PSP games are too much money

$59.99 is too much for a 360 game as well, but what are you going to do? Pay the fee, wait for a pricedrop, or find another hobby.

I signed up for Gamefly. I'm not going to spend $60 on a game. I bought PDZ for $20 and Kameo for $30, everything else is coming through the mail. A new game a week seems pretty sweet to me.

Do what I do, wait for a price-drop or hang around ebay for a good deal. I don't have a problem waiting for a game to drop in price, 'cause it's not like I only have one game to play/buy anyway.

Portable game prices have always been shit.

Because there was no competition for Nintendo, so it was common to see $29.99 GBA games, and not at all uncommon to see $34.99 games too; depending on where you shopped.

As I said in the past, Sony's biggest impact in the portable market will be in the form of budget priced portable games. A move Nintendo was simply too greedy to make until recently.

I'm not comfortably with PSP game prices, but like I said - portable software has always been overpriced.

And I'm sure someone will come in here in five minutes and suggesting buying whatever bullshit Nintendo has on sale first week of release at Best Buy for a discount; but the fact of the matter is - those aren't the games I'm interested in playing. And the sensible rebuttal is get a Gamecrazy MVP card. Their used PSP prices are quite nice indeed.

There's also eBay.

In my point of view 49$ would sound good for console games and 29$ would sound just right for portable games.

BUT reality is that you people will buy the games at 59$ and 39$ so why would they try to sell them for less?

Hey guys, PSP games are 49€ here. GBA games were 55€ when they came out, no wonder nobody bought that thing in europe.

95% of XBLA games aren't even 1/10th the quality of polished retail portable title and you pay $10 or sometimes more for most. To me the high prices of XBLA software actual make portable DS/PSP prices seem more justified.

XBLA games aren't polished and cost $10, therefore $40 psp games are more justified?
... what?

what happens if you throw PS2 / Xbox games into this comparitive appraisal?

Oh dear, I think I'm part of the problem then. But to be honest I don't really mind paying the higher prices, because for the majority of this year I have found portable gaming to be far more satisfying than console gaming, but then I have been finding console gaming a bit flat this year, outside of a few games nothing has really excited me.

Maybe once I get into the next-gen I'll become a bit pickier about handheld game prices, but for the moment, considering it's where the majority of my gaming is taking place, I don't find the prices to be extortionate.

I've found a shop here in Singapore that sells PSP games (new releases) at $60 SGD ($37 USD).
Not sure how much the DS games are, since I rarely buy any and when I have in the past, they were while I was in Japan.

Other than the ports of existing console games, what games on portables are really that impressive and worth while? That's the crux of the problems with portables right now IMO. If you want something that's worth the money charged, it's a port of a game already out on consoles. But they don't have anything cheap but fun that can be considered a good quicky fun.

NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO SIT IN THE TOILET FOR 4 HOURS AT A TIME RELIVING OUR OLD CONSOLE EXPERIENCES! That's not only a total waste of time IMO, but really bad for your rectum (dried up poop particles = bleeding a$$holes FTL).

PSP and Xbox 360 game prices are too much. I will never buy a $60 game or a $50 handheld game. Until they drop prices down to a reasonable level I'm sticking to game rentals and ebay for my PSP/Xbox 360 games.

$40 for a 2D sidescroller that was originally created in the 80s is absurd. :lol

I have faith in Sony. Unlike Microsoft and, esspecially, Nintendo Sony knows how to lower prices on software that doesn't sell. I believe it because Sony is the most capitalist of the bunch. I wouldn't be surprised if they had graphs and advanced theories of how games should be lowered in price.

If Sony are the most capitalist, they certainly aren't doing a very good job of it. :p

Over in the UK most new handheld games are priced similarly to their console brethren(ÂŁ29.99 - ÂŁ34.99ish from shops). I've just resorted to importing most of my titles, unless I absolutely can't wait to play the game.

I'd say ÂŁ25 would be a fair new-game price, and sub ÂŁ19.99 for stuff older than 2 months.

No shit. That was one of the things that has prevented me from making PSP purchases since day one. Yes, I realize that development costs are similar to console costs, etc. etc. But I do not care. That's not my fault. They should've thought about that before they blew all that money on a freaking handheld game.

And yes, DS prices are starting to get on my nerves, too. They haven't quite annoyed me as much as PSP prices, but I absolutely will not pay $35 for Star Fox. **** that. I paid $35 for New Super Mario Bros. like a douchebag and won't make that mistake again. DS games should be $30 max, $25 being the median price.

the absolute worse were the NES Classics Series for the GBA - singular games that could fit into a compilation being charged at full price GBA price.

Donkey Kong nes for the GBA was the biggest rip off, not even arcade perfect, dubbed down NES port :(

Handheld games are too expensive in general. I'm just being a cheap ass though, most of the games I grab I gladly pay the price for. Nintendo needs to go full force with the bitGenerations titles and offer them for $5 - $10. Sony's Greatest Hits lineup is certainly a step in the right direction.

If you are in the USA, I saw NSMB at Costco recently for only $29 new.

That's a nice little savings. I think I may spring for it, as I seriously doubt the price will drop for a while on that puppy.

Oh, and for me the sweet spot for portable games is $20. I was so happy when Nintendo started selling $20 GBA games. They need to step up the diversity and re-issue more games under that price point.

That said, I have 4 PSP games bought and I don't even own a PSP. All but one were less than $10 new on clearance. The sole full-pricer was Gradius Collection. Even that one, I got for $29 ($10 less than most other stores) at Game Rush.
