Resident Evil 6 for PS4 & XB1 |OT| Was it always this awesome?

Where is the chapter order?

I'll just quote the post here:

Since some might play this game for the first time:
I would recommend to play the game in chronological order instead of the whole campaigns individually.
It really helps to improve the pacing in my opinion. And it's nice to play towards the ending switching between multiple sides, especially when campaigns overlap.
Unfortunately the game doesn't offer a way to play in order by itself (unless the re-release patched that in?). So you have to quit after levels and manually switch.

The recommended order is (thanks to Dusk Golem and Charlouie Jonesman)
Prelude Chapter
Chris Chapter 1
Chris Chapter 2
Jake Chapter 1
Jake Chapter 2
Leon Chapter 1
Leon Chapter 2
Leon Chapter 3
Jake Chapter 3
Chris Chapter 3
Jake Chapter 4
Leon Chapter 4
Chris Chapter 4
Jake Chapter 5
Chris Chapter 5
Leon Chapter 5
Ada's Campaign

edit: Or alternatively start with Leon 1-3
it's not perfect, since Chris 1 is actually later in the game but you can't play 2 before 1.

Thanks. I'm only on 50 posts per page and didn't think to look at page 2.

I've already done Leon 1 and 2 but I think I'll follow the order going forward.

It seems like a big benefit to playing like this is that you get better context on all the crossover scenes. Early in Chris Chapter 2, you meet Jake and Sherry, and then an hour of gameplay later, you're playing as Jake and Sherry and see the crossover scene again from their side. It's a nice change from the original play order.

Played through all of Chris' campaign with The Xtortionist last night. Good times! Game looks gorgeous at 1080p 60 fps, and I didn't have to adjust the brightness — the default of 35 looks perfect on my set, just like the marketing materials. As for the game itself, I'm reminded how Chris' campaign has such staggering variety in terms of enemies. Especially like the j'avo that grow spider legs and scamper all over the place!

So I just got this and honestly had never played it on last gen so would a more experienced gaffer be willing to CO-op the campaign with me? I'm on PS4 and idk if anyone on my friends list playing this.

I'm really rusty with this game, having yet to break C on Mercs with Leon. Sliding w/remote bombs, 20-50 combo streaks, plenty of kill moves...I just can't seem to get the flow down with the maps like I remember, and never had much issue with jumping back into RE4 or 5s.

Just started the campaign though, and No Hope Left difficulty is something. Enemies are a shy too robust, but that's factory standard difficulty spike so it's expected.

I love CV, but it doesn't seem to be a popular one. I guess people were tired of the old RE formula by then?

Step back in gameplay from Nemesis. Another mansion that lacked the atmosphere and design of the previous one and the RPD. Poor puzzle design. Unforgiving resource flow that could be a game breaker to some (Airplane battle). Beginning of the game is ridiculously difficult on the surface. First of the games to willingly throw itself into the superhuman and cheese aspects that now define the modern titles. Alexia ended up being quite 'video-gamey' with the pyro abilities and quick breakdown. Narrative felt like it was a watered down version of something with more potential (which I believe has been proven since then).

And yeah, it felt like at that point the classic design was something they didn't know what to do with and were just running the same wheel. 100% static angles coupled with keeping movesets and combat options the same or even retrograded was something that seemed to be limiting what they can do while feeling outdated with what other games were beginning to do. Just look at Dino Crisis 2 before then and what a jump that was. That's why, while REmake2 will likely keep to the traditional design, any new iterations to the series that aim there should be given another chance to have a hybrid system like that was originally intended with RE4 and has been done with some titles that have taken inspiration from RE.

I'm struggling a lot in Mercs, too. I just never feel in control like I did in RE4 Mercs.

Maybe, in my case, it could just be that the first map on the list doesn't have the best flow and I need to memorize and better position myself to the time extensions.

So far it's been:

  • Stagger/counter reg. zombies using handgun and slides.
  • Increase sliding staggers when SPD zombies appear
  • Quickshot C-Cerberus
  • Unload on tanks on firemen
  • Head shotty BSAA zombies
  • Staggers/pistol on acid/fast zombies
  • Red barrel and CDG the bloater/tank thing
  • Use remote bombs on large groups of the licker looking things

And then when the mixed wave after that comes in the timer is usually going to bed. I might need to find a way to better stagger and context kill the firemen/BSAA, but every attempt to do so results in massive swarming and time wasted.

