I understand that the online bit for PSO ends on April 1st. But I've also heard that there are private servers that can be accessed for free. This sounds like a cool idea, simply because of the online-only content you won't be able to get otherwise (holiday rappies, gallon's shop, etc).

Are free servers legal once a game is no longer being supported by its company? If so, what would be involved as far as setting up your own server for online play?

Iv'e heard of these servers. Try the GCN PSO board on gamefaqs. Its active and *gasp* has intelligent members. (btw, theyre really shutting down the gcn pso severs? *runs to read about it*)

Is the US PC version of PSO Ep IV Blue Burst still being supported? That one was never released in stores, right?

I think Blue Burst is still supported, but I read something recently about PSO GC and PSOX being shut down on 4/1/07.

I mainly just want to be able to access the gallon's shop and do stuff like item merges, but it may be too involved for someone like me to get up and running.

PSO I & II and III for GC are going down. Blue Burst and I & II for Xbox are still going for the time being. I imagine Blue Burst will last a little while, but I imagine I/II for Xbox will be going down sooner rather than later.

The long and the short of it, is that he made a trolllish post of his situation today, which wound up somewhat contradicting a very similar (except in key details) post he made yesterday.

The kicker? The new story was obviously troll-bait, considering that he started a new (redundant) thread about it, when:
a) He knew that there was an official thread for such matters already
b) Said official thread was already on the front page due to an earlier bump
c) He POSTED in that official thread yesterday (the original story)

I would think probably not since BB is still purchasable/playable online, whereas I/II/III on GC won't be anymore.

FYI the official PSO GC servers will be going free for the last fewmonths before they shut down. not positive when this starts though, check the PSOW front page news (archives if its not on the fron page somewhere).
