Ready At Dawn turned down GoW Vita, working on next-gen console launch game

Well, they use the phrase "those platforms" and indicate that they want to be at launch, so this would probably be PS4/720.

That said, it could end up as an exclusive pretty easily if someone misses their window or if they're just being coy and actually have a first party deal.

They already have a publisher. There is no way they are paying for staffing 50 more people + external developments. You already have a publisher. And old hints are that it is sony http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=464790&highlight=ready+at+dawn (I really hope so)

I am glad they left Vita behind, they are too good to be stuck on a handheld.

I am not worried for Vita, at least wait for E3 before hitting panic button.

Isn't Media Molecule working on new IP for Vita?
Then Keiji Inafune game
Armature studio (former Retro guys)
Who knows who else. Chill.

I'm torn about this. On the one hand, I'm bummed, because Daxter, Chains, and Ghost were fricking amazing PSP titles, and I'd have loved to seecmore of those on the Vita.

But on the other hand, I love the idea of RaD developing their own IP and coming into their own next generation. They have shown that they are talented game designers and writers, so I'm on board with whatever they com up with next.

It's sort of kinda somewhat in a way how developers think though. How many of Sony's top tier AAA teams did you see voicing a desire to work on the PSP? Exactly.

but AAA games require giant studios, and in that sense, yea it doesn't make sense to devote so many people to handheld games because they should be smaller in scope (due to the hardware and the nature of how the device is used). Smaller studios could do an outstanding job at making handheld games because they are more appropriate. That doesn't make them lesser.

And just like that... I'm concerned about my vita purchase. Because guess what I've been playing on it? Ghost of sparta...

Don't care for GoW, but Daxter was great. Would love if their new IP was platformer, though an Action/Adventure game would be fine with me too. I just hope that they don't get swept into the shooter craze.

Well, I imagine a God of War Vita will happen, just not from them. Nihilistic, maybe, once they get done with Resistance: Burning Skies?

Damned shame, I was hoping to see more of their work on the Vita. Huge loss for the platform, IMO. But I understand their position and will support their future endeavors as long as they continue to bring the awesome.

I'm sure whatever they're working on will be stellar, but also potentially 'make-or-break' for them. Producing a next-gen game will require tons of resources and if not successful might have a dire impact on them.

Judging them by what they already achieved with the GoW games on the psp though, I'm sure they will do just fine. I can't wait to see what they come up with!!!

FLOPSs are an oversimplified way of comparing GPUs for graphics, let alone between TBDRs and IMRs.

There's a new console called WiiU releaseing this year you know...

That's incredible
They made two great games that sold quite well on the PSP then they sent back devkit to Sony. After Okami porting they came back to develop another great PSP game and finally they say they're not going to develop for the next gen of the console with their widest fanbase....

RAD you're strange...

Ready at Dawn isnt a B-team? They probably made the most impressive PSP games out there.

I wouldn't bother with an obvious troll like that. Some people ignorantly classify any studio that mostly makes handheld games as being B-team, regardless of their quality. So dumb. But maybe not that they're moving to consoles and making their own IP, people will rightfully start looking at them as being "A team" or whatever.

So how is RAD funding this next gen project...not too long ago they fired some of their employees !
SO if this project also dosent find a publisher will they start developing on VITA>?

Good for them. It's infuriating to see great devs treated like farm teams for existing IPs instead of being allowed to take a stab at their own thing.

Good point about the B-team. I'm not sure why teams are called this even if they make great handheld games. It is like Bend and Uncharted. If i didnt know the developer of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, i would have thought that Naughty Dog made it. But yeah, it shall be interesting to see how Ready At Dawn's console game will be like :)

I hope Retro finally gets a chance to make their own franchise instead of just working with Nintendo's IPs. They've certainly earned it by now. I guess those ex-Retro guys will be getting their shot though.

