Resident Evil 7 - Item Boxes, Shotgun, & Telephone Mysterious Caller Video

At this point I feel the Mysterious Caller will be another nod to the series prior. People joked about it being ada awhile back. But at this point it wouldn't even surprise me.
Nice to see the shotgun and item box, now we just gotta see Ethan blow the face off of something.
Meeting one of the classic characters halfway through the game or so would be pretty awesome.

I would be very happy to see Leon kick down a door to save the main character right before you were going to get killed or something. (even if you get separated from him soon after).

Looks like we'll be getting ten clips, probably over the course of the month. Maybe we'll get a new trailer or an RE2 teaser for Halloween.

VII has come to?

Anyone else wanna bet the phone call might act as the new "save".

Also, jeez the left hand looks bad in the shotgun clip. Almost looks like a mannequin/prosthetic.

The flip knife has a 'close' icon instead of ammo and it looks like the shotgun might be customisable.

I feel like they knew we needed to see some of this. Count me in as hyped.

I'm pretty sure they heard the misgivings.

Selling RE7 on atmosphere and trendy jump scare/isolation/helplessness seems to have worked out for them, but they sorely neglected the gun porn aspect and the fact that RE guys kick ass, unlike many horror game protagonists.

Well the point they've been trying to make is that Ethan isn't some badass like RE1-6 characters. He's just some average guy with no training getting into a terrible situation.

Aside from a little safety training from Chris, you could say the same about Claire in RE2. And RECV's Steve was just some random teenager.

RE protagonists just seem to be naturally comfortable with combat and military hardware, regardless of background or experience, and I'm hoping this remains the case.

Neglecting the action aspect was necessary though in order to sell the idea that the franchise is returning to horror. Whip out guns too soon and it risks betraying that intent in regards to the audiences they're trying to court. Overall I think they've handled the marketing about as well as they could. Maybe they should have showed proper gameplay before they showed the Lantern trailer, as that got a bit more disappointed response from what I saw.

Hum the first video was vol 1 and the second was vol 2, will we find out what is covered on that resident evil when all the 10 volumes/videos come out?

Slowly salvaging this terrible marketing. Still they refuse to show an actual slice of the core gameplay loop which is what people need to see to get excited. So many of my friends have no clue what this game is. That one shotgun clip is more exciting than the entire demo.

The X in the teaser image is legitimately the X from the Resident Evil: Code Veronica X logo, it even does that weird thing where one line is thicker than the other. Now the question would be for what that exactly means.

Agreed. This vid should be the first they showed.
They had my absolute spite. Now they have my attention.

I want this game to be good so badly. Still waiting for...actual gameplay though.

Stupid of me to even care at this point but all I can think when they pump a shotgun like that is "that's just gonna make you eject a shell".

I'm practically counting on it, by this point.

Even though the new guy will likely earn his designated "RE Badass" stripes over the course of this game, it's probably safe to presume he likely already knows how to use a gun. Especially if what Dusk's compiled data and speculation is true, and it's likely that this guy was already at least some type of
cop
.

That item box and shotgun clip makes me happy. Finally something that actually looks like Resident Evil. Now all I need to see is a typewriter and/or some combat!

Not entirely sure what they're thinking with this marketing, to be honest. I mean, keeping things mysterious is one thing. That's cool. But the game is only a few months away and they've yet to show anything substantial. I legitimately forgot it was coming until a few days ago. Not exactly a great way to build and maintain hype. :/

Resident Evil 7 doesn't really need a ton of marketing right now. It's a big enough game that they could wait until December to show something significant and it won't hurt sales. PSX will probably feature a meaty demo especially with tie-in to PSVR. Honestly I don't really want to know anything else because I'm sold already, but casual fans probably need more. It also doesn't hurt that it is the only MAJOR release in January.

Still a little weary of what the game will prove to be, but damn I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little hype after that shotgun vid. I agree with the posters above, that shotgun clip was more exciting than any trailer or demo they have come out with so far.

The only decision I have to make involving this game is whether or not I (attempt to) play this game in PSVR. I get scared by games easily and don't honestly know if I can handle getting familied in VR.

Same position to be honest. Only solution I could find is to avoid playing with headphones, it makes it less scarier XD
I'ts pretty much how I survived Outlast.

Is it just the quality of the footage released so far or does this game look rough as hell? Like in a low res, low poly kinda way.

60fps target means that there are compromises. But it already looks better than any 30fps game this gen except maybe P.T (but that wasn't a full game).

60fps was such a great design decision by Capcom, I applaud them.

You're right. A numbered RE doesn't need a lot of publicity, it's a monster IP and will sell regardless. They're going for tease and so far it seems to be working. Although Capcom is probably counting on strong reviews (which I'm sure it will get) to finish the job.

I'm going to bail on media myself now I think. Normally I'd have backed out long ago as I did on 5 and 6 (I went into both of those games knowing almost nothing and it was glorious), but I until recently I needed convincing this was a game I could be excited about. I'm excited.

We already knew about limited inventory by playing the tech demo. It's nice to see that there is a hint that we may need to collect gun parts in order to use them or upgrade them like in the old games.
