Has Valve ever come out and said anything about this PSN outage? I can't remember them ever really saying anything. Anyways, they had a sale this week at Albertson for Aluminum Foil so I bought two 18 inch by 75 feet heavy duty tubes. Being I have all this tin foil to play with (and I'm 12), I started getting this strange idea that the extra down time was to add full steamworks support on top of PSN hence the reason why Valve is staying mum (never mind the assumption part). What are the chances of this happening?

I vote for optimistically slim

Chances are better that Sony would come out and announce that Steam has replaced PSN. Just like that, they'd have a a more feature-rich service, free of all the clunkiness of PSN, and, best of all, Sony would have minimal involvement in it.
That should be their big E3 announcement

Well, if you include them in the discussion, you need to start considering all their other shortcomings as well. :P I guess it's hard to discuss specifics when not much is known about the underlying file systems and content delivery solutions... But yes, the PS3 does have an inelegant solution. Would've been much better if the console could unpack downloaded stuff automatically after the download's finished.

Actually it does the auto install when you download through the store (one at a time).
Only when you choose background downloading it needs to de-bubble.

Stupid and annoying

XD

Has anyone noticed this crackle ps3 browser thing they have up? Is it old news?

Went through their selection, and its ok. Has gems like Hokuto and GE999, nudity and all.

some strange "news"

In a surprising turn it appears that the continued PSN outage has had absolutely no affect on the sales of PS3 consoles themselves.

In fact according to ******** the PS3 is currently the top selling console on the planet and is outselling the Xbox 360 by around 20 000 units a week.

This entire advantage can be put down to Japan since the 360 is winning in America by around the same margin that the PS3 is outselling the 360 in Europe but since the Japanese appear to hate the 360 then the 20k extra units sold in Japan for the PS3 is keeping it ahead.

This either shows a huge amount of belief in Sony that they will resolve their PSN and data integrity issues or that the majority of people really don’t care about online access at all.

I'm sure Lazy Gamer is a very credible source, what with their fine journalistic writing, such as:

Mhmm.

yeah.. you are probably right.. lazy was a dead giveaway..

Woke up, read this:

My friend always said people in stone glasses can't through houses. He was right in many ways even though he was wrong in the head; I knew what he meant. You could learn a thing or two about optimism from him

Died.

Sony's had less bumps in the road than most other platform holders and this is the thanks you show them? I've been angry about this as much as the next guy but it takes a sane person to know when to push and when to forgive. I'm going to do my part by spending $80 on PSN when it comes back up and I suggest you do the same... I suggest everyone of the 77 million users do the same. Imagine what 1.6 billion dollars can do for a company like Sony after this kind of crisis. We should all be thinking about what we can do to help. If Sony goes down, could you seriously live with all those lost jobs on your head? My friend always said people in stone glasses can't through houses. Ah so this is why you were so sensitive about me criticizing Sony executives the other day.

I'm going to try my best to break down okenny's amazing post:

Holding this opinion requires such a massive amount of cognitive dissonance that I'm frankly surprised your head is still in one piece.

okenny said:

Thanks, Sony! Thanks for shutting down online play for more than three weeks. Thanks for inflicting massive economic damage upon a wide range of developers. Thanks for suing a hobbyist and setting this whole thing in motion. Thanks for spending years boasting about the PS3's impregnable security, when it turns out you left the key under the doormat. Oh, and thanks for allowing my personal information to end up in the hands of god-knows-who.

Actually, I don't think I've seen a more blatant Sony apologist in my life.

okenny said:

And this is not the time for forgiveness. Especially as Sony continues to indefinitely push back the goalposts for service renewal. A sane person would be flipping mad right now, actually.

What could possibly make you feel like you owe Sony? This is some Stockholm Syndrome-type shit here. Also, good luck giving Sony your $80 when all your funds get mysteriously transferred to Russian banks.

If I were to follow your advice in any capacity, it would be out of pity for third parties. Sony can suck it.

Correction: you should be seeking help.

How would this be our faults, again? For not throwing copious amounts of money at a company that doesn't have our interests in mind?

Your friend sounds infinitely wiser than you.

And a total non-sequitor, just to top it off.

I hope Sony understands what we mere mortals understand as "a few days" this time.

Hint: Boy it's sure been a few days since Monday.

Great, and now they're going to spend another week just trying to work out what a dew days are.

Edit - Damn you to hell! lol

Trying to decipher what "a few days" are:

Code:
Few = not many but more than one.
           |
           |
Many = constituting or forming a large number.
                                             |
                                             |
Large = Of more than average size, quantity, degree, etc.
Doesnt seem to be easy to find a clear answer hehe :\

They're quoting the chartz of VG, so.. yeah, no

I still don't think the drop-off will be as huge as some people think. Obviously they are going to lose sales, and maybe take a bit of a hit for the next 3 months or so, but if anything I reckon the 360 will get a boost (from trade-ins) rather than the PS3 necessarily dip.

We'll see. Presumably no updates at the moment?

It's easier when you consider the "at least" before "a few days".

So the answer is: sometime next week

Yeah, that will probably be the case indeed :\ I still have hope for this week, but i agree that "at least a few days" doesnt sound to promising that PSN will be up this week.

I forgot the "likely" bit too.

Full quote: "it will likely be at least a few more days"

:D
