I already have for the last batch of awesome games. Anyone have any links to impressions, testing, etc?

The new PSP Giga Pack can now be found at brick and mortar locations and online retailers nationwide. The $299 SKU includes a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, battery pack, AC adapter, USB cable, and an all-new PSP stand.
The item has been seen at several retail locations, including Wal-Mart, and currently ships in 24 hours at online retailers like EBGames.com.

The Giga Pack will be released for a limited time during the holiday season next to the existing $249 Value Pack.

I hope it's true, i don't believe it tho:)

I don't believe it either. Another TIFF exploit? Seems unlikely, Sony will have upgraded libtiff to the latest version in firmware 2.50 just to get rid of the exploit that "plagued" 2.0.

I don't see what you did here.

Limited time... wtf? Surely this should not be a time limited thing, it should be replacing the Value Pack? Or is it just a case of the Christmas Special Offers, and they'll go back to gouging people on memory stick prices afterwards.

No. The Giga pack will be silly as the memory stick prices continue to drop. What they'll do is drop the price of the value pack soon enough and let you get your own damn memory stick.

battery pack 16 hours of play!! anyone?

edit - Eh, skirting the rules on this one...

So, is there a nice easy way to go from a 1.0 JP PSP to a 1.5 JP PSP without the use of a game?

Did all the emu authors drop off the face of the map? They just stopped in August....
A lot of them seemed to be students...so a drop off just before the start of a new school year makes sense.

probably explains why humma stopped working on umd emulator
The timing really makes that seem possible...

I mean, he posted his intentions directly following the release of GTA. That's a pretty big tip-off...

There's a new art installation in London based on the social act of playing PSP games and the "forms" people take while playing them. A bit different.

A few things I've noticed today:

Best Buy is now selling the HD and X2 battery in stores. Was pretty surprised to see them selling such a big ticket accessory. No price tag that I could see, although the X2 by itself is fifty bucks.

I also saw (in much plainer packaging) a combo accessory that was basically a cheap piece of plastic on a hinge of some sort, with a standalone rechargeable battery brick that plugs into the PSP. The only company label I saw was Datel, and there is absolutely no info as to what mAh rating the battery has. Anybody have an idea on where I could find more info on it? (Bestbuy and Datel both don't seem to have anything).

It's the only combo battery brick + stand item I've seen, and the size of the battery tells me it could possibly be a 4200 mAh one, which would be a reasonable deal for thirty bucks. Pelican's brick not only heats up rather dangerously at one end, but only gets you one and a half charges in practice. My brick also seems to make a high pitched noise while charging sometimes...

I've got a JP PSP which i've updated to v1.50 US firmware. Unfortunately, when I try to update to v2.00 or 2.5 JP and US firmware i get an update screen with no visible text but X and O icons at the bottom. I'm thinking my psp might be fubared by the cross region firmware update but I'm hoping its still possible to update. Can anyone help me out?

If possible can someone at least give me a step by step instruction on what buttons to press in order to update. Perhaps, if i can press the right buttons in order i might still have a chance. Thx.

reset your PSP settings.

Hey guys,

I recently re-purchased a brand new ceramic PSP on toysnjoys.com. Lucky for me, there's absolutely no flaws (including any dead or stuck pixels) and I'm very pleased that I can finally play Lumines again (har har).

This time, however, I am seriously interested in learning how to convert all of my video files on my computer onto my PSP, but there is one problem... I'm on a mac.

iPSP and PSPware suck, IMO. PSPware doesn't *convert* the videos and iPSP is sketchy and shit. Why would I want to drop a few bones on a liscense for either of these things when I can't even find a reliable application to convert all of my files? *sigh*

Is there any mac PSP users that can reccommend me a STABLE application to convert all of my files, and where I can go about downloading it? Reading 48965034954830 pages of this thread intimidates me. Sorry.

Thanks in advance.

My firm just cut off access to psp-hacks. Other than that and pspupdates, where do folks go for PSP stuff?
I generally found PSPUpdates to be the best at covering the legit homebrew stuff. But there's also places like http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk and http://www.pspgarden.com that seem to do a good job. The former is almost a mirror image of PSPUpdates on many days and the latter is more of a news aggregator from a number of PSP related sites.

For Mac users, try ffmpegx. It has a PSP setting.

Handbrake will rip DVDs for you, too.

Going to Versiontracker and searching on PSP will reveal more stuff as well.

Can someone please link me to the original PSP Video encoding thread on GAF? I bet that old thread could give me a lot of help for what I'm trying to do.

Found on pspupdates:

Firmware 2.0 WiFi Demo for PSP

Fanjita has emailed us his latest breakthrough for PSP firmware 2.0, a WiFi demo (WiFi homebrew on 2.0 has not been done before now.) For those who do not know Fanjita continually works and updates his Eboot Loader for PSP firmware 2.0, which allows an ever-increasing number of homebrew to be played on your PSP with firmware 2.0. This includes work from Abu, Saotome, PSPPet. With this new (and great release) here is what the excited author had to say:

“I'm pleased to announce that after a lot of hacking, I finally managed to get my first working wifi app running on v2.0 firmware, under the EBOOT loader.

It's very far from being neat and tidy (if you thought the original loader exploit was inelegant, you won't like this one), but it does work.

At the moment, the only thing that runs is a heavily-modified version of PSPPet's wifi sample application, but it's not a large step from here to being able to load generic wifi apps into the loader.

I am gonna buy Socom PSP. Does anyone know if it can run under 1.5 or am I gonna have to upgrade the firmware just to play it :(

Try it through UMD emu.

I play Most Wanted, Kingdom of Paradise and Infected all on 1.5, without the WAB version changer just using UMD emu 8c.

Just booted up X-Men Legends II for the first time using SXT's version changer. Finally I have something to play on my PSP that isn't Lumines or emulators. :D

Holy cow!

I see from the various psp news sites that there's now a firmware loader, so that you can load later versions of firmware from the memory stick. Sounds like the kinks aren't all worked out yet, but this could be the magic bullet for homebrew + later games.

Anybody try it yet?

The post above yours refers to one such firmware loader, as do any posts that mention the WAB Version Changer. :)

They've been around for quite a while, actually.

I thought the version changers prior to this were just changing the string which identified the firmware. No? This seems to actually boot the PSP with a different version of firmware.

Anyway, it sounds like it's not all there yet, but it's very cool.

If you don't want to play, you don't want to play....
There are alot of good games for the PSP.

I am thinking about upgrading firmware from 1.5 to the latest mainly because of the built in browser, but can I comfortably browse GAF forums (or other forums) with it?

I can understand that big pictures will mess things up, but how capable is the browser?

The browser's fairly decent (GAF works on it), except for the fact that it still uses the PSP's built-in retardedly-stupid input method. So it's fine as long as you don't want to actually enter any text.

Other reasons you may want to upgrade to the latest (version 2.60) firmware include support for podcasts and support for WMA format audio.

(still wondering if avc busts the battery life moreso than MP4...that's about the only thing keeping me from pulling off the update right now)

it's a pity the snes emu isn't still progressing, though...

I upgraded to 2.6 today and was happy with the browser.

Does anyone know if you can edit a html file and add bookmarks to it instead of typing every adress into the PSP browser and bookmark them on the PSP.
