In all the media I read in the lead up to Shenmue's release back in the day they were always referred to as Quick Time Events. I'm going to guess that the screenshot in this trailer just had a bad translation from Japanese.

That screenshot is the anomaly. I seriously read every single tidbit I could find on the internet about Shenmue before it was released.

Language changes over time. The term 'Quick Time Event' has been used far more to describe this than 'Quick Timer Event'. Thus it has become the standard in the gaming lexicon. What it was once called it is irrelevant.
