It's quick time event, I don't care what Shenmue says. The creator of gif also thinks it's pronounced "jif", and well he's wrong.
"Quick time event" is one of those weird contortions of the language specific to the video game space, like "score attack" and "bravely default", that communicates nothing to those who aren't already versed in the lingo. You can't even reverse-engineer what it means; it doesn't parse. At best it reeks of mistranslation.
If anything, it should be "quick timed event".

I was under the impression that Resident Evil 4 popularized QTEs, while you could say that Shenmue invented them. And I believe RE4 called them Quick Time Events, which is why everyone calls them as such now.

Excusing games like Dragon's Lair and Time Gal and the like, Shenmue was the first game to use it, that I'm aware of, in the context we're discussing.
In all the media I read in the lead up to Shenmue's release back in the day they were always referred to as Quick Time Events. I'm going to guess that the screenshot in this trailer just had a bad translation from Japanese.
That screenshot is the anomaly. I seriously read every single tidbit I could find on the internet about Shenmue before it was released.
