They are slowly getting there. Great work.

if we ever get to a stage where I can just plug my PSVR2 into my laptop and play the same way I do with the Ps5, that would be a monumental step up in the worth of the headset.

It means that PC drivers can now be developed.
I know what it means. I'd like to see some evidence that it's real. I can recreate that screenshot in 2 minutes in mspaint. Their tweet is "lol we're not at liberty to discuss" so meh.

Have you never heard of Ivry? Check on Twitter. It's real.

I really don't understand why Sony wouldn't just stay ahead of the curve and simply make it compatible themselves. But I guess they subsidize it quite a bit by tying it to PS5. Still, it could easily become one of the more popular headsets.

cheap VR for PC
here we go batman GIF

Quest 2 exists, though. For cheaper.

How likely is it that sony is making money with the psvr2 per sale?

Very likely. They're profitable with the $499 PS5 and this doesn't have as much tech in it.

They could make quite a decent amount of revenue by porting their first party VR games to PC. Not to mention get more VR ports from PC

I could see them do it sooner or later, depending on the adoption rate among PS5 players. Why reap a 30% cut when you can get 70-100% via their own store, sort of.

One would think that after Betamax sony would have learned.

If I were Sony, not only would I have made PSVR2 be PC compatible right off the bat... I would have also got mindgeek to build an app for the PS5. And priced said app at $30. Would have become the PSVR2 killer app.

Don't they need specific info from each component (sensors, screens, cameras, etc) to be able to write the drivers? (assuming (at least some them) they aren't custom build for Sony).

I think they already have a lot of that information. There does appear to be some customer SOC devices on the PSVR2 hardware so that will need be navigated.

Thing is, the PSVR2 is a much, much better headset, and the Quest's connection to PC can be finnicky.

If you could simply plug the PSVR2 into your PC and game the same way you can with the Ps5, without having to go through all that nonsense with Oculus software, and then Steam Software, it'll be a much better proposition.

I don't know that it will be that simple, PSVR2 uses Virtuallink which has been abandoned by Nvidia. Maybe with an adapter but that kinda goes against the simplicity. AMD GPU owners would be ok though.

Why get PSVR 2 when Oculus Quest 3 is releasing in few months and will use Pancake lens that are much better than Fresnel that are in PSVR2

Do the other specs match up? Oculus tend to use lower FoV compared to the competition. Coming from the Index, I can't accept anything less as even this feels like scuba goggles. How about the screens? OLED? HDR brightness? Eye tracking? There's a lot of next gen hardware behind those fresnel lenses on the PSVR2 that justify the cost. I'd seriously consider it an upgrade path from the Index.

Maybe they are selling it at a loss right now and don't want pc players to use it while not buying their games.

See, if I can use PSVR2 with my PC, I'll probably buy it.
And if I have a PSVR2, I'll eventually buy PSVR2 games.

IMO this is better for everyone. Except my wallet.

Of course the more advanced features will come later if ever, but as soon as this is working with all the basics, I'm going in for the vr mods. Secret best vr library.

At this point, I don't understand why Sony would not officially support it on PC. It would get sales and maybe even some peoples buying a PS5 since it would work for both.

Because i'll never be able to use an Oculus Quest 3 on my PS5 but there's now a good chance I will be able to use my PSVR2 on PC.

It may have to do with security for all we know. Ways to exploit the system type stuff. I'm still keeping 4 eyes out for this.

It appears the devs are having a hard time getting the PSVR2 into VR mode due to blocks. I think this is temporarily dead in the water.

You seem like the king of bad takes.

If the PSVR2 isn't making money on hardware sales (including R&D), releasing on PC right off the bat would have generated pure loss.

Sony needs more than an app on PC, they need content.

To make significant money off of PSVR2 they need to reach economies of scale AND have a PC storefront.

Likely, PSVR2 is in a phase at the moment where it needs to recoup R&D costs and then they'll drop the price to where they're maybe taking a slight loss on the hardware or a small operating profit. This is when they can mature their PC strategy and consider adding support for PSVR2 in a Sony PC Storefront, but they have to have enough titles that they can fill that VR storefront, otherwise, they're just taking a loss on the hardware they're selling to PC consumers with no promise of perpetual income.
