Resident Evil 4: What is the Big Deal?

I guess we just have to agree to disagree, sometimes in RE 4 I feel like I should be fighting Cacodemons and Imps and such, ah well.

You keep complaining about having to fight enemies that you weren't expecting...You want a flashing neon sign to pop up before every encounter or something? Monster jumps out and you and you fill it full of holes. Seems pretty simple to me. Sure if you were expecting to get rushed by a bunch of monks you might have had a grenade ready to throw but you survived so now you continue. What's the problem? How is that trial and error?
I believe what he is trying to say is that they suddenly spawn out of nowhere and surround you; there is no logic to them being there except that one triggered the spawn.

I can't understand all this hate...I guess now it's cool to hate RE4. -__-

Not surprising. People do that to popular games all the time. OoT, FFVII, etc.

But FFVII really isn't all that special :/

Anyways, If you hate RE4, you hate games.

I never said I hate the game or anything, I just said that it isn' the best game ever or whatever.
I agree. That title is shared between both of the N64's Zeldas. :D

Dude don't compare cack like FFVII to RE4. That should be a bannable offense. OoT is great and all but doesn't compare to Majora's Mask in the end.

Note I said "popular" games. ;)

. I'm playing through it now and its the same old RE with a little tweaks here and there, still feels just as clunky and I'm fighting more against the controls than the enemies.

.

HA! it is in no way like the old RE.....the older RE games were ALOT slower, ALOT scarier, and ALOT HARDER DIFFICULTY. they werent as repetitive as RE4 was, thats for sure

I rank Resident evil 4 among my top five games of all time. Great gameplay combined with beatiful visuals. I rarely replay games, but I have played this one through four times.

I bought RE4 when it hit $20 after hearing so many glowing reviews for the game. The only reason I made it as far as I did is because I continually convinced myself that it was a good game. Eventually, though, I stopped after I realized it was putting me to sleep.

Hated the controls, wasn't impressed by its graphics, got tired of fighting similiar enemies from one area to the next, and I couldn't stand the the puzzles portions (what the hell are puzzles even doing in a action heavy game like this?).

Fair enough. What game/games don't you find objectionable? Please, fucking name them. I need to know, and thusly play these superior games.

I really liked FF VII! The timer thingy ruined MM for me. OoT ftw. IMO of course.

It is like throwing a spark onto a gas leak.

if you start a thread with the title "Resident Evil 4: What is the Big Deal?" it's pretty obvious what sort of response you are going to get!

I think RE4 is an absolutely fantastic game, but I also think your opinion is just as valid. Games as a medium are as subjective as any other art based entertainment form. Not everyone will like it. That doesn`t make them stupid or lame. It just means they`re looking for something else in games. There`s nothing wrong with that. That`s what makes gaming so great.

Well, in the case of RE 4, it is set up a lot like the old Doom games, a lot of get the item, hit the switch, enter a new place, as I said before "roadblock" would be a more appropriate term to call this thing instead of "trial-and-error." Also, you are right about Mission: Impossible, god that was such a piece of shit game.

Can you record yourself playing? I honestly want to see!
