Rarely mentioned PS1 games that you enjoy

Incredible Crisis

IncredibleCrisis-PALcover.jpg

I suppose you could say it was the Warioware of the PSOne era. A game full of minigames that induced stress levels and drove you to the point of insanity, yet...you'd always go back for more. I never completed this game, not once, but I do now have an itch to go and find it on eBay so I can finally do it. I don't think many people played this game, and it certainly didn't get the love it deserved, but it was brilliant. And bat-shit insane.

Some of you people need to go find the "Regularly mentioned PS1 games that you enjoy" thread.

Suikoden? Alundra? PaRappa? Die Hard Trilogy? Vagrant Story? Wild Arms? Tomba? Klonoa?

Those games, and many others, are talked about on GAF plenty.

lol, I was thinking the same thing.

Another game I used to love playing and had a awesome soundtrack to boot!

Motorhead

Had the option to play against 2 CPU opponents at 60fps or 5 CPU opponents at 30fps

People always bring up 1, but 3 was easily the best. It's basically FF8 with Digimon. The card game alone is reason to buy it.

The card game was the best part. I loved this game, but the loading killed it for me. I put in about 30 hours in the game, and had like 5-10 more to finish. Loading just sucked out my enthusiasm, never went back to it since.

Not really obscure but Micromachines V3 multiplayer is a drug:

I'm surprised on how many remember Nightmare Creatures so fondly.
The game was mediocre at best.

Krazy Ivan!

A super-weird and experimental mech game by Psygnosis. The premise is that you play as a literally schizophrenic Russian mech pilot who fight mechanical aliens. In gameplay, you can fight generic enemies to farm points and ammo, but the main objective is to destroy all boss mechs (all of which have unique appearances and attack patterns), making it an Alien Soldier-style boss game. The later battles can get very intense and creative, and the game has amusing live-action FMV cutscenes and an excellent soundtrack by the same composer as the first Wipeout. It's not a game I would actively recommend to people but I really enjoy it.

Definitely Wargames.

The game was essentially a Macro-RTS. It was Batallian Wars before Batallian Wars existed. You had certain units, some more effective than others against different enemy types. You could also pick between both sides of the conflict in completely different campaigns, either as the AI menace trying to eliminate humanity, or the Humans, trying to irradicate the oppressive AI attackers.

The best part was, you could play co-op throughout the entire campaign. It was some of the best co-op to be had on the PSX!

I don't think Fear Effect can classify as rarely mentioned. They were quite popular back in the day, especially with their adult themes and graphics. The horror-noir mood was out of this world. The series needs to make a comeback :(

Not sure if Digimon World counts, but that game is very dear to me. I love the music, the art, and style. It's very relaxing, unless I'm in Mt. Infinity.

The setting and idea of Nigtmare Creatures was so great, but the actual game was pretty bad yeah. I always wanted to like it and tried to play through it so many times. Bloodborne is basically the good version of it.

Oh god, that existed! I played that and completely forgot about it until now. Yeah, that was a fun little game.

Lifeforce/Codename Tenka

Cool FPS (one of the first i ever played) that came out in 1997. Was on one of the Playstation demo disks and i played it a million times over. Great soundtrack and a cool setting to the game. I like to bring my old copy out and play it every once in a while

Known as T.R.A.G in the US. Not the greatest game, but I'm a sucker for tank controls and this game is quite charming.

I had fun with this one and don't see much mention of it. Love the European Dystopian inspired look of the game.

I've got a few more but can't remember them right now.

Forget if this one is any good but I remember liking it.

Not really, but it is fun...mostly. I finished the game for the first time last year, and I originally played it back in '03. Between the grinding and low+random drop rate of the really good cards, trying to fight endgame bosses was an exercise in frustration. They fight with ridiculously powerful cards that you can't even obtain in the vanilla game, cards like base perfectly ultimate great moth, gate guardian, and the King of bullshit blue eyes ultimate dragon. If it wasn't for the memory card duplication trick to get multiple meteor b dragons, there's no way I could have finished it.

Damn, I had so much fun with this game when I was a kid. Too bad From turned into an annual Souls-factory (even if I like the Souls games) and completely ditched their other IPs <.<...

What starts as a fairly derivative Doom clone, soon turns into quite a deep FPS/adventure which had Metroid elements like only allowing access to new places after specific powers were gained.

Alundra

PS version of Zelda!

Right when I was about to post about it :)
Can it be considered as "rarely mentioned" though?
I think it can imo, it seems to be quite underrated to me whereas it's really, really great. Definitely Playstation's well deserved Zelda equivalent.

Fuck this thread, now I realize the amount of titles that are not available on the various PS Stores... :(
We could play so many games...

It's really a shame and I wish there was a bigger push to get these in the store. In my case, especially for the Vita.

I remember when there was this glitch on the network that allowed me to download Blood Omen, Crash Bandicoot Warped, and Crash Team Racing. Being able to customize the controls made them feel more modern and such a delight to replay.
