Arcade, the others suck - Super Punch Out (arcade one) was the best
NooooooThis thread got me curious, so I did some digging.
Princess Peach was supposed to be a fighter for a while!?!
Would've been ballsy.
For those of you who haven't already seen it... Iwata Asks: Punch-Out!!

It's ostensibly about the Wii game, but they spend most of their time talking about the originals. Lots of neat info there.
Probably one of my favorite arcade experiences.
The sound on that machine pops, the bright graphics done in mostly primary colors, the taller cab with the static 'versus' graphic. The bright red plunger for your special punch. Altogether it was a pretty intoxicating mix and hard to walk by ... or walk away from.

In 1985, there was just nothing else like it.
OG Princess Peach already had battle damage.Noooooo
You can't show Peach with like, battle damage! That's horrible!
Great franchise. I haven't had a chance to play Punch Out Wii yet.
Don Flaminco can easily be beaten by anyone!
Give him a punch and dodge his counter then left, right, left, right, left, right, left, right, left, right, until he dies!

I assume he meant the 2nd fight. I've had that one go to decision in the past.Indeed. After getting that initial process started, he can literally be beaten with one's eyes closed.
His second encounter is a bit more of a challenge (or at least not as repetitive), but still.
Super-Punch Out!! is one of my favorite games of all time. The gameplay is a huge step up over the original.
I couldn't get into the Wii version since they gimped everything and went back to the style of the first game. Boo.
Fully agree. They even took a further step back and took out the ability to cancel the dodge animation by hitting the opposite direction.
I think Wii Punch-Out!! is highly over-rated.

Super Punchout is the best in the series, followed closely by the NES one. The arcade ones are awesome, but are extremely difficult and play much more loose than the console counterparts.
But anyone who may be interested in a Virtual Boy(god forbid), or at least has access to one, Teleroboxer is the spiritual successor to Punch-out and is hard as nails. A worthy challenge to anyone who considers themselves good at Punch-out.
Loved the one on Wii, such an underrated game with among the best animations EVER.
I hate for Super Punch Out is mindblowing.
It has more of everything that made the original great. More characters, more moves, some of the best graphics you'll see on the SNES, just plain awesome. It also controls better than the original and the visual cues for fighters aren't cheap.
It's a hell of a lot better than the Wii game.
does anybody remember those super in depth NES punch out videos, (youtube?) This guy brought up the convential thinking of how to play but proved us wrong? An example being that you do more damage if you use counter from a certain side and just really articulate things like that.... I can't find em

You would only think Wii Punch-Out!! is overrated, if you like much more Super Punch-Out!! than NES Punch-Out!!
As someone who finds Super the worst entry (not bad, only worst of the good), you can see why I love what Next Level Games did. Same with people you think that overrate the game.
Super is the easiest game by far, the no rounds, and no character intros and dialog, with the inmense amount of clones makes the game just good for me, becuase it mostly takes all the charm anc charisma of the original.
Just to name, how shitty were Aran Ryan and Bear Hugger in Super, and how good and different characters are on the Wii one.
The only thing i dont like much is taking away that special thing Tyson gave to the game, and putting fucking Donkey Kong.
I dont know, the idea is not good. Tyson is impossible to do now, yeah, would have been better something like...
Its a dream fight in the original, so they could have made a little cutscene of Mac watching a Rocky movie on the TV, his hero, and sleep in his couch. So he starts dreaming and turns out that Rocky wants to see in a friendly match why Mac is so good and won the title.
That would bring:
-A cartoony stallone that would be amazing, even if its only someone imitating his voice.
-An amazing remix of the punch-out!! theme with Going the Distance
-This ending would have blow everyones socks off. Just imagine Rocky losing in round 3 and saying "This kid is good Mike, it reminds me when I was younger!" Holy fuck, chills down my spine.
Super Punch-Out!!, well I dont know, some charisma is lost. Not having a stroyline with a trainer for the Little Mac wannabe is a little bit shitty. And too many fucking clones. Apart from people like Dragon Chan or Hoy Quarlow have to go with their legs and stick out of the ring. I want punch-out!! to be as wacky as it can be, even with guys cheatting like Aran Ryan or Masked Muscle (because they do it while the "referee" is suposedly not looking, and you know they are cheating, so they make good villians), but things like slow special attacks with sticks or kick anyone can see a mile away. Fucking come on!
I also like more the heart gameplay, than the charge your super thing.
Also Nick and Rick bruiser suck as final bosses, no charisma, shitty design, fucking clones.
One thing I do like is the trainers for each boxer, that was good and something I would love to see in a future Punch-Out!! by Next level, but make that you can see the trainer, like for example, Gabby Jay being the first boxer for the next game and having Glass Joe as his trainer, the animation gags and jokes would be sublime.
I really wish I had saved them, they were amazing, well instructed, great videos.

Takeda: Okay. Hello, my name is Takeda, the game designer.
Everyone: (roaring laughter)

Iwata Asks is so good but so weird haha.
Is Punchout Wii a decent little workout/way to get the blood flowing? I usually run or play basketball to stay in shape, but less so during the winter. Might pick up Punchout Wii.
