Reggie Confirms Wii Online Play 2nd Quarter 2007

George-W-Bush.jpeg

That's earlier than I expected. I'm still playing Phantasy Star Online: C.A.R.D. Revolution. Slow down Nintendo!

Nintendo fans are going to have to wait half a year longer to do something people with PS2's and Xbox's have had for years?

That's wonderful!

Online games aren't due to become profitable unitl at least March.

Besides online play, I need a more alive feeling when I pop my wii on. They should add a Friends channel, where you can see who is online, send/recieve msgs, see what everyone is playing and what games they currently have with online play capabilities.

360 has spoiled me, and none of this is particularly hard to do. wii just feels so "dead" when I'm in the menus right now.

Say it with me.....Friends Channel.

it's cool, i never really cared about online gaming anyway. this way they get it right. really it's all about playing with all my friends in PERSON anyway. that's so much better. nothing like a huge Mario Party... party... with all my friends there so i can trash talk them to their face!

take your time nintendo and get it right! when they do finally get online, then i totally will care about online in the future

Nintendo really are stupid. The Xbox proved last generation that online gaming works, and even now the 360 has proven that people want to play games online. And what have Nintendo done? Silly friend codes, and only a handful of DS games that have poor online utilisation.

I sure as hell hope Smash bros has some sort of ranking system and achievements (or something to reward playtime), since this'll probably be our first official online game for the Wii... sigh.

I hear you.

I can imagine what this will be like when it's online. Pressing the A button rapidly, then cursing at the other Miis.

yeah maybe there will even be rad voice insult macros in place of actual voice chat! i'd get a kick out of spamming 'I 1up'ed you!' every time i roll a 10.

I just set up my wireless connection in my house today, and went online for the first time with my Wii. I agree, Microsoft has spoiled me with the high quality of XBOX Live (basically why is Wii online so slow?!)

My Wii is online, but it's not doin' much. I added my friend and he sent me over 2 Mii's and message. It was weird coming home tonight and seeing my Wii's blue light breathing...kind of creepy.

Anyway, the Wii would be UNSTOPPABLE with a solid myspace-type community along with solid online games! Plus a good tweaking of the server speed!

If you want to get technical, isn't elebits online? at least as far as supporting user made addons and online updates?

That's not exactly the same thing as fully supporting online, but in a technical sense, it is an online game and you don't have to pay extra for it (at least not from what we know so far)

So far it sounds like all the wii online functions are a clusterf**k, so i hope the take their time with the rest of the stuff and improve on what they've got already.

it's a good likelihood that the Japanese version of Elebits might go online, but just not the US version. That would explain it

I think that counts as Connect24, not online play. Connect24 is already here with mii parade.

god i hope you're wrong.. that would just be stupid and gimpy and I'd be a little pissed about it.

I'm personaly just as excited about this kind of functionality (user made content) as i am about online gameplay. So i have really high hopes for that game. If it's not online, i will mark it off my list..

It is!

PC ftw

Nintendo is lately pissing me off...
you know everyone was getting ready to start a bitchfest because they thought that Sony was the only one unable to deliver a online system at launch, but they did.. meanwhile Nintendo can't get up a online service for about half a year after launch!

OK, I want Mario Party 8 online(and it better punish disconnectors), Mario Strikers, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and Madden 08 online for 2007.

how is the Wii first-party schedule looking? I know about Metroid, Elebits and Mario, but what else is coming?

one, Elebits isn't first party. And two... there is Mario Party 8. And Wario Ware if you're in the US

It's funny because, eeven though they've been able to watch Microsoft and Sony do it for like 5 years, they'll still manage to screw it up. Not that I mind. I don't see the draw in playing many traditional Nintendo games online anyway. Mario Kart and SSB, obviously, but I can live without it.

According to the gamespot hands-on, the level sharing Connect24 feature is in the game.

http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/...=topslot;title;1&om_act=convert&click=topslot

Finally, if you ever get tired of playing all the preset stages in the game, Elebits will offer an edit mode that will let you populate any of the rooms in the game with your own arrangement of objects and Elebits. Each item you insert into a custom level will subtract from an overall cost, so you can't cram infinite Elebits in and drag down performance. You'll also have to unlock furniture and other objects (by playing the main single-player mode) before you can place them in your own custom level. Once you've got a level made, you can share it with anyone on your Wii friends list. You'll also be able to take screenshots while you're playing and share those with your friends, as well.

Wait. You need to be rewarded for playtime? I usually try to play games that are their own reward. I guess that's why I'm an ntard.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Edit:

Here. We're happy you wasted your time playing our game. Have a cookie.

Actually, elebits is from konami..

from a first party perspective, disregarding online functions...

Mario
Metroid
SSBM
Animal Crossing
Fire Emblem
That NST action game where you swing the wiimote

And Lots of casual oriented games (brain age... nintedogs... that kind of stuff)

Not sure how much of that stuff is online but ssbm and AC are for sure... (ssbm may have less than full functionality due to the incredible difficulty of getting fighting games to function properly over a network)

Down the road, you can count on F-zero, starfox and all there other major franchises.

Hey, Nintendo really did kinda drop the ball with online play for the Wii even though they said they wouldn't.

This obviously means that every single Nintendo fan in existence is going to defend them for this even though they've pretty obviously made some mistakes here. I mean, I'm a Nintendo fan, and I can hardly contain the urge to mention loudly to anyone who'll listen and everyone who won't that I don't give a shit about online play until Nintendo does it and does it right.

Oh, and they didn't screw up the component/S-video cable thing at all. You see, I'm a Nintendo fan, which means I can't ever say they made a mistake.

Does this mean SSB will miss out? That would be a major pain in the arse.

Pain in the arse?

I probably won't get it if it doesn't have it. I love the gameplay, but I'm just not a party type gamer. I don't get that many opportunities to play with friends like that. I NEED online play.

Amir0x said:
yeah but is it the English copy they're playing, or the Japanese copy? Does it say?

Just says final version in anticipation of the Dec release. Watching the hands on movie now to see if they say.

EDIT; Well its localized if that helps. I'm betting its in.

personally I like wiiconnect24 style features (trading stuff, sending messages) more than actually playing games with others online, but then again i haven't been spoiled by xbox live or anything.

online multiplay from the getgo is kinda pointless if the userbase isn't there though. waiting til 2nd quarter isn't THAT big of a deal.
