Rayman Legends |OT| "It's a bit like a porno" (Michel Ancel) WiiU/360/PS3/Vita/PC

Yaboosh

Super Sleuth
Rayman Legends and its predecessor really do have orgasmic visuals.

Currently I am replaying through Origins and often I have to stop and gaze at the gorgeous colors, backgrounds and animations.

I am also really digging the medieval inspirations in Rayman Legends. It might even look better than Origins. So hyped! Pre-ordered it yesterday for PS3.

Wat? I guess you don't like shmups.

That was not a good shmup though.

At PAX Aus I played a level where the person with the gamepad controlled a spotlight, and everyone else had to stay within it (or something like that).

It was super original in execution and everyone had fun. Was playing with a friend and two strangers and by the end of the demo we were all cooperating and laughing and such. Really made me look forward to the game.

I'm starting off with the Wii U version then the Vita. I'll then wait a few months till the game drops to $19.99 and pick it up on PS3.

One of the main reasons I bought a Wii U at launch. Better late than never though, my Wii U is ready and so will be my Vita (will buy later when it drops in price).

I played through the PS3 version and really liked it. I plan to spring for the Vita version, though.

You've played it through already?

Can you give any sort of estimate as to how many Murfy levels are in the game?

Review reports have been conflicting about that...as expected.

I have a question. Can I play this on Wii U with 3 other players using the gamepad and 3 wiimotes? Or do I need to get more Wii U Pro Controllers?

You can use Wii remotes. Sprint's mapped to the trigger though which can be a bit of a pain holding it sideways. EDIT - You can use nunchuk style too, FYI.

Oops, I meant to say that I played through the PS3 demo. Sorry about that!

WII U

yDu7uO1.jpg

+ Lead version. The main gimmick was designed with the Pad in mind.
+ The only version that allows 5 people to play at the same time (one of them has to be Murfy).
+ Includes exclusive (duh) Luigi and Mario costumes. Also exclusive is this Funky Ray skin, but only for people who download the Challenge App before August 28.
+ 1080p/60fps.

- Seemingly the most expensive version, at least in some places.
- Missing 5 levels exclusive to the Vita version.
- AI-controlled character during the Murfy sections in single-player.
- Depending on sales, competition in challenges could dry up pretty soon. Although this wasn't the case for the Challenge App.
You and OP both forgot the mention the exclusive Wii U level "The Deadly Lights".

The Wii U will get an exclusive level that employs those dynamic light stealth mechanics, titled "The Deadly Lights." On Wii U, Ubisoft puts the GamePad to perfect use, letting one player control Murfy, the helpful green fly, for cooperative puzzle-solving and stealth-based gameplay. In "The Deadly Lights," the player in control of Murfy can tap switches that turn off spotlights and move pipes and platforms with the touchscreen to block streams of light.

If Rayman Legends really is to Rayman Origins what Galaxy 2 was to Galaxy, then holy shit I'm so in. Day 1 baby.

Playing Rayman Origins right now, can't wait for tomorrow. PC version of course, I don't like touch controls.

I didn't care for Origins, but this demo was pretty great. I might jump in since it's so cheap on PC.

Didn't know Vita version was delayed, any reason?

Nothing yet. So far only European PS Store and some European retailers have changed their date. Nothing about the North America date changing yet other than an incorrect date from a listing on IGN. Also, some North American reviewers already have review copies of the Vita version so *shrug*. I think (and hope) NA is safe on this one.

A couple of questions
1- WHERE'S THE DAMN US PSN DIGITAL VERSION1?!?!
2- How much will the US PSN version cost for PS3 at least?
3- How big will the game be on PSN?

Jeebus. I pre-ordered the Wii U version for $37.99 at Newegg on 9/17/12, when they had the game listed at $50 - $12 pre-order code. I have changed credit cards and purchased the PC version at $15 since then. Not sure if I want to hang onto it to see if it ships at that cost, cancel it in case it doesn't, just play PC, etc....

Mainly debating whether the Murfy levels are worth it.

As long as you have the same payment it will.

I had to change my CC today to ensure it still came.

One more day. I can't wait for this one. It's going to be glorious. Origins was fantastic so i'm expecting this to be even better.

