Anyone who eats meat and is opposed to hunting is a massive hypocrite. You are just having someone else do the killing for you and in a far less humane way.
99% of hunters don't hunt just for trophies. They hunt for the meat and the experience of wildlife.
Shooting an unsuspecting animal is the most humane way they can possibly die. Animals don't die peacefully of old age surrounded by friends and family. They die mostly young and they either die eaten alive by a predator or by contracting a disease. Neither of which is preferable to a bullet and instant death in my opinion.
Hunting isn't easy and animals aren't defenceless. It takes huge skill and knowledge to track a deer down and get close enough for a shot without it hearing/smelling/seeing you. The hunter is at the disadvantage almost always.
Hunter tags, taxes and fees pay for almost all of the wildlife conservationd and habitat maintenance in the US and many other countries. Also for species that aren't hunted.
Yeah and almost always the specific animals they hunt have been designated as a problem individual eg. an old male that kills young ones but doesn't breed himself.
That and the money always goes towards conservation and/or helping the local people (who would otherwise probably poach the entire population for subsistence).
I hunt but wouldn't want to shoot an elephant or a lion. But if it's done like mentioned above I don't really see the big issue. It's not poaching.

Except the part where by hunting said animals they're putting massive amounts of money towards conservation efforts.
Shockingly, a lot of things in the world get more complicated than "this is good/bad".
