i like that decided with this. especially now the size of the game can expand. which is good for Square and Kojima ^_^

i'm watching the conference on gamestop. when Kaz showed the NGP i literally was giddle and my heart was racing fast. it's one of those feelings like no other <3

Its on the psn store, right? Do you want a new one? The sequel wasnt as good imo.

Agreed on the sequel. Now that you've reminded me, I wonder how well scaling up from the PSP games will be. That's mainly why I want a new Lumines game: to take advantage of the new PSP2 hardware.

A cool idea was mentioned on the other thread, imagine their was bundle deal thats slightly more expensive that offers PS3 version of a game as well as a download code of a PSP2 version of the same game. The advantage of this would be people wont buy preowned games so they can get the download code for the PSP2 version. Remember Kojima said he wanted the same game to be able to be played on PSP2 as well as the PS3, so you play your game on PS3, but when you decide to go outside you carry on playing the game on your PSP2 on the go.

heck no. i still love my manuals <3

I hope they keep the rectangular case. it stands out a lot.

On the other hand, that's not gonna be cheap. Optical media costs pennies, memory cards costs dollars.

That means higher game prices, and higher amounts of money needed for developers to print up a batch of games. I believe they only have to put up a fraction of the cost (and pay the rest back as the game sells) but still, it's going to be a fraction of a higher number.

There was a lot of bitching here about some titles not coming out on UMD (Cladun and Holy Invasion of Privacy I). Expect a lot more of that (games being PSN only)...

If it was 299.99, there would literally be no reason to buy a 3DS. Other than 3D and Nintendo games, of course. Hopefully, the NGP matches the 3DS in third party support(and by the looks of things, it will).

The 3rd party stuffs seems to be much stronger on the 3DS at this point, and I think it will continue as the development cost is much cheaper.

Everything Sony showed yesterday were 1st party titles, sprinkle in some tech demo ports (Yakuza to the End, MGS4 etc) from 3rd party.

Is this thread 30 pages of people bitching about price points? Who cares, they'll announce a price and you'll either buy it or you'll be too poor and you won't buy it. It's the 3DS all over again. :(
Eh. Don't know if this is partly-directed at me. I'm not bitching about anything. I'm simply armchair-analyzing what I believe to be a pricing challenge for Sony. It has nothing to do with how much I'd personally pay for anything.

Also, "Who cares?" Apparently, many people on a GAMING forum. It's a valid point of discussion, for a device that was just announced, yesterday. Indeed, its price may be the single-biggest determinant of the NGP's success. Gaming companies do gather information from varying sources, including our own little NeoGAF. It can't hurt for potential consumers to publicly express their desire for affordability, which includes letting Sony know that $499 is not affordable for many of us.

When is GDC and E3? TGS is near the end of the year so expect the bulk of the info to be out before that time. That said TGS should hopefully be when we start seeing what all the Japanese devs are cooking up for the game.....then again Kojima will be ready to show his project at E3 so we might get quite a few reveals there and GDC.

Don't really want to start comparisons here but we already know all the big developers besides EA are developing for NGP. All the tech demos, Kojima hinting that his next game is going to be for it, Capcom etc so no the 3rd party support on the 3DS is nothing special. Both handhelds have really good 3rd party support from Japan so it's going be first party which sells the 3DS, 3rd party already has the NGP getting a very large amount of support.

BTW R* are developing, fingers crossed it's Leeds making a GTA game for it, the good one, not Chinatown Wars shit.

Well it depends. I can get great, and I mean really GREAT, prices for new PSP games on UMD from UK. This compared to the PSN wallet-raping prices. So what I decided is that I will buy game son UMD that I want to play right from release (Tactics Ogre) and wait for PSN sales on other titles.

This is all nice and good, but I know that when the time comes I will rebuy some selected titles again on the PSN to enjoy them on that beautiful mouth-watering, pants-creamer screen.

It's too early to say on what console 3rd party is stronger. PSP2 just got announced and I heard Sony is not allowing 3rd parties to unveil their games until E3.

Yeah youre right. Some next-gen visualizer animations would be awesome.

I'm impressed by how the games look but I'm still on the fence about the NGP because of the many crucial details we have yet to obtain. It really seems like something they put together in a hurry. They called in a conference while the handheld is not yet complete and once again Sony pulled the tech demos card. Rumours were saying that developers had dev kits in their hands months ago and yet most of the games shown by third parties were cutscenes and tech demos. I mean sure maybe they are keeping their big reveal for E3 but it made Sony look really bad, as if they had thrown this at the last minute.

Twin sticks is a really good idea as this was one of the main complain about the control schemes on PSP. Furthermore, the Uncharted demo did make good use of the touchscreen and touchpad. On the other hand the cameras look quite gimmicky especially for Hot Shots Golf. The second stick is good enough to control the camera. I can't really picture someone using the cameras to move the ingame camera on a regular basis. Getting rid of the UMD drive is another good thing as games on UMD were often plagued by looooong loading times.

I'm also quite curious to know what kind of storage medium it will use and if the NGP itself has internal storage? I'm not even sure about the kind of cards that will be used to store retail games.

So many parameters still up in the air...
All the information is out there and its quite comprehensive once you go through it, though it appears a lot of it has been lost in translation. Like for example you and many others don't seem to realise it'll be using flash card technology for games. The system doesn't look rushed at all. In fact I'd argue PSP2 looks incredibly well put together like they have been preparing these ideas since the PSP first came out.

