Resident Evil 4 HD Project - Progress Thread

So glad to hear you're making backups of your work. I've seen too many an awesome project lost to crashes and other random events. This is probably my favorite game, and I modded the crap out of the PC version and even made a few textures of my own. This is amazing work and I can imagine this looking damn impressive in a portfolio.

Still the best piece of modding going on. The 'demo' of the first few areas was awesome. I eagerly await more releases and I'm glad that you're gaining a bit of steam.

How is this so good? You should be getting paid to do this.

They really should. Capcom, literally, SERIOUSLY, should hire them to finish this pack, and then officially release it and watch the sales of RE4 for the PC jump by some crazy exponential factor.

But they probably won't because that's something Valve would do. Not Capcom.

A few more shots and a video are up at the site. Enjoy!

PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE finish this :). I'm really rooting for you guys, it would be fantastic. I replay RE4 every other year or so, looking forward to one of those playthroughs being with your fantastic textures!

You guys should totally follow this project on Twitter. It lead me to the RE4HD page, which has a fantastic video showcasing the differences.

Here's a link to the page with the video that you should all check out. The game is looking stunning.

It's one of the best examples of a game looking exactly how your mind remembers it looking, making your rose tinted memories a reality.

I just replayed this section over the weekend, so how it looks (at least how the PC version looks anyway) is fresh in my mind.

This is a huge improvement.

wait the comparison pics compare it to the HD steam version?

Nope the comparison shots compare it to the Original Texture setting on the Steam version. Assuming you haven't played that version, you might wonder why - couple of reasons:

* Most textures haven't been revised - they've been upscaled and had a filter applied.
* The textures that were revised often don't match the original textures or don't map correctly on the3D model, and our aim is to stay true to the original.

For comparison's sake, though, take a look at the UHD version:

And then compare to this comparison shot:

Thanks!!

Man, with everything looking so damn good now it just highlights the lack of any sort ambient occlusion. Has anyone gotten any form of AO to work in this game?

I'm actually waiting until you guys finish the project so I can play the game. I know you're doing this in your spare time and there's no estimate, but could you give an approximate percentage of how much work done so far?

Fantastic job. One of the few fan-made texture modding projects that doesn't give me a headache... aka taking low res textures and adding noise everywhere. Get to work on skyrim immediately!

God Damn.

My biggest fear with this pack is that, like a lot of texture packs, it would end up looking too clean and not faithful enough to the original art assets, and I love RE4's unique sense of grittiness. My fears are already starting to be allayed with that last video.

So what happened? Did Capcom literally just use a bunch of photos of Spain as the textures for RE4?
