RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard | OT | BIOHAZARD 7 resident evil

I've heard more music than that. The boss encounters so far have had good music.

It's more on the atmospheric/ambient end of the spectrum for sure, but still solid.

There's more music towards the end of the game, but it's not great. The menu theme and save theme are godly though and most of the ambient and boss stuff are good too.

Sign me up for this game basically had no music. When there was it was pretty forgetful since it was primarily atmospheric. Which works for this game. But I definitely would have preferred some more "catchy" tracks like older RE games.

Damn, that jumpscare when
"Spider"-Marguerite attacks you through the window when you walk up the stairs
got me really hard. I'm usually not a big fan of jumpscares but I think this game does it right by not making excessive use of them (got maybe three until now).

I'm now at the part
where you have to repair the elevator on the ship. I'm playing Mia.
(at a bit more than 7 hours in). I guess I'm close to the end now.
Ethan dropping dead and the location change caught me by surprise. The last videotape was good but otherwise the ship section so far is a bit of a drop in quality compared to the rest of the game.

Sadly the quality goes down further. I thought the
ship
was pretty alright overall. I liked the more open level design quite a bit, but fighting the same enemies over and over made it feel more uninspired, and though the atmosphere was good, it lacked the character of the previous areas. The next area is kinda ass.

I guess I worded it a little incorrectly in my enthusiasm to do that write up. Atmpspheric sound design, minimalism and creating tension when it's needed. Loved the closing song too. So yeah maybe 'sound design' not 'soundtrack' but what music there was I loved it.

The ship
is still good overall but I probably would enjoy it more if
it wouldn't feel so similiar to RE:Revelations.

Just finished it, and it was awesome. Way better than I thought it would be.
And I finished it in true Resident Evil fashion, with pretty much my entire arsenal untouched (because I might need it later on) lol. When will I learn.

Yup, felt the same. The last area is all squandered potential to me.

So you shouldn't really be fighting most enemies in this game, since they either take all your ammo to just temp stun them or kill anything? Shooting anything seems like a waste so far

Pretty much, I started on Normal for my first go and ended up using A LOT of ammo on those fucking molded, so then I learned to just run away from them. I also enjoy the panic-induced nature of trying to solve puzzles, explore, and make progress in general while trying to stay lowkey and losing them, but knowing they're still around. Some sections have been batshit insanely scary because of this.

They give you enough ammo to pretty much kill anything. But sometimes it's best to avoid them, especially early on.

The molded only eat ammo if you aren't hitting them in the head. But hitting them in the head is a fucking chore until the shotgun. Although block > knife actually works, and saves a ton of ammo. It just depends on how much you really want to use a restoration item after every few encounters. You can also duck under their elongating thrust attack as long as they aren't on a lower plane than you. In the areas that you don't have to constantly backtrack in, or there's only one at a time (and you actually have ROOM to get beyond them), running is usually optimal.

I killed everything. There's one part early on that is a little rough but I managed, madhouse probably makes it more important but the game gives you more than enough ammo to handle everything otherwise.

Best scares in the game imo

Mia coming out of the little area to screw you (both times)

the Evelyn doll on the chair towards the very end

The moulded that appears just outside the detention room

I TOLD YOU TO STAY OUT

Just finished it. What an amazing game. I have to finish it again but overall I think I'd rate it 9/10. loved the return to classic exploation of the enviroments most. Felt so great

Shooting to me some time to get into but I think it is intended as otherwise the game would probably be too easy. Also, the story took some time to get interesting but I'm ok with how it played out.

Can't believe that I'm satisfied with every revamp Capcom has done to my favourite series. Hope this sells real well and they get the series back on track.

I can't get past the
Jack fight with the chainsaw
.

I like to think my issue is that I'm too impatient, but it's likely I just suck.

Please tell me there's an easy way to do this?

*nods
Totally agree, 100 fucking percent.

I stood in the main room just looking for ages, amazed i'm in a spooky real mansion... Then i realized i'm playing Resident Evil in VR and hide in a corner too terrified to move. lol
The experiences of those playing the RE7 on the PSVR are absolutely fascinating and incredible to me. I've not been into gaming for years but I can imagine how utter incredible games could be If I was "in" the games. I would love to play my favourite games like Goldeneye and the Halo games in VR and be in those games.

Kind of on topic, horror is my favourite genre and VR and horror games like RE7 would be like I'd travelled to the future almost.

