Puppeteer TGS trailer

For those commenting on the lighting

One of the limitations of being set on a stage actually helps out in looks department. Being set on a stage, only a fixed camera is required, freeing up precious CPU cycles to do something else. Moore and his team decided to use this extra power to pump into a virtual full theater lighting rig, which he says lets him do "incredible things." Again, you'll have to see Puppeteer running in person to fully appreciate this, but it absolutely sparkles with its up to 140 fully volumetric lights shining in real time. Spotlights sweep overhead and highlight the action while floods and other effects really sell the stage setting.

I am impressed, the setting looked imaginative but the protagonist's actions are a bit sluggish (I am bit too used to Mario plateformers).

One overwhelming feeling I got from seeing the first trailer (not seen the new one yet) is that that's a game that'll look *phenomenal* in 3D.

The 3D film "Honey I Shrunk The Audience" at the Disney theme parks does a very smart trick; The storyline is that the audience is watching an award presentation (with the little handwaveyness that the 3D specs are 'protective goggles!), and to serve that purpose the camera is fixed throughout the show, so it helps preserve the theme that the audience is actually present in the auditorium. A roving 3D camera would break that theming, though; at that point you're "A person watching a 3D movie", not "A person watching an award presentation".

The camera isn't *completely* static, but all the movement it does is *entirely* true to the storyline of the show. There's no cuts to other cameras. The audience is actually *there* in a way that makes sense.

(SPOILERS FOR TERMINATOR 2: 3D AT THE UNIVERSAL PARKS:
One of the things that annoys me abut T2:3D is that it starts out like that but abandons it about a third of the way through. If you're going to go with that style, *stick with it*. It gets worse at the end, where if you work on the premise it had at the start of the film, the audience dies at the end!
)

Puppeteer seems to stick with that idea: Everything makes sense as in it being content being presented to an audience, with the scenery being wheeled on and off as appropriate. I wish I had the ability to play in 3D!

Yet again we learn that people do not understand what a game engine is or does. This could very easily be the LBP engine. This could be Unreal, with custom lighting. It could be anything. They've said it's built in house, but I would assume - as with all things Sony first party - there will be shared engine tech with LBP.

A silly request, but is there a site other than Youtube where I can view this? In Pakistan Youtube is blocked :-/.

they probably gonna say look like lbp, lol floaty platforming, or something like that...

Yes, the narrative is already there. Every Puppeteer thread it gets worse. People love sticking to a shit story, even if people confront them on it, its easier to just be mentally lazy. Eyes rolled out of my head at "100% the LBP engine". Percentages, how do they work.

Game looks awesome. The voice acting grates on me a bit personally because I've always hated the Punch and Judy tone of voice for some reason, it goes right through me.

I'm not watching any more media for this game so i haven't watched the new trailer. This is definately a game of which i'm pretty sure i'll buy day one and i want to go in fresh.

One of my most anticipated titles for next year so hopefully it's coming sooner rather than later.

Definitely a bright spot of today's Sony showing, I'm looking forward to it. I just hope the playable sections won't take a backseat to scripted narrative parts.

We are currently casting in London for the voice actors, so I apologize for the voices in the trailer. ItÂ’s a little embarrassing because all of the voices are done by me, apart from the narrator.

Actually, I am thinking of doing the WitchÂ’s voice in the final retail version, I just havenÂ’t decided for sure yet. So, I thought I would leave that up to you the fans to decide. If you want me to remain as the Witch in Puppeteer, please just post a comment below and I will tally it up. Witch yes/no will do.

This game..... I just can't praise it enough. This trailer is just amazing, made me smile and awe like a 8 year old child. 2013 is shaping up to be a year to remember for Sony (games-wise).

Btw, I liked the voice acting, at least it's a lot better then what most games offer nowadays. He should seriously keep at it as the voice of the Witch.

There were times I also thought this was being made on the LBP engine, or at least was being developed by Media Molecule. But alas, the game actually looks really good, and a really interesting type of title to be made so late in a consoles life span.

"These games look similar, this engine must be the same!"
I'm not talking about the art style. The volumetric lighting and particle system (look at the fog on the screen) looks like it was pulled straight from that Engine. I haven't seen the ND or Guerrilla Game engine pull of lights like that.

Regardless, it looks fantastic.

I hope more people start taking notice of this one...it looks like a real gem in the making. And I'm not even a platforming fan lol

That looked absolutely gorgeous and fun as hell to boot. It's certainly got it's own unique atmosphere. Definitely going to check this out whenever it hits PSN.

That's funny, I think the whole "man imitating a woman's voice" thing actually fits the puppeteer show setting and all.

And yes, it looks beautiful.

I was't aware that once one studio implemented a system, another studio couldn't replicate it without using their engine. Crazy

Something about how this game looks reminds of the visual style of DKC on the SNES. Not the artstyle, but how the characters are designed, etc.

Looks phenomenal btw.

It's no secret I'm psyched for this, but it's also no secret I'm eager to hear some hands-on impressions of the controls, platforming, etc. Will this be playable at TGS? Will we finally see some written hands-on impressions (instead of hands-off)?

Yep, looks incredible.

Funny that he's apologizing for the voice acting, I thought it was absolutely spot on and wouldn't change a thing.
