Q1 2017 is gonna be insane

JANUARY
- Gravity Rush 2

- Yakuza 0

FEBRUARY
- Ni-oh
- Persona 5

- NieR Automata
- Horizon: Zero Dawn

MARCH

- Tekken 7
- Digimon World Next Order

out of your list op, this is my 100% done deal for me. also some other jpn games you forgot and South Park FBW

Switch hardware and games (Zelda for Wii U though), Resident Evil VII and Yooka-Laylee for me, though not even one of those at launch, and REVII depends on if it hits Switch or not.

For some it does, as some of these look incredibly promising. Add some indies and Japanese games and yes, it looks like one hell of a quarter to many.

Of course it's all subjective, but for me personally I can't recall a more promising quarter.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of games do people like who are not interested in anything from this list?

This too. Japanese is not a genre. You can't compare the gameplay of Nioh to Breath of the Wild or Resident Evil 7.
I agree. for January and February that list is promising as I'm getting a good chunk. Hell for anytime of year I see that list as promising IMO. January/February are typically usually somewhat "slow" for game releases usually if I recall correctly? But really hyped for the first 3 months of the year. It can be a dry next few months but my backlog will be huge so I'll have much to play. Not to mention I already have a nice backlog to boot.

So far my choices are
Resident Evil 7
Hitman The Complete First Season
Ni-oh
Persona 5
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Mass Effect Andromeda (I am confident it will be delayed )

Is "Japanese game" a new genre or something? Why would someone like or dislike a game based only on where it was made?

Among the Japanese games on that list there are action, horror, rpg, and adventure titles, new IPs, main entries to acclaimed IPs, some with anime aesthetic, others with very realistic graphic style...but apparently only people that like "Japanese games" are going to be interested on them?

Ok
Speak the truth!

Day 1
Gravity Rush 2
Yakuza 0
Ni-oh
Persona 5
NieR Automata
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 HD

Rest of them wait and watch. I have the money but no time lol

I feel like we've been having this same discussion every year since the fall of 2009. Many of these games will get pushed to Q2 or even the fall as they always do. In terms of games for existing consoles, it's nothing out of the ordinary and perhaps even a lighter schedule than the past few years.

But things are going to be crazier than normal given the release of the Switch. That is if it even meets the current Q1 deadline.

Ok

Exactly. It's just pure ignorance to dismiss a game based on where it's made. It's just as bad as when someone says "I don't like indie games," like they're all cut from the same cloth or something.

I'm so screwed. February is going to destroy me. I want basically all of these Day 1, except maybe Horizon.

JANUARY
- Gravity Rush 2

FEBRUARY
- Ni-oh
- Persona 5
- For Honor
- NieR Automata
- Horizon: Zero Dawn

MARCH
- Nintendo Switch (hardware)
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Unannounced Switch launching games - Definitely Monster Hunter

Wish some of that stuff released in Q4 2016. I have nothing to look forward except FF15 yet I won't be able to play everything on Q1 2017 :/

What a time to have a PS4!
For me : Gravity Rush 2, Persona 5, Ni Oh and Horizon.
Will grab later in the year in a promo : Nier and Yakuza 0.

I think we have by now learned that there is no "insane Qx". We always think there will be one but enough key titles WILL get delayed that the quarter in question loses the "insane" status.

I guess if Mass Effect losing Q1 status would stop that quarter from being insane, sure. And THAT'S a maybe. But those games are mostly delayed or ones that aren't going to miss dates.

I'm the first to think major games are delayed, but these don't fit the profile.

I'm confuse... where I ignored japanese games?

I just said that is a great list for fans of Japanese titles.

You seem to be counting "Japanese title" a a genre though?

What do you think makes a "Japanese title", beside the country of origin of the Developer?

JANUARY
- Gravity Rush 2
- Kingdom Hearts 2.8

- Yakuza 0
- Tales of Berseria
- Resident Evil 7
- Hitman The Complete First Season
- Dragon Quest VIII

FEBRUARY
- Ni-oh
- Persona 5

- For Honor
- Berserk
- NieR Automata
- Horizon: Zero Dawn

- Halo Wars 2

MARCH
- Nintendo Switch (hardware)
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild

- Unannounced Switch launching games
- Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 HD
- Ghost Recon Wildlands
- Yooka-Laylee
- Mass Effect Andromeda?

