For me, it depends what it does/how impressive it seems. I spend quite a lot on gaming , so my "max" would be a lot higher than what the average person would pay. If it did absolutely everything I'd want, I'd probably stretch to about $800, but like I say it'd have to be perfect for me.

That said, I don't think I've ever bought a console at launch, so I'd likely wait at least 6 months, although I feel like I might be tempted to jump in day one this time for some reason.

The PlayStation 6 could be the best bang-for-the-buck proposition , but we'll have to wait and see.

Realistically, I'd possibly be in for $800. I'd be surprised if that's what it sold for though. It has to be lower, surely?

I expect it to be $799 or $899 at worst, but I'm willing to pay whatever it takes. It's my only gaming device and I'm not giving up on my primary hobby.

Depends on whether it'll have good games that aren't coming to PC and actually run at a decent framerate without looking like garbage.

I've only ever bought PlayStation for the Sony exclusives and my want for that has been drying up.
I might seriously skip the PS6 completely. Wait for the exclusives to be relaunched on PS7 (Or maybe Sony will change back to releasing games on PC).

Maybe £600-£700.

Need to have a reason though, and I don't mean hardware wise.

I mean software. Actual games made for the thing. But we know the first 5 years of next gen will be cross-gen so maybe there's no need to buy a PS6 at all.

This time I'll hold up.

No hurry to see a console with shit game library. PS5 was terrible in library and I can't see PS6 changing shit.

Maybe the PS6 portable, but getting a NS2 is looking more tempting than wait a PS6P.

For me personally there's no reasonable limit for me.
This is one of my most passionate hobbies so I'll pay whatever it takes within reason.

It's no different to me spending £4000 on a bicycle I want, or £3000 on a TV I fancy for my home cinema.

At the end of the day I slog 40hrs a week to buy the things I enjoy

Given the current state of Playstation, I wouldn't pay for PS6 at all especially the way Sony handles its gaming.
Kinda how I feel... I will probably splurge anyway. I think anything above $799 for the base PS6 would be insane if Sony wants broad market adoption. But we are living in insane times, so who knows.

I have never payed more than $500 for a console. I tend to wait for the slimmer cheaper edition. Seems those days are gone, so what is my limit now? Hard to say. For Sony specifically, I have skipped on the PS5 because of lack of first party titles or what few they have released were so insanely "modern audience Disney garbage" I lost all interest. The next console could be awesome, but the lack of decent games this gen is concerning and I doubt Sony will turn it around. If we can get games like 007 in 2026, others can do it as well.

If the software lineup is like it was this gen : zero.
If the software lineup gets back to what it was the gens before I'd have no problem with shelling out a grand if the hardware is worth it, too.

Sony is baking those high prices, it takes time!

800 Euro is my limit (same for GPUs).

I've always been someone who has purchased a Sony console on Day 1 since the PS2.

I'm actually one of the more fortunate that both my launch PS2 and 60GB launch PS3 are still alive and kicking even now.

I don't particularly want to go over $600 for a gaming console, especially with inflation now ticking up again for a great many things, not just in computers with AI sucking up SSDs and RAM.

If the PS6 comes in higher than $600, I'll more than likely wait for some time before I ever get one.

I think consoles launching at $800-$900 is a pretty rough sell outside of the high-end market and would force me to wait for a while to see something of magnitude large enough to warrant said purchase.

But you could make the argument that the market is now shifting entirely to said high-end and anyone below that is kind of left out.

Not a single Sony exclusive game in the making that even remotely interests me. Bald head simulator and God of Kitchen. No reason to buy a new PlayStation.

So to answer the question, 0€. At some point maybe 700€ if there is at least another good Uncharted game.

Give me a legit reason and I don't have a budget, but I need a reason to own it.

Not fair asking me though as I buy the latest hardware at launch
Exactly great exclusives and a shit ton of them, give me Uncharted 5, and get Bungie to actually make an exclusive that slaps, and no more ugly female protagonists.

Not buying it but if I was a fan I'd go for up to 1000. Come on, a 5 year old Steam Deck would be more expensive than that otherwise.

Qualifiers:
  • I think PS6 will be delayed by a year or two at least.
  • I just bought a PS5 Pro and I do most of my gaming on Steam, so I won't feel compelled to get a PS6 at launch.
  • I think inflation will be a bitch for years to come.
With all that, I think $800 will be the new $600 by the time we get to 2030 when I might be ready. I can see myself justifying $800 by then. Not that I want to pay that, or think it sounds like a good idea. Just being honest that I think my future self would find a way to justify it.