Maybe it's because in the case of RAD they haven't created a high quality and truly memorable IP of their own, and we haven't actually seen them work on an HD console this generation, they've been working with PS2-level assets until now, we don't even know if they can make a proper transistion to the current generation, let alone the next one. In terms of Bend they've been relegated to working on another dev's IP instead of Syphon Filter, I'm sure when they finally put out another AAA Syphon Filter game, they'll get the credit they deserve. Not every dev in Sony's stable can be called an A team anyway, you have ND, media molecule, Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital, the MLB the Show team in San Diego, the ones kind of A-/B+ are Sucker Punch and Guerilla Games. Zipper, Evolution and Bend are kind of second tier.

describing the team in reference to another one that sees there work as below them seems quite B team. I enjoy handheld games but I can understand someone labeling the developers as B teams, they are working on projects that the A team turned down.

I'd love to see a new RAD God of War on Vita, or a new RAD franchise on PS420. We need more from these guys.

Sony's going to make a God of War for Vita one way or another. I'm not too worried about that. Plus, for me the big question is going to be whether Vita can handle GoW3's massive moving environments. That's a whole new design paradigm compared to the games RAD made. Another team within Sony could probably handle it. Hell, Santa Monica is getting so huge, with multiple products. Maybe they do it.

that means they probably already have someone who's funding that whole project (sony most likely

Now that I think about it if they are so openly saying they are not working on Vita next I bet there next game probably isnt going to be published by sony like its been rumored.

Plus I am sure if Sony wanted to pick up whatever RAD's is up to they would have picked it up by now since they have been working it for a while and I would guess they would have shopped it to sony given there relationship and I guess sony wanted a second GOW psp game instead of picking up the console game they where/are working on.
Ether that or RAD really want there new game to be multiplat and didnt want to sign a deal with Sony for there new IP so they did another psp game and the HD collection as quick money makers to fund the new IP even more to shop to 3rd parties.

Ether way Ready at Dawn are a great little studio so what ever they got would be a good pick for any pub.

I just hope they already have a deal signed. I dont want to see them crawling back to the sony portable space after publicly making a big deal about not working on them anymore again.

That's very ignorant way at looking at things. They are smaller independent dev. Not really in position to set demands (talking about past years). Most of them are former Blizzard, Naughty dog employees but that doesn't mean someone is just going to give them 40 million dollars for a new IP. They proved with Daxter, and two GOW games that they are AAA caliber studio. Imo it's harder to make an amazing game out of already established IP from someone else. That usually doesn't turn so well.
After those games were made they clearly said no and set their own demand. To make a new IP for a console. They have been talking about it for years. I have a feeling it will be awesome.

Sony worked with SP for 10 years before acquiring them. Who's to say they won't do/try the same with RAD if this new IP turns successful (if Sony is indeed publisher in the first place)

Not really buying any of that. Retro has yet to make a new IP of their own (let alone a good one). They've yet to work on an HD console either, and we don't know if they'll be able to make a "proper transition" either. Yet I'm fairly certain most people wouldn't hesitate to call Retro an "A team".

vita is dead in the water in the west. The simply isnt a market here for games targeting older handheld gamers.

Ive heard they did great with the psp games. So im glad they are allowed to do their own thing on real hardware.

I think this is a bit of the case. If one team has only made some games for a certain type of platform, then it is hard to compare it to other developers in that regard. For example, Naughty Dog havnt made a single handheld game as far as i know. I'm sure that they would do a great job on it, but would it be a tier over i.e Bend on Uncharted? I'm not sure about that. But we'll see how Ready At Dawn's console game will be =)

But they were PSP gods, I would've loved a new GoW on Vita. The PSP ones played great, looked great and were good GoW entries, not some lame spin-offs, quality-wise.

If they got some of that magic on Vidda, man, that would've been great.

I doubt that Sony is funding them. They refused to work on the Vita, why would Sony fund them? Sony has enough studios to deal with next gen.

Because Sony is not going to let them slip away, and older job posting had PS3 listed as platform. And it said a console system with no "s". Not so long ago they started with "next gen" and removed PS3, so project was most likely moved to PS4. That is why I have sony as my pick. Clues were there.
They are word class developer and Sony is not someone whose going to force them to make something for which they have no passion any more.