That's 10 titles.
Add in a few titles from this year than i still want to play (The Last Guardian, Hyper Light Drofter, The Banner Saga 2) and there's enough games to hold me until 2018, and this is without counting games from Later '17!

We still don't have a concrete date on Sonic Mania, do we? That's what I'm looking forward to the most.

Yakuza 0 and Yooka-Laylee are gonna be great as well.

So I was planning my gaming purchases for the first trimester of next year and holy shit, my wallet is already crying:

JANUARY
- Gravity Rush 2
- Kingdom Hearts 2.8
- Yakuza 0
- Tales of Berseria
- Resident Evil 7
- Hitman The Complete First Season
- Dragon Quest VIII

FEBRUARY
- Ni-oh
- Persona 5
- For Honor
- Berserk
- NieR Automata
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- Halo Wars 2

MARCH
- Nintendo Switch (hardware)
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Unannounced Switch launching games
- Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 HD
- Ghost Recon Wildlands
- Yooka-Laylee
- Mass Effect Andromeda?

Q1 2017 (no release date yet)
- Tekken 7
- Digimon World Next Order

Am I missing something?

There are like 5 or 6 Day 1 purchases for me in that list, and I'm planning on buying the Switch, so I don't know how I'm gonna make it lol

What is GAF planning on picking up?

Nier is not confirmed for February in USA or Europe.

All maybies, depending on funds and whims.

JANUARY
- Gravity Rush 2
- Rabi-Ribi (Vita double-dip for sure)
- And of course the Switch event

FEBRUARY
- Persona 5
- NieR Automata (if it's Feb for EU)

MARCH
- Nintendo Switch + unannounced games
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild (if it's a launch game)
- Yooka-Laylee (KS'd)

Gravity Rush 2, Ni-Oh, Nier 2, Horizon, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 & 2.8, and Tekken are definites for me. Mass Effect IF it it makes it to Q1 (I don't think it will). But there's no way I can play all these games as they release. Some of them are going to have to be pushed back.

I'll probably have hold off on Yakuza, Berseria, and Yooka-Laylee for a while too, but I do want to play them eventually.

I'm in on Yakuza 0 and Nioh for sure. Not sure about Persona though. Can't have too many RPGs in a short amount of time. Don't want to try to play all 3 and end up playing none.

Please buy Yakuza 0...please...

Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0,Tales of Berseria, Ni-oh, Persona 5, Berserk, NieR Automata...

Titles that don't appeal for the average western player. I know that GAF is different, there's a lot fans of japanese niche tittles here and that's fine, but for people that doesn't have this profile the list is not even close to be insane.

But it's a good list with some interesting games, including japanese like RE 7 and Zelda.

But gaf is not all Western readers tho... And Japanese niche titles are mostly a huge thing in all asia.

If you're into Japanese games the next 3 months are simply bonkers. Took over 3 years into the generation but man are they delivering...

Gravity Rush 2 (Jan)
Nier + Persona 5 (Feb)
Switch + Launch Titles (March)

I'll backtrack to For Honor, Horizon, and some others later in the year. The rest of this year is all about tackling the backlog.

Yeah, pretty crazy few months.

Think I'm gonna pass on that new Nintendo thing at least so that'll take some of the pressure off, but there's still a lot there I want.

Persona 5 and Yakuza 0 are probably the ones I want most.

You are aware that this is literally a thread on GAF you're posting this in, right?

Don't seem like much to me Resident Evil 7, Horizon and Wildlands.

I would get the Nintendo Switch but I have a baby on the way two months from that date. If it can be done I will get it but I'm not counting on it.

Hardware:

Nintendo Switch

Software:

Gravity rush 2
Yakuza 0
Tales of Berseria
Ni-Oh
Persona 5
Horizon Zero Dawn
Zelda (if it is a launch title)
3D Mario game (if it is a launch title)
Skyrim Switch (if it is a launch title)
Yooka-Laylee (either Switch or PS4)

Quite the expensive period to be sure, and I still need to fit Trails of Cold Steel 2 in somewhere.

Edit: I would add Nier, but it is not actually confirmed to be releasing in the West in Q1 yet, or am I wrong here?
