Resident Evil 4 HD Project - Progress Thread

I have no idea why Capcom haven't employed and showered you guys with money yet. Attention to detail is amazing.

Not to belittle his work, but literally anyone with a good camera and very basic knowledge of texture mapping could do this, most of all Capcom's already hired professional texture artists. What's impressive is the sheer amount of time it takes to do, which Capcom (and any sane company) would never invest in.

Of course this looks very impressive and if it gets the OP some attention that would be fantastic! :)

The amazing work continues. I'm impressed in equal measure with the quality of the work and that you guys are really following through. It's too good to be true! :)

crisdecuba, do you have any sense of how these textures will affect the system requirements for the game? Will my GTX 460 768MB be able to handle it?

This one is amazing, the texture has the actual text of the document it represents. Great job.

That's the main thing: Capcom isn't willing to invest this much work into a re-release of a nine-year-old game. The ROI just isn't worth it for professionally paid artists at Capcom, at lest not for doing a complete retexture of the game since Capcom did upgrade some of the textures.

If RE4 were made today by the same artists who did the original game, on today's hardware, this is probably what it would look like.

If we can just find Sarah Amy Elizabeths grave we could probably find all the rest of the tombstones!!!! (This is a crazy adventure I hope noone actually goes on)

Look what someone found:

Alas, no other tombstones found from that area, and this one is too low quality to use, but it's fun nonetheless.

Whoa.

Can you ask whoever sent you the photo to send a higher quality one, or is it not worth the effort?

Nope, it was found online (see the URL of the image). Also, Capcom switched out the decorative design at the top with a new one (which we already found /incorporated into the revised texture).

Edit: My mistake - they edited the hand a little bit, but the rest of the decorative design at the top is from the original tombstone.

It does seem higher res than the in-game texture though, so you can definitely use it as a reference. At least to eye-check details, like the text on the tombstone.

Yup. The problem is that that tombstone is repeated throughout the graveyard about 3-4 times, and used in a strange, slightly stretched manner on the other tombs right next to the church. So it would be as if a string of Sarah Ann Elizabeths, all married to George Lamberts, died and were buried in the area. :) I went with somewhat difficult to discern Latin text because it looked good in all locations and didn't scream out to the player, "Look at the repeated texture!"

Also, it's now possible to edit environmental 3D models (all credit goes to Son of Persia (user from “Resident Evil Modding Forum”) who developed the needed tools to edit 3D environmental models). We're using this to address only errors / glaring issues. Some examples:

Note - the face is a WIP and doesn't look right. Just showing what's possible - it will be improved.

I take my hat. Cheer up and enjoy the road.

Woah, you all are going all out. That's going pretty in-depth with solutions. You're straight up fixing the game now.

This WIP thread never ceases to amaze me.

I eagerly await the day that this version of the game is something I can play start through finish.

This is seriously psyching me up for replaying this next year. By then, I should have a new PC actually capable of handling RE4 UHD on max settings, and with this pack, damn.

Holy shit. This is awesome news. To call this a Definitive Edition is an understatement!

Though to be perfectly honest, I never noticed any of these, aside from the fugly retina scanner face model. But I guess such things are less visible with low resolution of both the textures and the game itself, and stick out like a sore thumb once everything becomes crisp.

Oh neat :OO

So with these editing tools could someone theoretically add more edge loops to existing models, or is it just working with what's already there?

D:

You guys are geniuses. Real geniuses.

To what extent is it possible to edit models with these tools?
Could you straight up replace them with higher detail ones?
And would these tools work with any other games running in Dolphin?

Because if so...

They transitioned this mod over to the RE4 Ultimate Edition on PC(praise 60fps), so don't expect any of the model editing stuff to transition over.

So editing models is possible but cumbersome cause it has to be done in a makeshift editor rather than in a DCC like Maya/Max/Blender?

If weapon models and other low poly stuff could be redone with decent speed, I would recommend to increase the team with 2-3 modelers!

Reasonably, they should use that tool just to fix model errors, not to replace them with higher density versions. They'd never finish the project at that rate. Keep it pure, and let someone else go on a model replacing spree after release if they so desire ;)

That's my suggestion anyway

Also, maybe George Lambert was a mad scientist who cloned his wife Sarah, but they kept dying soon after he re-married them. Almost fits, in a sort of... insane.. Resident Evil horror-science sort of way. Only half serious! Latin text is a good in-between :)

I am at the lake with el lago and installed the pck, but nothing change.

shouldn't at least the typewriter look different?

The demo pack is only for the prologue -- everything until the first village battle is over and Leon says, "Where's everyone going? Bingo?"

Some updates from the church area (and a blast from the past):

Looks fantastic as usual.

It's nice to see you guys keeping true to the original look of the game. Time and time again you see texture packs for games that completely betray the original intended look of the game.

That cloth texture in particular works wonderfully. Is the hole in the shadow of the central candle something you're planning to edit, or is it too minor to bother?

"Cris" and "Albert" working on a Resident Evil game.
Is this reality?

Anyway, so far, so awesome. I've already purchased RE4 over three different platforms, so I've yet to grab the more recent PC version. Once this project nears completion, it will be on the top of my to do list.

Damn, those 3D model updates are pretty impressive. Not sure if I asked this before, but how far can you go with modding the game? Is it possible to add shaders such as motion blur or new lighting alá ENB?

All this needs now is someone figuring out a way to add SSAO to the game.

Seriously, thanks to you Cris and Albert for spending the time on this. If any game deserves this kind of treatment, it's RE4.

Guessing you could sync up with ENB and make a barebones patch for that.

As always, Redfield and Wesker, you guys are doing awesome work. You are like... saints of post-release port fixing.

You would be on a Mount Rushmore along with Durante.

It's funny to go back in the thread and read the posts by the doubters. It pays off to be positive rather than negative all the time. Keep up the good work!

really wish I hadnt played this recently and just waited for this mod :(
