Strange, i gave converting Ridge Racer 4 another shot; and worked this time around by using the original .bin format rather than transforming it as an ISO.

Heres a quick screenie for Isamu :P :

Oh man, now I have to buy a PSP.

Yea, this is the best handheld news in several years.

I'm buying an older firmware version psp someone doesn't use for very cheap. Can't wait for a downgrader.

I played some SOTN on my PSP all day today, waiting at the restaurant, playing on the go...oh man so sweet. And it works perfectly, perfect framerate, all sound effects and music...just ****ing wow

My concern with this emulator is multi-disc games. Some games don't allow you to save before switching discs, which can be a problem. Can we get a list of these problematic games? I think Chrono Cross and MGS are gonna be problems because of this...too bad, since both of these games kick ass.

I said it before, but this accelerated my PSP-re-rebuy. Ordered that ****er quick.

MGS:PO = the 300 dollar game. This nutty homebrew = magical icing.

Now to dig up old games. :lol

It's great news for me because I can now play some of these JP only PSX RPGs I have laying around on the go, assuming they work anyway.

Supposedly the only wrinkle is when it comes time to swap discs

Most RPGs prompt you to save before a disc swap so it's not a problem.

Man, I need to get one soon so I can play Growlanser on the go.

MGS asks you to save before switching disks.

That and im pissed converting a PAL Castlevania: SotN to a NTSC version isn't working for me. Which means i put up with a horrible screen ratio.

Just found this thread and all I can think is HOLY ****ING SHIT.
MERRY ****ING CHRISTMAS PSP OWNERS :D

I can't wait to try this out.

So any complete details as to what to do?

Right now my 1.50 has devhook witha bunch of firmwares on it.

Does upgrading to this custom firmware overwrite the 1.50?

I really would like a portable version of "Umihara Kawase".

is there a way to have multiple saves? I think it overwrites it when i play a new game
They aren't being overwritten, for some reason it only shows the last game you played in your save data utility but all the saves are stored on virtual memory cards in your SAVEDATA folder.

I came into this thread expecting the official PSP emulator by Sony... guess not. Eh, doesn't matter I guess, still awesome for PSP owners.

Oh, it's their official emulator and it runs WONDERFULLY. It's just people hacking in their own little pieces of game!

Just a heads up on MGS, if you are using the analog nub to move Snake, its kinda weird having the dpad left and right to access your inventory with the triggers just quick equip/remove. I wish there was a way to map the L2 and R2 buttons to the triggers when using the analog nub for movement. Otherwise one of the control presets is using the dpad to move and the triggers to be L2 and R2.

EDIT: I ripped my own SOTN and the music plays fine.

here's my list of successes today:

- silent bomber
- castlevania: sotn
- jumping flash
- bust a groove
- einhander

these are pretty much 100% perfect. it's so ****ing nice to play silent bomber and einhander on the go. these games have aged very well on the PSP screen... if i were to play these on my HDTV it wouldn't be as flattering. if any of you are on the fence, i suggest you flash to the latest custom firmware NOW.

sony could have done so much better in the handheld race if this PS1 support was there from the beginning. now the hackers get to take all the credit. :lol back to dusting off some oldies but goodies.

seriously - this is the most awesome thing EVER.

I'm already planning on emptying "the cupboard of death" and finding all the games i have and just ripping them all onto a big disk array.

The time to buy 3-4 huge drives has come... :)

Little Ralph, Internal Section, Einhander, Harmful Park, WIPEOUT 20FRIGGEN97 on the go...

There is the worlds biggest party going on right now - it says sony are hosting, but when i walked in , Sony was round the back of the house crying.... seems a tad unfair... And Capcom, Konami, Square Enix, and a load of others were shouting at her.... what was that all about?

Great party Sony!

Sony's party fails again. :(

If sony has a brain, they will flood the market with everything they have ASAP and open a PSP store. :lol

I guess it isn't THAT big a deal since motherboard B can't run anything.

games i tried and that worked:

-Bushido Blade (hard to play without R2 and L1 up at the same time)
-Pepsiman
-Ore No Ryori (you cant really play, but it runs)
-Soul Blade (slowly)
-Tobal 1
-Tobal 2
-Gran Turismo 2 arcade
-Gran Turismo 2 simulation
-Castlevania SOTN
-Vagrant Story

im gonna try Alundra 1 and 2, Incredible Crisis, Valkyrie Profile, Ehrgeiz, and Brave Fencer Musashi later on tonight

uhhh what?

1) who is going to pay to download games now? (obviously lots of people... but...)
2) aren't 3rd parties who were planning on porting old games or selling them on the PS store going to be utterly seething at sony for this? Poor security and now they literalyl just handed the hacking community an A grade PS1 emulator.

As utterly amazingly awesome as this is, you've got to think that people are going to be pissed. Sony are going to be pissed, and people are going to be pissed at Sony (companies i mean).

Obviously, we are all as happy as pigs in shit, and rightly so! The PSP is the machine that keeps giving. But sony just helped to cut one of their own revenue streams quite badly, and could have possibly pissed off a number of devs.

I mean... who is going to buy FFT now when you can just rip the game from disk?

i will list the games i get to work by the way...

this is so going to be the rebirth of PSOne games - Che - we need to hawl ass around aki and get the disks before they all go screaming back up in price! ;)

I mean... who is going to buy FFT now when you can just rip the game from disk?

People that have a post 2.71 PSP or one with the newer motherboards. Which is a huge, huge number outside of GAFland.

Hmm that makes me think... you guys better emulate as much as you absolutely can tonight, because you just know that Sony is going to do all they can to shut all this down. :(

People with 3.0 PSPs and motherboard B psps, and non-hacker people. :D

It is tough to remember that the outside world is so out of it when it comes to this kind of stuff when you are surrounded by really active video game and tech communities.

It's BAD for Sony, but it was going to happen sooner or later and there's nothing they could have done about it aside from get NSA code people to make their emulator. The PSP has just been a big giant security failure for them.

HOPE THE PS3 IS THE SAME WAY MUHAUHAUHA

it sounds like the newer motherboards aren't too far from being cracked as well. As i said, i'm aware that it's still a huge number, but it's still a significant loss - i mean... i could have probably funded the PS4 dev with the number of games i would have downloaded at 525 yen a shot.

Hence why i feel for sony - they priced things right, and the system was good - they should be applauded for that. I just can't help feeling for them right now, especially when the PSP is so awesome.

actually - i'm surprised how far it's penetrated - talking to relatively casual gamer friends in the UK, they are all "YAARRRing savvy" as far as the PSP is concerned because to them the pain of figuring it out was worth it for free games. Of course, you are right though - the vast majority of gamers aren't going to get this.
HOPE THE PS3 IS THE SAME WAY MUHAUHAUHA

i wonder if games companies are looking at the PS3 and worrying the same thing? Anyways, that's a whole new thread - revel in the awesomeness instead! :)

I think you are underestimating that - pretty much everyone on Gamefaqs (Gamefaqs!) has managed to figure out how to downgrade their PSP and play pirated games, which means pretty much anyone that wants to can (and will).

Pretty much only those with newer models are the ones that can't.

Hmmm, I've got 15+ PSP games that I've played out and can sell to EB. Since I'm likely never to play them again, I might as well trade them in. Here's hoping I can find an F barcode or earlier.
