Are these PSN IDs actual consumers or is this all internal testing?

Looks to me like they're internal testing judging by the names of the ID's. I seriously doubt they are end consumers doing the testing.

"I would be lying if I said the problems with PSN hadn't caused us some problems," Kei Horono, a staffer at From Software, told the tech site CVG. "But we are in contact with Sony and are aiming to meet a street date of October 11." Horono was talking specifically about a video game called Dark Souls – the follow-up to cult favorite Demon's Souls. He did not provide further details.

Over at The Escapist, Logan Westbrook say it makes sense that From Software has been hit especially hard by the PSN outage. "Dark Souls has the same punishing gameplay as Demon's Souls but has a much more robust online component," Westbrook writes. "With this in mind, not having PSN available for several weeks must be playing havoc with From's development schedule."

General news i guess. So hyped for this game, don't be missing dat street date! xD

I own every console their is, and have done so for a very long time. I'm not loyal to any one company although I have strong Nintendo leanings as I just plain like their first party games better.

I own a launch day 60GB PS3.

I think when the PS4 launches I will sitting it out until Sony proves that they have learned something from all of this. My PS3 hardly ever gets used - only a handful of exclusives I cared about came out on it. In its favor it did produce the best game ever - Demon's Souls - but on the flip side a lot of games that were multi-platform seemed to get the short end of the stick on the PS3.

This whole Portal 3 debacle has pissed me off to no end. I've been sitting on the game forever with no way to access the co-op content. That's fucking crazy.

Looks like it's all internal, but at least that's something.

I don't know how we'd know if we were in the testing group. I'm going to try to log in now.

Edit: I'm not going to check. It's probably internal.

I figure most Black Ops players on PS3 chose that platform for one or more of the following reasons, in this order of importance:

1) Their friends or clan already play the game on PS3
2) They prefer the PS3 controller over the 360 controller
3) They don't own an Xbox 360, and just aren't interested in buying one
4) They just prefer to buy their multiplatform games on PS3 for some reason... I'm sure many of these folks exist.

I feel like those factors would outweigh the waiting a few weeks for map packs, at least for average gamers.
The bolded pertains to me pretty much. :) I think you could probably add free online in the mix. That can't hurt. Well, it hurts now that PSN is down...

What's funny is , I booted up GGPO for the first time in two years this week to get some gaming in, and nearly everyone there said they were only due to no PSN.

Many of those folks are getting ready to jump also.

The ones trading in are a very small percentage of the userbase. As a whole, most people are just frustrated and still waiting it out. I think Pachter actually explained this best.

They'd better update us today, this is getting ridiculous.

Aye.

Least give us a selection of free PS3 games to look over.

Oh they'll update us today. Here is what it will say.

We know you're anxious to get back online with your PS3 however at this time, we can’t give you an exact date, as it will likely be at least a few more days. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

Well, the good news is that when the PSN is restored, the SOCOM 4 patch featuring the party system will be just around the corner. :D

I really think those messages are rude. I'm more than okay with them keeping their mouths shut.
I don't like the vague updates either but how exactly are they rude? They're certainly better than nothing at all (although admittedly, not by much).

No way they're putting the network back up this weekend, the rush of users would just bring it down again. They're probably going to roll it out slowly for certain countries and during non-peak hours.

I really don't think anyone who is taking action at this point is a moron. I don't get much time to play games with work and studies but it's still a semi-important part of my day (the people who are like "lol go outside" can fuck off too). It's part of my routine, I use it to unwind, so if I see Sony bumbling around for weeks with no end in sight I may decide that the $300 for another system is a wise investment.

