traveler said:Since you lot of unbiased geniuses can only be bothered with posting negative quotes from a <8 score.
Of course, the PS2 games looked so great to begin with that it's harder to find that huge leap that some PS3 games can offer
I dont think it has much to do with the score. Its the texted based review, with some points being ridiculous and some great achievements not even being mentioned.Jim said:There are literally 2 or 3 moments when they "take the control away" like that, none of which struck me as being annoying at all. The first of which is in the demo on that weird first level (which is NOTHING like the rest of the game).
I can't think of any other times that they could possibly be complaining about, and I usually like to bitch about stupid camera scripting.
I wish there was a way to know what the damn skill point requirements are before unlocking them. Have to spend some more time getting those and the last few gold bolts I missed.
Also, 8.5 is still a fair score for a great game. I don't understand this "all reviews must have a 9.0/90% or better" mentatility.

AltogetherAndrews said:Again though, I don't have a problem with that. What I find absolutely pitiful are his comments regarding the game not showing that important leap over its PS2 counterparts, and of course the complete lack of mention of the quality of the character animation and design. The first one makes me think he should just not be doing what he's doing, and I suppose the second point goes hand in hand with his inability (poorly coupled with an apparent burning desire) to rate graphics quality.

VonGak! said:Just weird that they didn't make the same stab at another just recently released game.
Too bad R&C doesn't have subtle beauty to make up up for it being among the best looking games of this gen. ^.^
EDIT: Just to make it obvious, I dislike double standards.

9.5 Graphics:
"Fantastic" is what comes to mind when describing the sights you'll see. A rock-solid framerate, crazy effects, a terrific art design and environmental activity galore. Prettiest thing on the system.
10 Presentation:
Insomniac has created its most intriguing and diverse universe yet. The story is strong and ends with closure and a cliffhanger (figure that one out), while load times rarely exist.
9.5 Gameplay
Insomniac has the Ratchet and Clank formula down pat and the balance and progression of the shooting/ platforming/ space battles has be refined to award-winning levels. Fun, fun, fun!
Whether you're new to R&C or someone who has played them all, Ratchet and Clank Future deserves to be in your library no matter what. Not only has it supplanted Going Commando as the best title in the franchise, it's also the best game of any series on the PlayStation 3 thus far -- and that's saying a lot when you're up against Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, Warhawk and Insomniac's very own previous effort, Resistance: Fall of Man.
Congratulations Full Moon folks, you're two for two.

Well, let's be real here. You are. I mean obviously the review is written kind of badly and deserves the lashing, but if there was a 9.5 at the end instead of an 8.5, it would have been tossed in the bucket like the rest and not given a second glance.AltogetherAndrews said:Address the comments or don't bother responding at all. traveler said:I already have. It's called "dimishing returns" and it applies to every single next-gen game out there. It also didn't stop Joe from calling the game beautiful, hardly a dig at the game's graphics. If you guys honestly think he was trying to criticize Ratchet's graphical prowess, (or the PS3's in general) I don't know how to help you.
traveler said:Edit: Draft, you don't even have to say that. They were waiting with baited breath and guns in hand as soon as the score was mentioned yesterday, before any text had hit. Any words- and I mean ANY words- out of line and, BAM, 1up is dead meat.

Mifune said:Oh, and whining about one line in an extremely positive review is any less pathetic?
This game gets a 9.5 and nobody is complaining.
AltogetherAndrews said:That line is pathetic. The dude can't spot much of a leap from PS2 Ratchet games to Ratchet for PS3, and he sees himself fit to even talk about graphics? Comical.

traveler said:I played UYA, but that was it. Thought it was quite great. As far as how it compares with ToD graphically, I think there is a pretty big difference. Like I said, I honestly think that comment was an offhand remark about dimishing returns in general but, hey, maybe if you guys keep making noise about it, he'll actually blog about the damn sentence, so, by all means, continue.
traveler said:You've got to be friggin kidding me. :lol
You guys know as well as I do the score decided 1up's fate yesterday- just look at the EGM thread at the beginning for crying out loud- words were hardly your first concern Mr. "I Only Care About the Text."
AltogetherAndrews said:If he wants to make a general comment about diminishing returns, he should probably stick that in a blog, or at least in a review where it makes a lick of sense. In regards to Ratchet, it just plain doesn't, and it makes this reviewer look like someone who shouldn't be talking about graphics quality, ever.
Where'd you get the Gamepro score?natureman3 said:more reviews are coming in
Gamepro 5/5 (100/100)
Gamernode 95/100
Gamezone 93/100
good score.
1up did not like it much apparently...
