R.Mika confirmed for Street Fighter V

It is weird though that Mortal Kombat is now the game that seems much more progressive about female designs considering what was in MK9 :p

SF is a cartoon so it's hard for me to get offended like some Gaffers here. MK went more serious with design but their violence and gore is just as cartoony.

I take it MKX is your first MK game. Look up MK9 and below to see all the 'girls that can be cool with "clothes" on'.

Edit: ya gotta be trolling, just gotta be.

Read my words. I"m suprised I live in a world where MK is that game. It might be because MK9 before hand wasn't that game.

sf has always had sex appeal this isnt new

people are bothered way too much by this
That's my argument, though, that Chun Li was always supposed to be sexy. As for your second point, lol, people have the right to complain about what they don't like.

Uh, I'm pretty sure the poster is talking about MKX, considering that's the current game Netherrealm Studos is working on and not MK9.

We can assume that, yes. But he didn't specify MKX and left it as just Mortal Kombat. Clearly MKX has taken a more progressive approach to female designs, but MK as a collective series? It's filled with "lewd" costumes.

Umm... she sounds exactly how she was in Alpha 3. Her voice actress is the same as well. She just sounds very energetic and passionate about wrestling.

GAT DAMN!!!!!

So instead of two heart pasties, she now has one giant heart-shaped cutout in her top. Ok.

And somehow they made her suit even more revealing.

Not digging Mika's voice acting and vibe in this game.
She seems to be more angry than joyful. She was a childish moe wrestler, but now she reminds me of a strip club hoe.

Also, why the ass spanking? That's so vulgar and unnecessary.

I mean thats fine, but I think it stupid. And made worse that in the plethora of fighting games, or at least popular ones. There are few options for female grappers that aren't that. Female grappler's in general. I think a lot of the reason R. Mika is also receiving a lot of scorn is because there are few options for that female archetype.

But I guess that goes on the " I'm going to have to do it my damn self " list.

Oh don't misunderstand, you're 100% free to dislike it. I'm just saying "Mika is dressed like that because a segment of the female wrestling population is dressed like that" is a legit reason to go for a design like that even if not everybody will like it.

I'm not against attractive designs. Also, my original comment wasn't even rallying against R. Mika, it was saying that people who don't like cheesecake have a legitimate reason to do so. That's completely lost at this point because people were putting words in my mouth and I was having to defend ever stupid little detail of my posts. I never wanted to go on a tangent about Chun Li, only that she isn't an exception to the fan service rule.

I dunno I feel "cheesecake" has a very specific connotation and in the way you were using it negative. I, and I don't think others, were ever trying to say Chun-Li was not designed to be attractive (she clearly was). I just have a hard time understanding how she or Karin rise to the level of actually being uncomfortable to people in their default outfits. Everybody has their line with regards to sexuality, I just find it weird that someone would set the threshold so low.

Awesome trailer, great inclusion. Can't wait till we get hands on with her. Could be a case of Blonde Fighter 5, but so be it, as long as that means we can get Karin.

I definitely agree with this. For me progressive representation isn't about cutting out one representation of women but rather providing more of them. Simple fact is that not everyone who likes the more 'evocative' female designs are male and while the more revealing types of character aren't typically my thing, personally, I don't personally see a problem with there being some in a roster as long as it's not the only type of female design. This is why characters like Makoto are great, but the entire female roster doesn't need to be Makoto clones either or all dress like men :P

Don't get me wrong Wuth, there's definitely an issue with the representation of women in games and at the companies I've worked at I've often fought tooth and claw to even get ANY female characters into the games, nevermind even a diverse selection of them so there's plenty of room for improvement, but at the same time I'm not sure the people constantly demonising the few we do get is helping any. Lest we forget that Mika is the 3rd female in the entire roster so far out of 10 reveals and is the only single female grappler in the entire series :s

I agree with you. My entire point, originally, was that people who have a problem with female representation in this franchise have legitimate concerns. I was simply reacting to those here that want to shut down that conversation.

The entire Chun-Li argument spawned off of a comment I made about how SF has a long history of fanservice and that no character is left out.

FYI, if you do want change you do have to make yourself heard. If you don't like something, make yourself heard. You might not get your way but that's how free speech works.

I think it's more like, is it actually worthy of all the whining it's getting?

Fan service is part of games. SF5's is tame as all hell.

Maybe we should question it, and criticize it. And thats totally okay.

they are both cartoons. And mortal kombat went about redoing a lot of aspects of its world and design. I would like it 5 did that a bit more. Ken looks rad though

Yeah, I honestly didn't see that coming. Props to MK, their new designs are much better (and the girls are still sexy, they're just not ninja strippers like in the past).

i wouldnt say the girls in MK are sexy.. pretty much every character in that game is hideous but i get what youre saying.

is that a thing thats going on in the uhh west starting to happen there? where people are talking about how women are depicted in games or media? cause if its not i can see why they really wouldnt change. i dont have a problem with over the top sexualization either but i really dont like the finger wagging a lot of people do when they dont like something

Seems fitting when looking at what female wrestlers look like

Eh nobody has crack like that tbh. The buttfloss is really my only problem, it would have worked better if there were shorts shorts underneath it or just make the lower part of the outfit booty shorts entirely.

Or just accentuate the ass in new exciting ways rather than Cammying it up.

No thanks.

no thanks to what more exploration design? Or looking like Mk.

If the former, why? If the latter, please don't be that guy that accuses someone of wanting everything to look the same just because someone compared one to the other. Don't be that guy, that guy is lame. And you have a nicalli avatar, who is in fact not lame.

Yeah, I mean from a character design standpoint. I know faces aren't NRS' strongest point, lol.

Well you're misinterpreting my comments then. I will say that school girl outfits are stupid in the context of SF, but the this has nothing to do with where my sexual threshold lies.

It's really about good character design and not constantly putting female characters into those sexually loaded positions. When I'm playing, I'm not putting the controller down in disgust, but I am thinking 'that's a dumb character design' or 'this character looks stupid outside of her costume's fan service.' You can feel free to disagree, but I'm not some kind of monster who wants all women covered in rags. I just want the same breadth of design for girls that there are for guys, but it seems like they're limited by the amount of cheesecake a design can offer.

Makoto for launch 2016, support the best SF3 girl.

Seems like she has the same personality to me. Did you play an entirely different SFA3? All of her mannerisms are here from the pointing to microphone use. Only difference is, in SFA3 she literally massaged her ass, not just slapped it.

Sigh. These threads are all the same, someone(justifiably) points out R.Mika's costume and says they think it's "gross, dumb or sexist".
Fans of the character or the game gets upset and tries to defend it in long paragraphs filled with silly reasons. Over and over again.
If you like it, great! Stop trying to defend it (mostly because it's quite silly) and enjoy what you like without being insulting or making silly reasons.
If you don't, awesome! Your right to your opinion (and usually "right") but don't shame or insulting people who do.

I like R.Mika mostly due to wrestling fighting style. The T&A don't really factor in.

Edit: yes I see the irony in my post.

That wasn't hard considering what they had before. Also this sounds strange but MK also had a more grounded feel to me that street fighter. Not sure if that makes any sense.

I kinda know what you're saying, that's what made MK9's designs so awkward haha. The moves and stuff are super cartoony, but the people look more like real people I think.
