Question about Sephiroth and Vincent (Final Fantasy VII SPOILERS)

So my memory of all of the backstory for this game is a bit shaky. I know in the original game it says that Hojo and Lucrecia are Sephiroth's parents but the game also talks about Vincent having a thing with Lucrecia before, yknow, all the stuff happens.

When you do eventually recruit Vincent he's talking about sins and shit and his hatred for Hojo, which yeah, Hojo murdered and experimented on him, but Vincent also has this weird interest with Lucrecia and Sephiroth. Is that supposed to be an implication that he's really the father?

It's pretty soap-opera-y and melodramatic but that seems to fit the rest of the tone of the game. Never played Dirge of Cereberus but I know that there are flashbacks to those old events so maybe someone else can shed some light.

Lucrecia also allowed Hojo to experiment on their baby Sephiroth (injecting it with Jenova cells whilst still in the womb, I think?), and I think Vincent regretted allowing that to happen. But him confronting Hojo is what got him "killed."

I think Dirge disproves it - Lucretia completely distances herself from Vincent because she feels guilty for his father's death. So it doesn't leave room time-wise for Vincent to be Sephiroth's father.

Hojo killed him and fucked his girl, tore that shit up raw

As a FF7 enthusiast I came in here with an essay ready to explain the intricate details and complex relationship between Vincent/Lucrecia/Hojo/Sephiroth but this pretty much covers it all.

I think Vincent THOUGHT he was Seph's father, but when he realized it was Hojo he hated him even more. (He always knew Hojo stole his girlfriend, though.) If you take him with you to the Shinra Cannon during the assault on Midgar at the end of the game, the two of them have extra dialogue that insinuates this, ending with Vincent saying,

"I was wrong. The one who should have slept... was you, Hojo!"

To be serious though I remember something in game saying hojo and she grew close and he did stuff to her while she was pregnant which led to her death

Hojo: But it was me, Vincent. It was me who slept with Lucrecia all along!

Yep. Vincent got cuckolded and still pined after her. Hell she only gave him the time of day out of pity, she had the hots for his dad. Experimented on her kid and turned him into a murderous sociopath. Yet Vincent blames himself for all of this lol. Dude is broken

Best FF7 Character - in the Remake atleast his limit breaks can't be that shitty anymore

I always thought Vincent was an unneeded character in FF7. I think the game could have trimmed Vincent and Cait sith and there wouldn't have been much impact to the story. Maybe focus on other characters more.

Wasn't it consensual though? I mean injecting Jenova's cell to baby Sephiroth?

She dies giving birth to him.

Remember that time Hojo tried to get Red XIII to fuck Aerith?

Also I thought Vincent being Sephiroth's father was an awesome idea, and would have been better than Hojo.

her ass cheeks took a bashing

OT: What I gathered from all of this backstory is that Hojo is the father, which led to some friction with Vincent since he loved Lucrecia or something. It never occurred to me that Vincent would actually be the father. I assume he hates Sephiroth because it's implied the conception wasn't exactly consensual, plus I believe they did inhumane experiments on Lucrecia to steer Sephiroth's growth.

That's because Vincent was literally an optional character. Lol

Best TL;DR version of Vincent's sub-plot ever, goddamn.

I was so amused when Dirge came around, and it turned out Vincent had been moping after a woman who was more into his father than into him. Oh, Vincent. No. Just... no.

These are Vicent and Yuffie... they have no impact on story/plot... most people finish FFVII without know these two existed (they are optional).

Cait Sith is a key character for the plot/story.

I've always viewed Hojo and Jenova as the main villains of ff7 with seph kinda just being there now and then as a generic easy to understand goal

Sephiroth is the Puppet Master. He just kinda spends the entire game pulling strings from the Northern Cave.

Hojo is ultimately responsible for everything, though. Between the three of them, they're a perfect storm of destructive assholes.

Yup. He's the only one who can manipulate Jenova's cells to do his will.

I still think this is stupid. The only thing that really makes Sephiroth special are the Jenova cells, he goes on to do exactly what Jenova's original goal was and he shows a strong obsession towards his "mother" through the course of the game. But blah blah it was in the Ultimania so whatever.

At the very least you can assume they are at least one with each other.
