Great news on finally banning those hateful subreddits.

It would seem reddit's misplaced anger at the Old CEO, finally brought the so called "censorship" redditors feared Elle Pao would bring.

Either ways, it would seem reddit wants to start making money and not be a haven for racist.

About fucking time.

Can't say I won't enjoy the drama though.

This is such a mess. They are giving new meaning to the phrase "half-assing it".

A clusterfuck of approved, quarantined and banned subreddits. There appears to be no discernible pattern...

And yet there's people still defending those subreddits because "they didn't break any rules." How hard is it to put up a rule that states "hey, no hate speech"?

reddit doesn't want to ban speech for being awful or hateful

they've said they're banning these subs because they're disruptive to the rest of reddit, which, while true, will probably not be enough to placate the absolutist libertarians who are all over that site

That's exactly what is causing this mess.

It seems like a stupid cycle. The users will flood another sub and that will become disruptive. The rule they're enforcing is super vague too. It's so half assed, I'm surprised if it pleases anyone in the end.

For a group of people who are given everything the, average white guy is so full of hate. I don't get it.

The average white guy on the internet hasn't set himself up in life to know the privilege that awaits him. So he lashes out at what is perceived as false rhetoric, which is easy to encounter around the internet when you lack the proper context. Also reading comments like yours there is a confirmation bias in thinking a lot of people have it out for white guys. And there is some trash rhetoric (i.e. your assertion that the average white guy is full of hate.) put out by an ever revolving door of naive young advocates who spew crap before they really learn tact and how to effectively contribute to a cause. The fallacy that fighting for a meaningful cause makes your fight meaningful.

Today, in addition to applying Quarantines, we are banning a handful of communities that exist solely to annoy other redditors, prevent us from improving Reddit, and generally make Reddit worse for everyone else. Our most important policy over the last ten years has been to allow just about anything so long as it does not prevent others from enjoying Reddit for what it is: the best place online to have truly authentic conversations.

Sooo....is /r/shitredditsays banned for their doxxing and vote brigading yet?

Like clockwork.

SRS hasn't been active in vote brigading in years, even going back to the last Reddit administration. The doxxing was hard to prove and more or less hearsay.

But sure, perpetuate the boogeyman lie. The last admins said it themselves, SRS hasn't been on their radar for a long time, and if they acted up, they'd be banned. Guess what? They haven't.

Even if that were true, that would be a weak argument, SRS participated in doxxing and vote brigading, and by now they are the only ones getting a free pass. Reddit admins should strive for consistency, banning SRS would've made a good example.
It makes you wonder, why they dont?

Because they haven't done fucking anything in that time frame.

....and nothing of value will be lost. Good move by reddit. Free speech doesn't mean freedom to infinitely harass others and spew vile hate speech at targeted groups and individuals. Let the little piss-ant cowards flee to another site on the internet. Their contributions to Reddit is not what makes Reddit great, they are what makes a large part of Reddit horrible. They are just delusional, frustrated young white men who think the world owes them something and found a sad little group of like minded people to gang up with and vent their frustrations upon the internet.

I love how people think this will be the downfall of Reddit, it will probably boost their revenue. I am sure all of the subreddits where they call everyone the n-word are the biggest revenue streams for Reddit. /s
