Reminder to SEGA - How is that SoA sequel going?

It's been over a month since 1up reported on a rumor that SoA2 was in the works. I demand to know if this is true. If it finally happens all is forgotten SEGA! Screw Brawl, screw FF13, screw all upcoming games, nothing would compare to a true Skies of Arcadia sequal.

ah the beuaty that was SoA...(never forget)

I'm getting to the point where I'm practically writing off Sega entirely.

:(

Thank goodness for Crush on the PSP. It was nice to see a Sega logo on a cool game that wasn't called "Virtua Fighter" for a change, even if it was developed by Zoë Mode/Kuju.

...so sad.

SoA sequel could do a lot to bring them back in my eyes. Make it happen, Sega.

Yes please...

That reminds me though.. gotta finish the first game (kinda got of track with 19 other games, before i could finish it) i'm so lost in what i'm going to do in SoA atm....

Skies of Arcadia 2: Wii're flying again! (bad bad joke)

Your next step would be lambda-bursting a bunch of random encounters I suppose.

Silicon Knights will be focusing their full efforts on this once the issues with Too Human are smoothed out.
What? Sega does have an unannounced project in the works with them still... you love toying with people too much dammit. ;_;

Not a fan of Condemned, Outrun 2, or the Yakuza series?

They're not what they once were, but they've still got some quality in them.

Eh, I think in the year 2010 (if Sega is still around) people will still be saying the same things about Sega regardless of what they publish.

Oh wait, I forgot about the Phoenix, that'll rectify everything in 2009 I suppose.

Well it's not like it takes a lot of effort to make a Wii game.

Nope not if you want your game to SUCK .... BIG TIME.....

Maybe this time they'll make a not-so mediocre RPG.

Step 1: Remove all random battles

Step 2: If step 1 is unavoidable, then please FOR THE LOVE OF JEBUS REMOVE RANDOM BATTLES WHILE IM EXPLORING THE SKIES WITH MY SHIP!

Step 3: If step 1 is unavoidable, make it so that I don't have to face a battle every 2.5 seconds.

Step 4: If step 1&3 are unavoidable, make the battle system actually fun with some depth.

Step 5: ???

Step 6: Profit

Serious? That's like not wanting to shoot in a FPS. Keep in mind that Skies was released in 2000. I loved the battle system and to date this is one of my favorite RPGs. Most reviewers also agreed and I recall this game scored very well. I can't wait for a sequel.

I'm expecting them to suddenly show off a trailer of this game randomly at their booth during the next e3 or something. Or at least they BETTER.

I don't know what that rumor was based on, as the SoA team is working on Valkyrie of the Battlefield.
Wait, the internal Overworks team still exists? I thought Sega rearranged everything internally...am I confusing them with another company?

True, but lowing the encounter rate would have made the experience much better. Having random encounters every 5 seconds just makes it frustrating, especially when you're trying to find something.

I think they are referred to as WowWorks now after the reshuffling.

That picture really makes me feel all nostalgic. The atmosphere in that game was terrific imo.

My idea for dealing with the battles while flying would be that enemies would appear randomly in the sky and you could shoot them down by using your Wii remote to fire the ship's cannons. Think the sailing in Phantom Hourglass. You'd get some XP for this, but not as much as letting them attack you on the ship and fighting a full battle.

Of course, fighting the cannons around other ships or other hostile areas would trigger ship battles, so you'd have to pick your poison in some areas.

I know the following doesn't have all that much to do with the rumoured SoA2, but this info popped up and I suspect most of the people in this thread would be interested in it. These rumours also are too unsubstantiated to warrant a real thread anyway.

http://www.jeux-france.com/blog179347_Lwiigi :
The magazine RolePlayingGame, specialized in console RPGs, has these rumours in their "Rumors and Phantasms" section. This info is fairly interesting, if they would turn out to be true. Anyway:

- The famous Ogre Battle series, with entries on the SNES, N64 and PS1, could make a return on the Wii, with a brand new game. Yasumi Matsuno would be working on it.

