Red Dead Redemption |OT| Whistling Morricone in the desert

So any tips on the
second race from West Dickens? (The one where you're on a horse against 7 other guys, not the first chariot race.
I beat the first very easily but the second seems difficult. I only tried it twice and got frustrated.

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I finally put some hours into this game and I LOVE IT! The last game to get me this sucked in was Mass Effect 2. I did not like GTA 4 at all (I understand that it was made by a different studio within Rockstar) but this game is something special. I can understand why some people compared it to GTA because people always compare something new to something they are familiar with but this game is not GTA. It is an open world game but I feel like it's closer to ME2 and inFamous. This world feels alive like the fore mentioned titles and I'm thinking about playing RDR even though I just played it 3 hours straight (not including the time I played it earlier today). I know there is a ton left in the game I haven't even seen yet but I already know that this title is going to be one of my GOTY titles.

To the R* Games employers that are on this thread, thank you for this game!

Bring apples and horse pills.

Try using apples/horse pills. If that doesn't work go get a faster horse!

Any guides on horses? I think I have a good one, but it's very skidish around gun-fire. Is that something that gets better over time? Or is it a trait of the breed? I wish you could at least see what breed of horse you are on.

1. I can't look at crows the same way in real life anymore. I'm glad I don't own a gun.

2. How the FUCK did ANYONE create a country on land that housed DEADLY MOUNTAIN LIONS OF DEATH

this.

I found this cool horse i wanted, so i jumped on it, but it's stamina was dumb low compared to my current horse. if i took this new horse and spent time with it, does the stamina increase over time?

when I jumped on that horse in front of my horse, my horse kicked me.....lol

Wanted to buy this, not enough time to actually play games between finals and summer classes and work. God damn I skipped tri and now this, I feel dirty.

Stamina does increase over time, but I think it's just one bump as you "break" it in.

Aw shucks mister, you don't need any of that thar fancy book lurnin'.:lol

Is getting new guns in SP just random or what. I swear I just saw these guys and they started shooting at me, so I obviously killed them. And I got a sawed off shotgun from one of the dudes,

Sucks to be a lefty on the PS3 version. The weird control setup makes it doubly hard, I keep getting killed. I can't seem to master the whole gun-shooting/switching deadeye stuff.

Is there a trick to getting boar's tusks? I've been hunting the damn things for over an hour, only managed to kill 7, and out of those 7, I only got 2 friggin' tusks.

I don't want to put down animal bait, because there be cougars in these here woods :(

Man, you guys weren't kidding about arriving in
Mexico
(not sure if that's technically a spoiler, might as wall play it safe I guess). The music that kicks in is outstanding,
(The fact that its the first (only?) song in the game that has actually lyrics really was a pleasant surprise)
I'm grabbing the soundtrack ASAP (I know I know, shame on me for getting this far into the game without realizing I want it, heh).

Man, this game just gets better by the hour. GotY by a considerable margin at the moment, going to be hard to top this. Job well done San Diego :D

Sounds like it was the case and already in testing pre-release even though there has already been one update before this.

I didn't see another update download for the game after that announcement, so I don't think this would have been under the same patch testing restrictions that usually delay fixes. They probably used title managed storage to do a quick fix to MP.

So has anyone done the Lights Camera Action stranger quest? The second question mark is in the Thieves Landing saloon, but when I go inside there's no one there...

You have to play Liar's Dice in the saloon there. I'd suggest resting and coming back if there's no one at the tables, seems like sometimes no one is in a gambling mood.

I think I just saved a woman from a
cannibal. Some guy started firing at me as well as a woman screaming, killed the guy and there was a hogtied woman along with lots of bones that seemed human and half of some dude's face.
:lol

(random occasion in tags btw)

I don't understand why they take out all of the cool shit in free roam.

So far the Free Roam really is great and a lot of fun, but is really does have the potential to be phenomenal.

Some things that, in my mind, would push it to phenomenal:

-Full cities, bustling with npc's that offer stories, quests, etc. as they do in single player.

-All games fully playable. Poker, blackjack, liar's dice, horse shoes, etc.

-Wanted posters for criminals. From lowly local horse thieves to the insidious legends.

-Live train. A train full of patrons and valuables for heisting.

-Banks. Applies to first bullet point. Having a multiple banks to rob for gold/xp would be great. They could play out similar to the gang hideouts.

-Gambling Boat. How about a gambling boat that docks morning/night in the lower river. Would present place for gambling as well as robbery highjinks.

Those are just some of the things I would love to see in an open multiplayer game such as this. The sandbox is beautiful, and the toys are fun, but ultimately feel somewhat limited.

Ah, you're right it seems Liar's dice is only open during the morning. I always came at night. Thanks, just beat it. :D

The music in this game come from the Bully composer? Game sounds EXACTLY like Bully, which is a high compliment! Love Bully to death and it had an amazing OST. R* needs to stop licensing music with these kinds of composers at their call.

A few questions:

How can I tell where "New Austin" is? The first treasure map says it's somewhere in "New Austin", but I the map doesn't list it anywhere. The newspaper refers to New Austin as well, with a reference to Thieves Landing. Are the dotted lines on the map the edges of "regions", and is New Austin the "region" that Thieves Landing and the MacFarlane ranch are in?

Also, I don't think I got the "how to shoot behind you" tutorial. I've done about 7-10 story missions, should I have seen it at this point and I missed it? Or is it still going to be explained?

thanks-

I'm finally getting this first thing tomorrow, I'm so hyped. I've been on the other side of the country for the last two weeks and after 50 grueling hours of driving RDR will finally be mine.
I'll definitely have to meet some of you dudes to take out some posse's, I'll be playing on XBL. <3'

Nice, Bully had one of the best soundtracks ever. So good.

The rabbit's foot may help, it increases drop rates and money collected from looting. It's sold at the general store in Armadillo.

So I love Rockstar games, but I hate some of the mission types they use in most of their games.

Please tell me that there aren't any escort or protect the X missions.

Boy this game is buggy as hell..par for the course I suppose.
I was about to say the same. I was just on the mission where
you kill williamson and the army leader and right after I shot them
marston was just standing there and the mission wouldint end. it also wouldint let me press start or anything. Ended up waiting 5 minutes and the cutscene kicked in.

You have the same avatar as Blu_LED, AAAAAAHHH

Well, crap. I forgot that I turned Autosave off(so I could go on a killing rampage), so I just lost about 2 hours worth of work... :( Oh well.

There's a lot of them. Though I am not very far in, don't recall any real on foot escort missions yet. Just ones in carriages/wagons. All the missions where you have other people helping you out on foot they are armed and haven't seen any of them die.

Fair enough. If they don't get destroyed easily, I can put up with them.
As long as the AI is good, I can deal with escort missions. I'd rather have those than the PROTECT THE CARGO FROM ATTACKERS type missions. I hate those.
It's not like I won't enjoy the hell out of this game either way, can't wait.

giant bomb quick-look didn't do this game any favours. the game systems look maddeningly simple.

Has anyone else not received their $20 credit from Amazon yet? I usually get an email from them saying that it has been deposited into my account fairly soon after my product ships.