Tech demos before launch are just a staple and necessity. 3DS was almost entirely tech demos at E3, most of it was moving a camera around or quick tech demos with DS/N64 assets. The only "real" thing IIIR correctly was Kid Icarus. And if it's Kid Icarus vs. Uncharted I know what I'd put on top.

This is operating under the assumption that stuff like Legends 3 doesn't exist. And I don't like that.

It was a deliberated choice from SOny. They are reserving 3rd party unveils to other venues. Maybe GDC?

I am for sure. I loved the fact that I didn't need to cary anything around with my Go. I like having my boxes and manuals, but honestly, for a portable, I could really care less. The less amount of junk I'm required to take along with me, the better.

Then again, I'm in a very small minority I think. I'd rather just have to cary my one device and that's it, instead of having to cary my device and like 10 different cards/discs/whatever full of games.

Good stuff, GDC is coming pretty soon and hopefully we get some stuff then!

Looks like it, Mario said he was ready to show something and Sony did not show it. Probably reading too much into it but I would say GDC will be when Sony show off a lot of 3rd party support, simply due to 3DS releasing the month after and their aim being to get some of those potential 3DS buyers to hold off for the NGP. It's the usual stuff I want like FIFA, PES, COD etc and just looking at the specs of the NGP we should be able to get something like a console experience on a handheld.

TacticalFox88 said:
The 3DS will only beat NGP in sales. That's pretty much it. I'm still getting both though. NGP=Day 1. 3DS=Redesign

Still have the original DS brick and gosh it's an ugly little bitch. So hideous, my PSP-1000 though is still a looker, the later versions actually look rather cheap to me. The gap between the original DS and Lite is just too big, it's why I'm also gonna wait for the 3DS redesign and get NGP on release.

This is a great post. The whole point of internet forums is to communicate and share what's on your mind.

Part of me justified buying a PSP Go, before the price drop :(, because i could play Monster hunter Portable 3 with a dualshock. Knowing it is PSN BC, what are the chance if any that Capcom will update the software to be able to use that second stick for camera control? I would be in heaven.

Even if it doesnt work out, at least i will enjoy several months if not a year of dual stick Monster hunting heaven regardless before 3G is released for both NGP and PSP.

It'd be nice if this thing was backwards compatible, might have more interest in it if they would let us know one way or another.

D-Pad controls are emulated on to the right stick (maybe an option to emulate face buttons too), so all those games that used D-Pad or face buttons for camera control will work as dual analog games on PSP2. Monster Hunter was shown on the conference with dual analog controls working on PSP2. So you should be happy.

Well the version shown on stage at this event had the controls remapped so the second analog was used.

Keep your PSP, I know I am.

That's fine and all, but there becomes a point when I have to decide on what devices I want to carry on my person, and it would be much easier if that number was smaller.

As it stands, if Sony were to offer me a way to get my games on this device it might convince me to get it sooner, otherwise I would wait till it gets jailbroken so I can transfer my own rips, or until there is a compelling enough library that I can't not have it.

Day one for me I can't believe Sony actually built something for the core gamer after Microsoft and nintendo pandering to casual audience. I was sure they were going to go iPod touch/kinect on us. Hopefully they can hit under 300 but I am doubtful looking at it. I will buy at whatever they launch at but they better try to match 3ds.

BC on the PSP is a weird bulletpoint and is different from people to people.

It is backward compatible, but only if you buy your PSP games digitally. How many people actually buy their PSP games digitally though? Especially seeing how bad the PSPgo sold.

Good moves by Sony:

two analogues. (will get todays big games like COD and make them easily accessible to current userbase)
touch screen (great for portable gaming)
3G ( the handheld of the future, always connected, always online gaming anywhere)
unquestionably good graphics (will absorb higher end dev japanese market)
flash carts (thank you sony for learning from nintendo on this one, loading not acceptable on a portable)

I believe the portable battle is going to be fierce. At least in Japan.
It will be exciting watching the portables duke it out from the sidelines...I will be waiting two years or more before buying a new system.

all we need to know is....PRICE!

edit: and battery life...

Mark my words, portable COD will be a game changer. It will move a lot of units in the west. Especially if the online is as feature rich as it's console counterparts (and 3G access is relatively cheap).

Well it is compatible with the software, same way psp is compatible with ps1. It's just a question of how to get the games onto the system since they lack CD/UMD drives.

Kind of surprised Sony doesn't sell an official UMD ripping tool.

All you guys interested in PSP2 should get a PS+ sub. I have so many PSP digital content through that, its crazy. Tons of minis and PS1 classics. When I get a PSP2, its gonna fill up quick!

That I can't argue with. All reasonable points. But Sony needed to address the "UMD Problem" with this device, and the proprietary flash memory gives them a lot of advantages over the UMD.

I...I must agree. Second analog stick means shooters done right. But will the developers put console-like resources into a mobile game enough to make it COD in the fullest sense of the name? Increased power means increased costs. I wonder if developers (outside of Sony's 1st party) are really going to jump head-first into this thing.

PSP2 w/COD bundle anyone? If they market the game right, it could sell really well in the US. And if its like COD MW3, that will be crazy, sales wise!

Also is there cross-platform MP? Like PSP2 can play on PS3 servers? or was that a rumor?
