So, started a new job this week at an automotive plant and finally went out to the floor this today for a preview of the actual jobs we'll do next week. My dad works at this place, along with other family. My grandfather retired from this place. I know all about following the rules in your first 90 days.
Under 30 minutes on the floor, I was talking to 3 Union Reps, getting a stern talking to. This was because the machine my trainer was working on went down, asked if I had afternoon break yet, said no, and took break outside with my trainer (they were a smoker, Im not). This is a huge no-no. So - had a break coming, my trainer took me on break, but since I had only been on the floor 30 minutes, got chewed out, and they contracted my dad and told them to talk to me..... WTF, I dont even.....
Then we finished up and had a meeting with our team leader's manager's manager. We had no official stop time today, and at 3 said "Well, thats all I had for you, you may go home". My group is almost at the door, and 2 Union Reps come wheeling up and ask the 6 of us what we are doing. "Going home?" Apparently, the unreleased, unannounced, unposted, untold end of shift time was at "3:30" and despite having a high ranking manager tell us to go home, the Union Reps told us it would have been very bad if we had walked out the gates, regardless.
At this point, I feel like if I fart, I need HR to write up something that says its okay for me to pass gas, tell me if there is any limitations on it, and have up to 3 supervisors sign it.
Long story short, I followed directions given to me by people assigned to teach me what to do, and got verbal discipline not once, but TWICE by the Union Reps of the plant. Awesome.