PC

+ 1080p/60fps... and beyond!
+ PS360 control pads are both playable.
+ The cheapest version of the game. Even cheaper with TF2 keys.
+ Playable with 3D Vision.

- While Origins was DRM-free, Legends seems to be tied to uplay.
- No Murfy during multiplayer.
- Murfy amounts to little more than a QTE in single-player.
- Missing 5 levels exclusive to the Vita version.
Where can I get it for TF2 keys, and how many keys do people want in exchange for Legends? I presume they got Steam versions/gifts of the game? And if they do, does that come with free Origins?

Btw, GreenManGaming has the game for 40$, but with their 20% off coupon, you can get it for 32$ (Uplay version + Origins on their Capsule thingie). I'd go with that, but I'd rather get it on Steam.

So the WiiU version should be the one to get ? I wasn't too convinced by the second character gameplay in the 360 demo, but it would make sense if it is a port from a game designed for the gamepad.

I played a bit of the Demo for the WiiU (It was in a shop) and the PS3. I liked the PS3 more. You NEED a second player for the WiiU edition (If you control Morphy a Bot will play Rayman). On the PS360 you can play the Game alone. And on the Other hand... using the Wiimotes for Rayman Legends with the same controls as Origins was the worst Idea ever. Press B to run. Your hand will ache after 2 hours of constantly pressing B.

If you have 2 Friends who are interested in completing the Game. Take the WiiU Version.

If you want to play alone or just with one friend. Take the PS360 or Vita version.

Which version to get? WiiU or PSVita?

EDIT: I am a bit of a trophy whore, normally not collecting them all, but I generally prefer the Vita version for having this (damn you Nintendo!!). For WiiU it is the gorgeous graphics with 1080p/60 and the fact that it originally was a WiiU exclusive and my mind kinda still binds it to the WiiU.

I'm playing Splinter Cell and I'm just receiving W101, I'll pick this up for sure on the Wii U right after having finished those two games

Reposting my first impressions from the Review Thread:

Played co-op for 3 hours. This game is very good. Much better than Origins. Better controls, graphics, level design, variety, ideas and music. Some of the levels with one playing as Murphy and the other one with a normal character are almost as good as Portal 2 co-op. So far there's not a single level I didn't like.
I'm a bit afraid the "story" mode might be short. If you remove Origins levels and the Invaded ones, there's only 60 unique stages apparently. After 3 hours I'm 3 levels short of the end of World 4, but it's in co-op where you rarely restart at a checkpoint. NSMBU or 3D Land are not the longest platformers if you go straight to the end so I guess it's okay for Legends as well.

Really looking forward to this!
I had a love hate relationship with Origins at first but after playing the Vita version I can't get enough of it.

Bit of the shame about the small Vita delay, but I guess I can always pick it up on Wii U and grab the Vita version a little later.

How do people already have this?

It's already out early somewhere in europe. Bought yesterday the superior Wii U version.
I had a blast. Really, fantastic game, it deserves all the positive reviews around. The pad sections are funny. The off-tv mode is a plus. Graphics and music top notch.

Nintendo's Pro Bono PR Firm
WhatCulture review is big. Seems they also liked Wii U's version the most.

Whereas other consoles are limited to 4 players, Legends on the Wii U allows a fifth player to use the gamepad to control the series’ resident helper, Murfy, allowing them to activate switches, cut ropes, grab enemies and basically assist Rayman and co. with whatever they need.

Though this could have been a lazy gimmick and not much more, it feels so organic and natural to the mode of play that the Wii U version is without question the definite way to play this game.

Getting the Wii U version because I feel bad for Nintendo getting the shaft on the release.

Also getting Vita for portable option.

Will get Steam version eventually during some sale for $7.50.

1/ There's a LOT of touch based levels, so it's kind of stupid to get the PC360 one.

2/Tthis game is mostly based on co-op, why get the Vita copy if you can't play it with friends.

3/ WiiU retail is at 49€.

The game is very enjoyable, plenty of content.
The main hub is quite annoying, a bit confusing, a real map would have been more sexy.
There's no story, not a lot of cinematics.

"invasion" levels are more than just a time attack, its an entire new course each time.
Origins level have been very well remade.

If you don't know if you should play this or W101... Go for W101.
Legends is a very good game, but W101 is way more unique and you really need to play it !
