RedSunGamer - Japanese Gaming Life

My biggest issue with NSMB are the reused assets. The music is also terrible IMO and the art style is the weakest in the Mario franchise in my opinion.

I like Mario games. Just not NSMB.

I wouldn't mind the reused assets if they were good in the first place, but they've always looked so bland. The music being a fucking war crime doesn't help the presentation at all.

GunSlinger Stratos looks amazing and the discussion peaked my hype meter.

Holy shit, the food talk was awesome. The "homeless man's palette" comment made me almost crash my car XD

Salt is one of the cheapest flavor enhancers (msg, sodium, etc). Adding salt to overly sweet things like chocolate or a very ripe watermelon will balance out the sweetness. The result will usually be perceived as being more pleasant than having something too sweet or too salty. You'll find this principle a lot in Japanese seasoning: soy sauce (sodium) + sugar + sake. It's you're safe bet for scoring an "umai" ;)

Try a pinch of salt in your sweet chocolate milk, it will blow your mind.

Highlights that had me giggling like an idiot:

"It's not my cup of tea."

"You just threw it in the river."

"Boston HARBOR!"

and

"Obomabobo"

you missed out! the English VO is sooooo good. i guess you can check out Youtube videos of the English playthrough. it added a lot to the characters, imo. i can't find myself playing it without the VO.

Like with Xenoblade, it classed up the joint after nearly every localized one either being unaccented talking head American accents.

Or maybe its the anglophile in me at work one.

just started watching the 3DS LL stream on Twitch. where is Mehdi from? i can't figure out the accent.

Yup, born and raised in Morocco. Leaned English during my years studying abroad in France, the US, and Japan though, so I guess that's why my accent in English has a little bit of everything in it haha.

Loved the arcade talk.

The cynic in me thinks that the deficient on-line of Japanese console games is deliberate, out of fear of gamers staying home and not spending money at the arcades.

So RevenantKioku is on this episode?

This podcast is mining the depths of Japan-GAF in a futile attempt to fill the giant hole let by Kyle. Come back to us soon!

Well everybody I've recruited for the RSG podcast lives in Japan and they just happen to be on the Gaf, it wasn't intentional.

Hopefully Kyle will be back after he returns from his Vacation in the States.

RSG #46 Run Time is 02:35:08 and it should hit all your usually feeds in about 5 hours, I'm off to bed it's 4am here in Japan. Good night.

Corrections:
I said orcs instead of ogres like a dummy.
You don't lose half your money but a smaller percentage.

More if they exist. Sorry!

Didn't they make it tons faster for the new demo?

You can now fast-forward through attacks by holding A, but deliberately selecting the whole party's commands has gotten to be overly laborious. It's frustrating to go through that rigmarole, only to finish the enemy on the very next hit.

Oh boy another episode, thanks for everything! Pooslinger? was good stuff. DjMiz has been more funny lately, at least to me you sound more relaxed and also admitting to being scared of RE4 was quite endearing.

Steven is on vacation so we've drafted in Eric aka @revenantkioku to talk about Dragon Quest on the Wii. TGS is coming next month so Zasshi time is a little bit on the thin side, so Elliot performs his best sarcastic Japanese voice to try to fill the gap.

Great DQX impressions from Eric. It seems like everyone likes that game much more than they thought they would.
I thought that the DQX part was a bit too long. But well, what can you do if there aren't any new releases the week before.

haha, crying stories

Martin is a mayo defender so he's my new best friend. altho I will have to say that Japanese mayo and American mayo taste completely different. CAINS mayo is the best. it's nothing like that Helmann's shit.

I know that crying feel Ryouga. Thank goodness they haven't made a great game about a boy and his dog because that would wreck me. I'd be out of commission for weeks

It's not that bad, I've been here for 10 months and haven't seen either.

Maybe these are gaijin-podcaster-seeking cockroaches? I don't want them feasting on my souls (even though I live in Australia, land of the freakiest, deadliest bugs and arachnids man cannot even imagine). But yeah insects don't generally bother and the cockroaches I see aren't the flying type (thank god).

Good Dragon Quest X discussion. I'm inclined to agree with Eric about the Game of the Last Three Years thing! As for crying at movies/games I tear up all the time, not for any particular reason even, just get sad when movies are coming to an end, or games or whatever. I'm a baby.

Oh wow, I had no idea you wrote for SciFi Japan, Elliot! I love that site. Also, yeah Garo was pretty brilliant. Nice to have a darker, more 'serious' Toku series.

I've never seen a cockroach in my whole life.
If I was in Japan and I would see one and than it would start fucking flying at me, I would leave the country and burn it down on my way back home. I can't have disgusting insects assaulting me.
