Public Phone Usage: Ringtone or Vibrate?

Personally I turn it off just because I don't care for the sound of the ring, but unless you're in someplace like a movie theater or library I don't think it's rude to leave your ringtone on in public.

Vibrate only 100% of the time.

I fucking despise people who have loud pop tunes blaring through their 2$ phone speakers at full volume whenever they receive a call.

What the fuck are y'all even talking about. WhatsApp, snapchat and all other messaging apps and texts are set to vibrate.

Calls use a ringtone all the time. Outside of the movies work and class etc.

How are you supposed to take calls reliably without some noise? Walking nullifies vibration.

Vibrate. I hate my phone going off with a ringtone unless I'm at home.

In fact I hate having phone conversations in public, unless they're quicks yes no chats. Especially on public transport

Vibrate and please avoid talking on the phone unless strictly necessary when using public transport.

Specially if you are one of those that, for some reason, talk super loud when on the phone.

Edit: mine is always on silent, since most communication is through e-mail or messages.

How numb are your legs exactly? I've never missed a call and i'm on vibrate 100% of the time.

Also, when seeing "Public Phone Usage" in the title, did anyone else think this topic was about:

Strong vibration. It literally shakes my leg or jacket. It's fast as well so it's really difficult to miss.

Ring tones are just super weird.

My "ring tone" is basically just a regular type that you would expect to hear out of a home telephone (although obviously slightly different from our actual home phone to be able to differentiate them).

My wife has all sorts of annoying music things for her ring tones.
They're obnoxious >.>

If I'm in a meeting, theatre or resturant I'll go silent. Other than that I'm not sure why "courtesy" is an issue.
The fact that you don't know why is troubling. I swear, there should be a high school course that teaches people how to be a considerate human.

Vibrate for calls only
Any notifications - silent.

Maybe I don't have my ear phones in as much, but some people and their cell phone etiquette is infuriating.

Sounds when typing - fuck off no one wants to hear that!
Notifications for text messages - seriously wtf, how fucking annoying is it when someone is texting back and forth and all you hear is that shit.
Loud ringtones almost always equals loud talkers.

I hate hearing this on public transport, or the worst when you are sitting next to someone in a restaurant. I can't even count how many times I've had to ask people to turn down their phones since no one wants to hear those annoying sounds.

I also use a separate ringtone for each of my email accounts so I can tell if it is a work or personal email without looking, both are very short and not loud though.

If the phone is on your person it should be vibrate. I'm tired of hearing of people's beep bopp on public transport.

Only situation ringer is acceptable is at home or at work i.e. places where you leave your phone on a table away from you. You should not have your ringer on in public places, it's just plain rude and destroys the tranquility.

Also shout out to those who have 30 minute phone conversations on the bus. No one wants to hear you talk to a rock. A quick call is okay but you can't noise pollute the whole bus/train for 30 whole goddamn minutes X_X

The music ringtones don't bother me. I enjoy it when I hear a stranger's music ringtone. I get a little insight into what those people enjoy. My ringtones are pretty sweet and I don't really care if the 8 seconds of music bothers anyone. My loud talking on the phone is probably going to be more annoying anyway.

I put my phone on vibrate as well as ringtone because if I am in a loud environment then I don't want to miss a call. I switch it to vibrate in restaurants because it would disrupt people eating. I also remove my hat at the dinner table because it's polite.