After I do some campaign I'll look into other maps and begin purchasing some skills, though it feels like I'm coming up short in the fundamentals rather than in need of some buffs.

I'm probably the odd one, but I prefer to play everything from one campaign before going to the other. The feeling of "oh so that's what happend to them" and "that explains why they here" and so on is bigger for me than playing it in chronological order.

I've already played through the campaign on the 360, so I also tried it in chronological order on the PS4. I can see where people say that it keeps the plot consecutive on the events that unfold in different perspectives, but it's kinda jarring at the same time because each duo's mission is so different from one another, especially ones littered with QTEs and driving segments.

I have a soft spot for this game though, and the option to select which sublevel within each mission you wish to start at is a Godsend! I don't remember that feature being in the last gen version.

One glaring issue that I have with the game is when it goes into a real-time cutscene that takes away the controls while there are enemies still nearby. The very second gameplay resumes, I'll have a zombie or J'avo lunging at my neck with no time to react with a melee attack or quickshot. Prime example is the church courtyard while fighting off the horde. It's straight up bullshit. Has anyone else experienced this?

It would have been nice, as they 'advertise' the manual, if Capcom did a minor update/variation of it for the PS4/XBO. Trying to reference back on player and official tips when the L2 and R2 controls are, iirc, swapped with L1/R1 from the PS3 version.

Nvm, they have it in a different section than the link given under the Warranty Limitation. Didn't realize the touch pad did the options/skip cutscenes.

Is there any way to make sure both players get trophies in local co-op? It only works for player one (the person who loads the game) as far as I can see.

Nice to know you didn't have to mess around with the brightness.
Was the 6 visible at 35?
My setting are 13, not that it makes much difference between 13 -35 tbh in my screen.
But the 6 is always visible no matter what option I pick.

The game looks gorgeous !

rev 2 and orgins collection are 30

I still think there's a high chance that RE5 and RE4 are 60 FPS as well.
Origins collection I think was a odd time, since in the case of those games let's be fair the 60FPS doesn't add that much, and I played both on PC. For Rev 2 that whole game was on the lower budget side so it was a matter of getting things working over anything else.

God damn Jake chapter 2 was bad. Like worse than I remembered. And I still haven't gotten the hang of how I should be engaging enemies. Like I try to do the good ol stun/melee combo but that usually isn't great crowd control and I end up eating a bunch of damage from the other enemies around me. My timing for counters sucks too. I might just mess around with Mercs for a bit and see if anything clicks.

Chapter ranking thus far this time around:
Chris 1
Jake 1
Chris 2
Leon 1
Jake 2

rev 2 and orgins collection are 30

Rev 2 is 60fps on PS4

Leon 1 has that slooooooow ass start with horrible forced walking segments, but the stuff in the subway is pretty fun.

Jake 2 is just non stop gimmick bullshit with the horrible snow map and then all that stealth, QTE, vehicle stuff.

Fuuuuuck I forgot that checkpoints aren't actually save points and just lost half an hour of progress.

Rev 2 is definitely 60 fps on current gen
Oh you're right. Google's top result was lowest frames. I remember now that when I first got my ps4 I set out to play all the 60fps games including rev 2.

The "6" is extremely visible, but it was visible no matter what, so I just stuck with the default 35 for brightness, and it looks great.

oh god i totally forgot jake 2 also had the stealth part and the qte-fest ending 'boss'
for some reason i had that segmented as part of ch3

yeah that definitely seals the deal then, jake 2 is the worstttt

I think my worst RE6 moments are both Leon and Chris's end bosses (ran out of ammo trying to fight them the first time back in the vanilla release) and then, yeah, Jake's second wintery chapters.

Urgh.

Jake 2 is easily the worst chapter in the game and I like Jake's campaign.
Yeah, Jake's Campaign is my second favorite overall, but oh man, going from Jake 2, which is by far the worst, to Jake 3, which is actually really great (probably my favorite) is just crazy. The game is quite a rollercoaster when it comes to the level design, but that kind of contrast is on a whole different level. LOL.