- A new game for the Golden Sun series would also be showing up on the Wii, with Camelot back in charge. According to "hallway rumours" the game would be more of an ActionRPG using the Wiimote/Nunchuk.

Edit: Oh, it's on G0n1nt3nd0 too; http://**********.com/?p=30026

Square is going to sell ogre battle?!?!? omg1zz
Was it ever disclosed which 2 franchises were supposed to have been sold by SquareEnix a while ago? And then there's the EGM rumours. And Nintendo buying Monolith Soft. And Matsuno showing up in that Wii video.

It all adds up. Ogre Battle Wii. :O!

I wish Sega would make a sequel. SoA was amazing.

While your at it Sega, why not port the original onto the DS or the Wii? Or PSN/Live/VC?

I didn't see that rumour, or maybe I ignored it because I don't want to get my hopes up. A worthy sequel would be one of the greatest things of all time though.

Well, SoAL on GC is runnable on a Wii...

Because then it wouldn't be a port, but a huge mofo'n downgrade. The kind of downgrade that would shatter planets, and cause tsunamis.

Downgrade in technical aspects though, I'm sure the game will play the same (ie. shitty) as it always has.

Yes, yes! Quadruple the experience and reward rates and quarter the encounter rate. In the overworld. The dungeon encounter rates were actually less frustrating than overworld encounter rates.

QFT. Here I am, on the bridge of Delfinus, protected by many inches of armor... I know, let's go out on the deck and fight some retarded flyingonionfuck!

would still play the sequel no matter what :(

Awesome @ Ogre Battle & Golden Sun rumours. If there's one thing I want to be done in gaming, it is to have the entire Ogre Battle saga completed.

And I don't care what Camelot do with Golden Sun - they are already accomplished enough, an action RPG would be unreal with Sakuraba's tunes pumping out.

If Vyse pops up in Sega Superstar Tennis you can almost guarantee a sequel.

Sumo Digital have nothing to do with Skies of Arcadia. They just exist to rape Sega IPs (in good ways) so even if you saw Ryo or Vyse, it doesn't mean Shenmue III or SoA 2 are coming.

I'm aware of the devs but my point stems from the fact that Amigo appears as a playable character in Tennis - just in time for the Samba on Wii. It's part of my tenuous thinking that if Sega were clever, they'd use the Tennis game to promote other games - I kinda expect a SC5 part 3 soon based in this, and conversely, NiGHTS to be playable in the Tennis game. Thus my thinking on the topic is if Vyse were to appear in Tennis it may be indicative of a impending Sequel announcement.

Or it could be nothing - but seeing as Sega is dipping into it's IP vault (and the fact the impossible NiGHTS sequel has happened) anything is possible.

I think I played about the first 6 hours of this game.

Had to stop because of the 500 pounds of random battle per square inch they packed into the game.

"Back off! Alpha Storrrrrrmmmm!" X 10,000 = :(

I remember when I used to play Skies of Arcadia. Such a fun game. That game is incredibly fresh, and still is today thanks to the ten million FPSs being developed. :D I can almost hear myself screeching at the T.V., "No, this can't be happening. I'm not ready to deal with this kind of pressure again. RUN!!!," spinning the analog any which way to try to escape the inevitability of battle.

The only thing the Dreamcast could say in response was, "Breep............Breeppp.....Breeppp.........Breeepppp........Breepp...Breepp..................Breepppppp......BreeppppBreepppBreepBreeeeeppppppp...BREEEEPPPPPP!!!!!.............WHIZZZZZZ...."

Ah, fond memories. Now that I think about it, I haven't even beaten the game, yet. I need to get back to that one. And as for the sequel, I would love to see a Skies of Arcadia 2 on the latest popular video game console the Dreamcast Realized. With motion sensing (even by moving your eye), body graphing and indexing, heat signature recognizing, cell processing, and a x2016 drive speed, this game would push the BD-HD DVD to the limit in terms of both visually and auditorally. This game will be masterful on my holographic multi-dimensional flip-panel 72-inch LHD (Limitlesss High Definition for those not graced with tech savyness) as I listen through 22 channels of future-compressed data at 5.15 TB/s. Please Sega, make it happen! :D