Started Madhouse with the Circular Saw, the X-Ray Goggles and the Albert 01-R. Mia wasn't too easy already (had to finish her off with the handaxe), but Jack is even worse (insanely fast). Holy shit this will be interesting.

I was not expecting Resident Evil to
rip off Silent Hill
...Wow
Don't get me wrong, it good but I'm at the
ship and so far its Chainsaw massacre/Evil Dead/Silent Hill.
I'm waiting for the connection, RE has been crazy but always been a virus to explain everything.
This is a little harder to digest in Resident Evil's world, anyway gotten keep playing as I want the Bakers explanation now lol.

It's not ripping off Silent Hill. It's ripping of Alone in the Dark (the DOS game) and Resident Evil 1, but whatever. Just keep on playing because
there totally is a Virus to explain everything... Actually there were already a couple of clues hinting at a virus.

So I just got to
the part where lucas makes you get rid of your items
and I never got a
grenade launcher

Can I go back for it? Should I? Also how much do I have left to complete?

Ok, but ya gotta admit
the Girl is from Silent Hill, actually Silent Hill the movie with all the black shit

Are you right before the keycode door? You should be able to go back. In the main house, it's in the room behind a crow door. It's not necessary on Normal playthrough, but more guns is always better.

And where you currently are, you're nearing a point of no return. Might want to get all the ammo/items/etc. from the previous areas you can.

Half way through madhouse. It started off a lot worse than it became. Mia was hell for me, Jack a pain. But once I settled in and started to manage stuff well Its classic RE. I was hoping for a lot more remixing. There are a few awesome, oh what thats different moments, but so far its just a few random items in different spots. Almost none of the main stuff has changed, the structure is basically the same. A few more enemies here and there. I was hoping for a really big mix up, key items in different locations and stuff. Maybe do parts in a different order.

Still its a ton of fun. Definitely the more traditional RE approach. I am playing it like a new file, not using any of the unlockable stuff.

It's like a new fuckin game, props to Capcom for this (at least considering that other developers don't even attempt shit like this anymore)

And yes, chase sequence are 10 times worse

Or the Ring or Alma from the F.E.A.R. games or...
But yeah they definitely borrowed 'the spooky girl with black hair' idea from modern horror stories.

Ergh, I can barely even get into the start of this, I'm at the edge of the mansion but I really just don't want to go inside. Feeling far too fucking tense like I'll explode the second something actually happens.

Does it ramp up pretty quick/hit you with any particularly bad scares at the beginning?

First person is fucking me up, never had a problem with the horror elements of RE before because they were always 3rd person or fixed camera so at least nothing will come directly at your face.

If you have more ammo than health, shoot (aim for the head). If you have more health than ammo, dodge past (even if it means taking a blow, guarding mitigates damage a lot).

Standard RE, really.

You totally forgot F.E.A.R. (or just haven't played it).

No, that's from F.E.A.R., which came out before the Silent Hill movie, and it was a copy of the already then cliche Ringu ghost girl. The game was fucking phenomenal though at release anyway.

That's not even the mansion. It's more like the tutorial house ;). Some mild tutorial spoilers ahead.
There is nothing in the house that can hurt or scare you, just some spooky noises that's all. There is a video you'll have to watch/play and people will die at the end there. All scripted, nothing you can do. After that you're safe for another 10-15 minutes (there is just one jump scare in the water) and then the game starts, right after exiting the cellar. You'll know when.

Very milde game spoilers:
After that the game is more like the texas chainsaw massacre for the next 2 hours or so, a lot of blood, a lot of gore but not that spooky. This will change of course with every part/level of the game. There is even a Jigsaw like part... a few hours later.

I love how the game still has some of "Yeah, fuck it right up the ass!!" Capcom cheese lines. Was in the old house
in the tunnel when you see that thing crawling and Ethan goes "What the fuck? That's special"
lol

Never change Capcom. :p

My favourite line was:
"Who builds this shit?" Right after solving the first shadow puzzle
And a couple of hours later you even find the answer in the form of a receipt.
It made me laugh.

Do you play it standing up too?

Yes, and no.
I pull out the computer chair after awhile when i'm tired of just standing on the spot but it's better suited standing for immersion. Absolutely love it.

And, I had the view turning to 7-8
Anything lower seems to give me abit of motion sickness.
But faster helped alot.

Walking up to the Mansion at the start of the game was so awesome, lol

I am on track for my first playthrough of RE7 to take as long as my first playthrough of Yakuza 0.

... I did not approach these games with the same attitude. :D
