Regional lexicon that bothers you?

Any area where calling someone a "fuck boi" is considered a grave insult to one's manhood and the person is actually insulted.

I won't argue pop or soda, since it depends where you are from but calling all soft drinks "coke"? What about Sprite, Fanta etc are they all called coke?

Yes waitress, I would like a Fanta.

I'm pretty sure everyone that refers to it as Coke substitutes soda when necessary. Coke is the generalized term when specifics aren't needed. When needed, soda or soft drinks are used.

I was also kidding around with the exclamation in my first post. I'm on the 'soda' side of this debate, no pop for me.

I'm from a region where it's coke and I've never heard anyone refer to them as soda or soft drinks. Maybe soft drinks in some kind of formal report or something, but never soda or pop. It's always coke.

Pop is kinda adorable. It's like they stepped right out of the 50s. Coke is just weird, though. It's like referring to all video game consoles as Nintendos.

"Finally, the new Nintendos are releasing!"

"Yeah, which Nintendo you getting?"

"The Xbone!"

I had no idea that ɒrɨɡɒn and Washington said pop too.

That soda "island" in Missouri always perplexes me.

It's pretty much the greater St. Louis area. Around the time soda/pop was invented, St. Louis was something of an "Eastern" city in character (I mean, we had both the Olympics and the World's Fair in 1904)

Socal people putting "The" in front of freeways.

"The 405", "The 101", "The 5".

Drives me nuts.

It's saying "The 55 freeway", just dropping the "freeway" bit.

"Take the 55(freeway) South, exit on blahblah"

What's the easier alternative there? Take 55 South? That sounds weird.

I'm a pop -> soda convert. Grew up saying "pop" then made the switch in my teens. I have to say, though, that "pop" is making a comeback in my mind. It seems to describe the texture of the drinks better. Maybe I'll switch back at some point...

This "Coke" thing is incredibly weird. Not just weird, but factually incorrect. A Coke is a Coke, a Sprite sure as hell isn't. It's like calling every chocolate bar that exists a "Snickers".

Eh, people have a habit in the south of referring to things by the most popular brand. It's not just Coke in my experience (though that is probably the most common). It's normally when you don't actually care all that much about the specifics of what you're getting.

"I'm gonna grab a Coke"....or whatever other soda is in the fridge.

"I'm gonna grab a Slim Jim"...or Jack Link's or whatever other beef jerky product we have.

"Imma get a Twinkie"...or whatever other snack cake etc etc

If you are actually ordering something at a restaurant you'd say the specific type of soda you want. If you want a Sprite you wouldn't say Coke.

Haha I actually used to call playing video games "playing Nintendo" growing up.

These have wildly different names across the UK:

I call it a breadcake. It annoys me when people call them buns or barms (or even worse, Teacakes! Teacakes have raisins in them!).
