Resident Evil 6 for PS4 & XB1 |OT| Was it always this awesome?

Honestly, I really suck at this game. I die about 10-15 times in each chapter(normal) and I get an E rank in Mercenaries.

And since everyone is putting it out there, I prefer Rev 2's raid mode over any optional RE game's mode.

It's certainly closer to RE4 than the older games, but really, it's kinda it's own beast. It's very different from most other action in general, honestly. It's gameplay is very unique, with perhaps the only decent comparison being Vanquish. If you want something closer to 4, I'd try RE5, or maybe RE Revelations 1 and 2. They're all actually much closer to 4 than 6 is, I think.
I have played 5 and enjoyed it. Not as much as 4 but I just think that was due to the environments, etc., 4 just felt really oppressive to me especially at the beginning, but I enjoyed 5. I have not played Vanquish though so not sure what it is like. Still with this feedback, I am willing to give it a go, especially at $20. I could have just rented it from GameFly and played something else instead. That happens a lot with me. Thanks for the feedback.

At a core level, RE6 still emphasizes the "shoot->melee" gameplay loop of RE4. However, there are numerous systems added on top of it, such as roll dodges, sliding, quick shots, parrying, and an expanded non-prompted melee system with attacks such as shoulder checks. So a bit of the RE4 DNA is still there, but it features major advancements. It may be a bit too different if you're expecting something closer to RE4 with just a few small-ish tweaks/additions here and there (RE5 fits this role nicely), but with an open mind I think RE6 can be enjoyed by fans of RE4.
Okay, that does sound like some major advancements from 4. But I am cool with advancements, in fact I welcome them, so I will keep an open mind.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Oh ok I thought I had some thing set wrong lol

Game looks perfect on my screen.
Check your PS4 and TV settings please. ^

EDIT:All Tv's are different but here's my current settings:
FYI if you have expertly calibrated your tv the # 6 on the brightness setting menu should still be visible.
My brightness settings are 13 as we speak.

No banding, excellent blacks, game looks awesome, played Chris camping and the first shot where he is the helicopter wowed me
I haven't been wowed by a game since Bloodborne. Textures are as good as a remaster could get, but the freaking character models are gorgeous.

Just delivered to my house!

What's with the screen brightness thing? Even on the darkest setting the 6 is totally visible lol, I assumed I was supposed to crank it all the way down I guess. Doesn't seem like much of a difference between lowest and highest

The screen brightness thing is weird. It asks you to set it til the 6 is barely visible, which by default is VERY visible. And if you leave it like that or turn it up higher, the game is still dark.

I turned it all the way up and it's fine to me.

Yeah I just played through the prologue and it was way too dark. Just upped to max brightness, will see how it compares.

I imagine whatever updates they made helped make a better first impression, but I didn't mind the QTEs in the prologue. Dare I call them: fun??? (Granted, I have no affinity for RE so that probably helps)

Question, fam. Would I enjoy this game? I didn't like RE5 - I stopped at the last chapter because of that fucking awful cover system - and haven't really played any game in the series since then. I've heard this game is all over the fucking place, too, and not just in terms of story, which was always bad with these games.

Also, does the PC version have everything these versions presently do? I don't really play many games on console anymore, and I forget if I read that this version has some updates that the original versions did not.

RE6 is fun, but it takes the same gameplay loop as RE5 to it's logical extreme where you shoot to stun and use melee to finish. Game is way more dynamic and fast. Both games don't really need you to use cover, although it's useful in 6 to recover stamina, basically working as a 2 second breather.

And yes, everything in this version and more is available in the PC version + mods.

Keep in mind, if you ever come to dislike the QTEs you can partially disable them in the menu.

Hoping they patch it for brightness, which seems to be the biggest issue.

I still think that an improved port of the Mercenaries 3D for the current consoles and PC would be great.

I would kill for a stand-alone mercenaries game. Mercenaries 3D wasn't bad but I think it was made for the wrong platform. The gameplay itself felt like a weaker version of RE5.

Quick question here guys. Anyone know how to unlock Carla for Mercs in this version? I've unlocked all the other characters and their costumes, but she hasn't unlocked for me yet. Did they change how unlocking her works in the PS4 version? I haven't figured out how to unlock the RE.Net costumes either, so maybe that's what I need to do?

Getting this today, I love RE1-4, 5 is.... OK, haven't played 6 or the REv games. 6 certainly seems interesting with the different maneuvers you can pull off.

Clear Ada campaign?

My TV is perfectly calibrated for games and movies using the PS4 this is the only media I have had an issue with (rgb is set to auto on TV and PS4 as I play blu ray movies/TV shows on the PS4 as well as games.