A week? Shit happens. Two weeks? Okay that's a while but things will be righted. Three weeks and counting? Just terrible. Honestly, if they hit four they might as well not even bother.
you just reiterated the exact thing you quoted from me. People taking action right now ARE morons still.. a $300 system plus $xxx investment in games is foolish to throw away over three weeks of downtime. BUT, you are showing the other side to what you quoted from me. That there ARE sensible people (yourself included seemingly) who ARE starting to question sony's ability to do anything with this in a reasonable manner. sooner than later, brand trust will be lost... but if it's up tomorrow, or even next week, I really don't see the long term damage happening by you or any of the other sensible people fed up with this and questioning sony's ability to resolve it. that point could come... I just don't see it happening with a sensible individual (with significant financial investment) over 3-4 weeks of downtime. Assuming you have your PS3 for 4 years.. that's 48 months of which it's down for 1 month... 98% uptime is still REALLY good. I'm just not seeing a reasonable person selling it all at a loss because of that. Eventually the breaking point will happen (in theory) for reasonable sensibly minded people.. I just can't believe 3 weeks (or even 4) is that point (provided it's up next week or at least a firm "it will be up in two days" at some point next week)

They're going to get a rush of users regardless, it's not like they don't have an existing network that has been handling regular user traffic, their top priority is to make sure it's safe and get it up and running asap.

but why would "internal testing" require some guys to play like 7-8 hours of Socom..?

Well, if they really rebuilt PSN from the ground up they have to test absolutely every feature and possibility, do all sorts of latency tests and what not. I would think that might take even more than eight hours...

Does seem to confirm the working round the clock statement though, the top account was online pretty much since tuesday night.

"Hey boss, no, I'm just testing the network... yes, testing."
Jokes aside, that seems reasonable to me. Sure, 8 hours might seem excessive, but what's reasonable? It's not like testing this is as simple as "Did you connect? Were you able to successfully play one session? Okay, that's a wrap! It's working perfect now!"

Quit making up excuses for them. It's been like this for over a week now.

People were in the right to take action the second they realized Sony fucked the pooch with their info and then waited so long to reveal the extent of the problems

a 3 week downtime for a system as large as PSN just continues to show their ineptidude but most inforgiving is the compelete and utter lack of information.

I'm not going to chuck my PS3 in the garbage or anything (portal 2 is too awesome for that) but I sure as hell am not going to reward or feel bad for the poor multi billion dollar organization

I think if you were familiar with my stance throughout this ordeal, you'd find that I'm hardly making excuses for anybody. That was in no way meant to rationalize why the network is still down. However, I was explaining that one user's account playing SOCOM for 8 hours is hardly extraordinary given the circumstances.

Single player campaign. Hopefully.

You want to know the real reason why it's taken so long to announce Warhawk 2/Starhawk?

Singleplayer only.

No, I didn't stutter or mis-say. SINGLE. PLAYER. ONLY.

PSN downtime just gave Sony a reason to finally announce it.

"Hey, guys, our wonderful SINGLEPLAYER game will be out during the PSN downtime. You can buy it and play it and wish it was online! Sorry it took four to five years, we were waiting for a time like this to announce it! Peace out!"

I'm kidding of course.

I work for a national ISP, and have had

1. Alot of calls of people asking how it can still be down then saying they are selling their ps3. Obviously this purely out of frustration so I take it with a grain of salt.

2. About 4x as many calls as normal with assisting customers getting their xbox connected to their router. About half of those stating they were ps3 users but bought a 360 to play CoD since psn has been down for so long.

Fact is, there is a very large group of people whose primary entertainment (sometimes it's their only entertainment) comes from playing online shooters. Taking that away from someone for over a month is going to turn some of them against you.

Sounds good to me!

Oh come on, it's not like the PSN won't be back up when Starhawk ships.

Right?
until we see how the new network stands up to subsequent attacks (which seem likely) i'm not going to get too excited about playing anything online on the PS3. fortunately my next PS3 purchase is going to most likely be single player anyway so as long as i can download my DLC stuff i'll be happy.

somebody played Killzone 3 online this morning

That's honestly surprising to me. I know people love them some CoD, but I didn't think they loved the game that much. :lol

Personally, the PSN outage hasn't affected me since I mainly game on X360. I'm just hoping it's back up by July when I get NCAA 12 for PS3.
