tubes. Being I have all this tin foil to play with (and I'm 12), I started getting this strange idea that the extra down time was to add full steamworks support on top of PSN hence the reason why Valve is staying mum (never mind the assumption part). What are the chances of this happening?

I vote for optimistically slim

Chances are better that Sony would come out and announce that Steam has replaced PSN. Just like that, they'd have a a more feature-rich service, free of all the clunkiness of PSN, and, best of all, Sony would have minimal involvement in it.

In reality, though, I bet Valve is trying to distance themselves from Sony as much as possible right now. They don't need any of this PR disaster spilling over into their downloadable service.