The opening chapter on Leons is far, far too dark even with brightness set to max. It makes the calibration screen and the visable 6 look even more of a joke as according to that I'd have to set the brightness to 0 to make the 6 look barely visable. Certainly didn't have these issues last gen on this game and it does hamper the enjoyment somewhat when you can't play without the room been in darkness (slight exaggeration, but not by much).

I remember playing the demo for this back in the day, but can't remember if I even enjoyed it or not. Wondering if I should just dive in...

Ahh I knew I wasn't making shit up. She used to be locked.
She's already unlocked in this version though.

Yeah that got changed in one of the first patches for the original game :).

So have the vast majority of users not got the darkness issue? (I imagine it's mostly prevent in David Beckham's, I mean Leon's campaign).

Feels so good at 60fps, much faster. Love the shit out of this gameplay, killed everyone in the first level. Got A rank.

I like that everything is unlocked from the start, except for the extra characters. Have to relearn the mechanics and shoot the shit out of everything in mercs.

OK, so I've now finished all 4 campaigns, and still no Carla or RE.Net costumes. Capcom must have changed how you unlock this stuff in this version. If anyone has unlocked Carla or the RE.Net costumes in the PS4 (or Xbox 1) version, please tell me how you did so. I'd really appreciate it.

Just finished my Leon professional run in about 5 hours. I've got to say the game has either been made a lot easier or I'm just better at it since playing in 2012. Doubt it though. The final boss fights went down a lot easier and faster than I remember. I remember on my first playthrough remembering them eating bullets like freaking pez but this time around they went down so easily.A lot of the QTE's have also been made a lot easier such as the climbing one.

Am I just imagining things? Honestly, professional wasn't that difficult. Died a fair few times but never got "stuck." Didn't die on the boss battles either.

I think they slightly nerfed the bosses in a post-release patch, and that probably carried over to this version.

So I...uh...I'm actually enjoying RE6 a lot this time around. I may have to take back all the mean things I've said about it over the years. I'm still really bad at it though. My favorite is running up to do a sliding attack and end up spinning around the wrong way and then getting up to try and melee and whiffing it and then just running away because I'm getting machine gunned in the face.

...but then when I pull off the cool moves tho.

I'm also doing Dusk Golem's campaign order this time around instead of just going through each campaign straight which could be cool.

There are a lot of artistic things I didn't appreciate last time I played this too. The China setting looks pretty great actually and a lot of the enemies have cool designs. Speaking of which, I haven't even beaten Chris's first chapter yet and I've already encountered like 5 unique enemy types. My fav being the scorpion/spider people who cling to the ceiling. I guess when I played it last time me and my friend were too busy ragging on the stuff we didn't like that I never stopped to appreciate the stuff it actually does well.

One thing that not many people may notice is that the slide can be used to stun enemies as well. Can be pretty useful to set up a coup de grace.

When is it safe to End game session?

When I continued the campaign tonight it wasn't at the last checkpoint I got to which was exiting the first building in Leon 1.

Checkpoints don't trigger the game to save. Anytime after the game says "Saving" is safe to quit. This usually happens after load screens.

Crappy video of me countering my way through Mining the Depths on standard Mercenaries mode (PC version):

This is correct. Although if I'm not mistaken the game will also save after a game over. But in that case it will only be saving stats and such, not your position. So it's best to wait till after you've gone through a loading screen and reached a new area.

Forced camera moments are worse than forced walking sections. Especially when the game keeps moving and you're still being attacked while the camera is focused on some door/switch/downed parter or some shit.

Forced camera is RE6's worst sin. Worse than vehicle sections even.

Mmmm no. They don't happen enough or take as much time as the vehicle sections do.
Then again, the only vehicle section that I really hate is the snowmobile section.

I don't get why this game was hated back on PS3/360. I'm playing it for the first time on Xbox One and it's awesome.

Some spotty scenario design and everyone not knowing how to play

While some of the design is still questionable in spots, the mechanics being better documented means that players are more equipped to make their own fun during various encounters

It's ironic that a game that is 25+ hours long doesn't have a tutorial. I think people would have rated better if they showed you more moves than aiming, quick shot and using health tablets. That's pretty much all the game teaches you. There's so much more to the game.

The battle outside the church in Leon 2 is still a pain in the ass.

OK it wasn't so bad when I just started running around avoiding every tough enemy.

One thing I really dislike are the scripted zombies in the early Leon's chapters. They just don't react to bullets like they normally would.

Definitely. A shame they didn't take this opportunity to add one now.

I'm not sure if I have the brightness set up right. I always see the "6" despite every other game looking perfect with my current calibration. What brightness level do you have RE6 on settings from 1-40? (PS4 version)
