I don't have a PS2 and a friend recently game me his old Playstation 1. I have played FF7 and FF8 on the PC and I enjoyed them. Can somebody recommend me some good rpg's for the Playstation 1 I just got?

Oh hell yes! Still my favorite Tales game.

PS1 RPGs are mad expensive these days. Be prepared to lay down some massive cash if you intend to play some of the best ones. These below usually go for not too much ($10-$20):

Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Parasite Eve

Are there any major differences between the PSP and PS1 version of both Tales of Eternia and Valkyrie Profile?

I'm going to get a PSP soon and this 2 games are the ones I want for it...

Pretty much what's been mentioned already.

Breath of Fire III and IV
Xenogears
Chrono Cross
Valkyrie Profile
Final Fantasy Tactics
Legend of Legaia
Vagrant Story

I don't know about Tales, but the PSP version of VP does have some blurriness in some areas. People have also said that there are some framerate issues, but I have not noticed anything like that yet.

Oh, I forgot:
Seiken Densetsu (aka Legend of Mana)
Saga Frontier 1&2 (hardcore to the bone)
Suikoden I&II
Super Robot Taisen Series

The ones I still have and play from time to time (for the most part) are:

Dragon Quest 4
FF1
FF2
FF9
Suikoden
Suikoden 2

Out of those, Suikoden 2 probably has the best chance of your enjoyment, which of course is the most expensive one there.

Some of my favorites...

Vagrant Story: Incredibly complex but well-designed, extremely-balanced gameplay systems that, if you take the time to master them, yield an immensely rewarding experience. The story's almost as complex as the gameplay, but it's well told (one of, if not the, finest examples of writing in a console RPG). The music is gorgeous, and the visuals and direction seep advanced ambition.

Dragon Quest VII: It's long. Very long. But it's one of the best examples on the PSX of excellent classic old-school RPGing. The class system is huge, there are a ton of worlds to explore, and the overall layout of the game's universe and scenario are very fun and both highly original as well as reminiscent of older classic Chrono Trigger.

Tactics Ogre: Still the best SRPG ever made.

Final Fantasy Tactics: Not as good as Tactics Ogre (and in fact it rips off and plagiarizes TO at every availabe opportunity), but it's still very well made and a lot of fun.

Final Fantasy IX: Probably my favorite of the main series PSX Final Fantasies, despite the longer-than-usual loading times / combat intros & outros. It's a Final Fantasy game... you should pretty much know what to expect here.

Grandia: One of the very best turn-based RPG battle systems ever designed (highly strategic, fast, and flexible) combined with a really awesome character development system that ties stat growth to use-to-increase skill in elemental magic and weapon proficiencies. Awesome game.

Suikoden & Suikoden II: More old-school RPGs, but again, two of the finest. Very original in their presentation and progression -- acquire 108 unique characters in each, build and improve/customize your own castle, and play through two of the best stories on the PSX RPG field.

Alundra: Zelda who? This game destroys all of Link's outings in Hyrule.

Arc the Lad II: Probably a somewhat unorthodox choice, but the game is really a blast. Great combat and a megaton amount of quests/sidequests, plus a great number of characters to use. It's also got some nice challenge to it -- some of the bosses and higher level quests can be fairly dangerous.

Star Ocean II: Easily the best of the 2D, and most of the 3D, Wolf Teamesque RPGs (the Star Oceans, the Tales Ofs, etc.). Great combat, branching storyline, different worlds to explore

And on and on and on. Really, the PSX is full of great RPGs; I still think it's the best system for the genre ever.

Arc the lad collection
Alundra
Breath of Fire series
Dragon Quest VII
Persona games
The many FF games
Suikoden games
Star Ocean II
Thousand Arms
Chrono Cross
Koudelka
Threads of Fate
Jade Cocoon
Saiyuki
Rhapsody
Beyond the Beyond
Legend of Legaia
Kartia
Dewprism
Dragon Valor
Grandia
Brave Fencer Mushashinden
Tales of Destiny games
The Legend of Dragoon
Lunar games
Parasite Eve games
Saga frontier games
Tactics Ogre
Vagrant Story
Valkyrie profile
Wild Arms games
Vanguard Bandits
Xenogears
Azure Dreams

Not counting many imports worth playing as well.

Unlike many people, technical problems do not stop me from playing games. They were all worth playing. Owning is debatable.

You must be a very cruel person to go recommending games like Beyond the Beyond and Rhapsody and Koudelka to people.

Shame on you.

Is it really plagiarism when both games have many of the same developers?

Are you able to afford all these recommendations or are you getting them through "other means"?

that makes absolutely no sense

Study up.

Self-plagiarism is the re-use of significant, identical, or near identical portions of one’s own work without citing the original work. More precisely, according to Council of Science Editors (CES)' White Paper on Promoting Integrity in Scientific Journal Publications (Editorial Policy Committee, 2005/2006), self-plagiarism refers to the re-use of portions of one's own work without acknowledging that one is doing so; thus, there is an intention to hide this from the readers. Consequently, self-plagiarism is frequently a problem in the academic field when authors re-use verbatim portions of their own copyrighted work in subsequent publications without attributing the previous publications (e.g., by citing them in the references section of the new publications).

You should play the following fantastic games:

1. Vandal Hearts 2
2. Jade Cocoon
3. Beyond the Beyond
4. Azure Dreams
5. Wild Arms 2