I don't know why people have so many problems with Jake 2. It's an easy mission.

You either run up the ice slide without engaging enemies or take them all out with a magnum or sniper rifle and in the stealth section, the enemies have a very clear field of vision and can be 1-shotted from behind easily.

The snow ride section also isn't difficult either. Just keep your speed up and keep a reasonable distance away from the avalanche. You can even drive pretty slow during the falling icebergs part and carefully navigate through it if need be.

It's not difficult, it's just tedious and boring to get through.

jake 2 vs leon 1 is a pretty stiff competition imo

jake 2 is awful throughout but leon 1 has 1-1 which is extraordinarily bad

I will agree to this I am not a big fan of Leon's Chapter 1 either. Leon 1 and Jake 2 are the two chapters I hate the most in the game. Much of why I prefer chris campaign. Sure it's a shooter, but it knows what it is.

I'm starting to realize that starting out on No Hope Left mode was a stupid decision. Health is too sparse (maybe a green/red herb or spray per chapter) and the post-down-state consequences are far too harsh.

I'm also starting to be reminded why I hated the campaign level and behavior design the first time around. Still, I'm loving the solid 60fps.

Pro and No Hope while possible to beat on a first playthrough, really are made with a second playthrough in mind with some skills.

Yeah, I really overestimated how much I remembered from the initial release of the game. The battle against the Ogroman with Jake and Sherry on one bar of health is...quite a task thus far.

It's no use, I can't get into this game...

Just replayed RE5 last week on PC and looking back I can't believe that I hated it so much when it was first released. I mean, I REALLY hated it. But man, that game is awesome.

RE6 on the other hand. I just can't believe how bad the game is. I started playing with Leon, couldn't get into it. Now thanks to this thread and the recommended order I started with Chris instead but man, that shit is even worse than Leon's campaign.

What use are the (pretty interesting) controls when all I do is run and gun in narrow walkways? What the fuck was Capcom thinking? And then that whole things feels like a friggin C-version of Call of Duty.

I tried, I really did, but I this rate I don't see myself ever finishing that shit. Barely made it through Chapter 1 of Chris now. What a clusterfuck this game turned out to be...

Playing two rounds of mercenaries just reaffirmed how great this game is to me. These controls are just amazing, almost like fighting game levels of depth.

Also good to know the multiplayer matchmaking systems are still a clusterfuck. But still totally unusable.

I hate when it gives you an R2 command to stomp and then you press R2 and the attack just whiffs.

Those are the things that stick out once again. You have this great combat system, but the level and encounter design actively discourages the use of it.

And then on the other end, there's a lack of polish with the mechanics that can lead to some stupid instances. Having to wait .75-1.2 seconds after moving to be able to successfully melee as prompted shouldn't be the case. It's up there with RE5's quirk of enemies pausing a similar if not near 2 seconds to attack as if they are hitting some weird wall.

Edit: Anyone with some great Merc references I can look into? I found Berserker's guide at IGN, but I didn't know if anyone had other good sources in written or video format.

Didn't get a trophy for beating Leon's chapter 2 campaign. I joined a random co op game and missed the first section. Finished it all with that person then did the section I missed in single player and no trophy popped up. I guess it was like this on the 360/PS3 version...can't remember.

Chris' last boss took a while on my professional run but Leon's went down a lot faster than I remember.

I just search "resident evil 6 mercenaries [stage name] solo" and filter by uploaded this year so I get the latest strats. Like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVd7JMeKQ78

this sounds exactly how I remember RE6. kinda glad I didn't impulse buy when I was near a Gamestop yesterday.

I am one of the fools who enjoyed this game back on the 360. Downloading it now on PS4 (along with RE:Remake, RE:Zero and Revelation 2) going to have a nice few days of Resident Evil.

Wow Mercs No Mercy is fun as hell. The real RE6 starts here. Its a lot easier than regular mode though, since you can basically get absurd combos and I-frames out the ass. Got some S and A ranks with Leon no problem. Hopefully my skillz here translate back over to the campaign.
