Pub. in Talks For Binding of Isaac 3DS [Update: Rejected Due To Religious Content]

Even though it's cartoony this game would be lucky to get an M rating. I mean vagina's shoot laser beams of doom in this game!

When I first saw that my mouth dropped and I laughed for a good 5 minutes.

Is it true? I mean back in the 16 bits era it was Nintendo that mandated censorship. Mortal Kombat on SNES is the prime example that came in my head. No blood for the SNES version while the Sega Genesis version had blood.

The overwhelmingly negative perception of Nintendo when they forced the censoring on the SNES was the impetus for them to redo their entire content approval process.

And where have you been all this time? This isn't 16-bit, Yamauchi era Nintendo. This is HD era, Iwata-laughing-at-you Nintendo.

I don't know how anyone can think Nintendo censors stuff any more when games like Mad World and No More Heroes exist....
Fixed that for you. The rest of us are still waiting...

BTW: Just to dispel some BS. Nintendo are the only console manufacturer who do not have a concept approval process. They are the the most lenient console manufacturer of the 3 when it comes to offensive content... (They were the ones who allowed BMXXX and Killer 7 to be released uncensored, while Sony mandated censorship...)

Killer 7 was censored on PS2?

Well, just like with all the systems, you have to get approval from the console maker to put your game on it.
Though, yes, BoI does have some content that could be considered offensive (not that Nintendo has cared about that for a long time now).

Understatement of the forever. :lol

They only did that because there was no censorship body in place until the ESRB was founded in 1995 (in a roundabout way by SEGA believe it or not!)

Once the ESRB was established, Nintendo gave up on their censorship policy because it wasn't needed anymore. They are now the most leniant of all of the console manufacturers because they have no concept approval procedure in place at all (this is a procedure where by the console manufacturers stipulate what can and cannot be released on their machine/DD service. MS for example, restrict puzzle games from being released on XBLA since they believe that they already have too many of them, while Sony censor certain games such as BMXXX and the PS2 version of Killer 7 and Sony America prevent direct PS1 ports to PSP or PSP ports to PS3 unless they're either bundled or contain a certain percentage of new content)

Sony muted the moaning during the sex scene.

Wasn't that scene cut entirely from the PS2 version?

you can play as a naked girl with a coat hanger through your head.

so yeah, they probably would have to make some alterations.

I'm fairly certain Nintendo kept censoring stuff for a few years after that, until they fell from the top of the hill and wanted games like Metal Gear Solid that the PS1 was getting.

Nah, they pretty much stopped censoring stuff except a few of their own titles. Killer 7 was pretty much uncesored through and through (like the
dead naked girl bodies scene
) and Eternal Darkness being released just prior.

I don't think they would need to. There's something called "Getting Crap Past The Radar" that Nintendo themselves are kings of. So what if there are disturbing allegories? "Ness, it hurts!" anybody?

Which were both after the PS1/N64 era and long after the ESRB was established. :P

How about naming some examples of Nintendo censorship of 3rd Party games post 1995 then? The easiest example against it could be found in the N64 or GBA Castlevanias. The NES and SNES Castlevanias were famous for being heavily censored (naked women being clothed, crosses changed to other symbols, blood being removed etc) None of the N64 or GBA Castlevania games featured any Nintendo censorship at all.

I would love to see all Team Meat related projects on handhelds. Just seems the perfect fit.. would love to play SMB on the Vita.

I remember when Edmund said that it would never come to consoles. Well, I guess he was right. It won't ;)

If it does manage to come out on the 3DS, do yourself a favor and get it. But honestly, unless you live in some third world country (how could you be posting on GAF anyway?), then you probably have a computer that can run this game.

Maybe I'm wrong. I remember reading about Nintendo's censorship policies and why they dropped them, but that was a long time ago and I can't be assed to look it up again.

But the GBA also came after the PS1/N64 era, so its Castlevanias wouldn't count.

so in this thread:

some of you want Nintendo to approve an offensive game to prove a point

while others want Nintendo to censor it so it can be more to your tastes

while yet others expect Nintendo to outright reject it

?

Okay I can follow those but what does the WiiWare size limit have to do with this topic? Get over Meat Boy already!

Did you read this thread at all? Because that's not what people are talking about.

N64 ones weren't censored either...

Couldnt they just get someone else to port just like the Mac version.

They want to distance themselves from SMB.

Because they want to be known for more than just their namesake?

They also said their next game wont be out for a couple years.. I dont see how they are going distance themselves from it till then. Hell they now have to fix the PC version after that whole super meat world network security problem.

Hey, hey.

You know what this means, right?

Finally, a version of Isaac that runs in something that isn't goddamned Flash!

I don't care if it's Nicalis who does the port, I say BRING IT ON!

Really I thought censorship and wiiware size limits / super meat boy was the major themes ? Break it down for me bro

Nobody wants anything censored, and nobody is arguing that The Binding of Isaac shouldn't be on the 3DS.

We're discussing Nintendo's censorship policies in the past, and whether they still apply today.

Flash is a valid development tool on WiiWare, I don't see why it wouldn't on 3DS.

I could see Nintendo turning this down as it would be an eShop release, as opposed to a retail one. DD would seem to more heavily imply publisher support.

Those are media watchdogs and has nothing to do with Nintendo's publishing policies themselves.
Actually my bad, I saw only the quoted part and not the whole message, going back I can see his was a case more akin to the watch dogs in THINKING Nintendo actively maintained that image with 3rd party games too, and not just first party/core property games.

But, yeah, like said I think most likely if Nintendo rejects it either QA gets in the way or the game is AO worthy, since that's the one line Nintendo doesn't tolerate still (though I guess if the unspoken rule about no AO games weren't so prevalent in NA even that wouldn't be an issue.)
